In my world record, I knew that my stage 1 was a bit slow, but that wasn't a big deal to me
And then, I watched Muten's run and realized "OH CRAP MY STAGE 1 SUCKED"
Heck, I looked at Beard's run, and even with an extra boomerang throw, his split is around .5 seconds faster than mine (adjusted to when I split by the way)
So does anyone have tips on how to improve it? I tried doing stage 1 IL runs at I seemingly can't get that much faster.
I would like to point out that I don't believe this is an emulator issue, and Beard's and Muten's runs are legitimate, so I was wondering how to improve it.
I started to TAS level one this weekend to see what exactly causes the most lag, hat boomeranging, sprite overload, coin grabs. I am interested to see which enemies are best skipped, and which should be killed at close or long range. FWIW it is my first time TASing something, so I am not really expecting stellar results too quickly. Initial analysis are pointing to close up kills unless there is more than 3 enemy on the screen, as close up kills lessen the chance of having to jump and boomeranging the hat. I doubt I am breaking any ground here, but figured I would share what I came across.
I think ultimately being able to figure out when to toss your hat at which group of enemies to get multiple kills with less hat throws will be a time saver. I feel like the hat does contribute significantly to the lag and the less you throw it for the most enemies killed the better.

The time muten_pizza achieved is not legitimate due to an inaccurate emulator.
