1.1 Introduction

Slides are a high level strat in The Count Lucanor, which work due to some oddities in the way collision hitboxes behave in game when walking into them.

They are also technically possible in Yuppie psycho however using them there is overall slower there as sprinting is still faster.

Slides are quite risky so unless you are going for a top time, you might want to avoid trying to implement them, as messing up a slide can easily cost you multiple seconds, and each only save a fraction of a second.

This guide will not cover every possible slide the game has to offer as that would just end up being ridiculously long. Instead I want to focus on only the most relevant ones.

									1.2 How to Slide

To slide you simply have to walk into a collision box of any slideable object.

Pressing any other direction other than the one towards the hitbox will slow you down as though you would regularly walk into a wall, so do not move diagonally.

1.2.1 What makes an object slidable

Most Foreground objects which use a collision box that isn’t square as well as certain background elements which will be specifically mentioned later under the advanced slides section are slideable.

Warning!: Certain elements (especially the well in the garden, most of the red spikes and trees) might seem like they are slideable but might not be as they do not have an individual collision box but share theirs with the world map.

							1.3 Learning how to slide

The best place to familiarize yourself with slides is the mountain segment during the intro as a lot of the elements at the bottom of the screen have random spots where you can slide. The specific slides for this segment however will be covered under the advanced section as they are more on the challenging side. If you want to start implementing slides into your run I recommend you start with the slides in 1.4 Beginner slides and then work your way up to the rest.

1.4.1 Stair Slide

The one slide we knew about ever since we started running the game and by far the easiest one. During the speedrun, when going to the yellow rooms on the second floor you can use the stairs to save some extra time by performing a slide. For that just go to the second floor and then align yourself as shown in the picture, before starting to walk left. If you stand further down you will be pushed back down into the loading zone. Something we use when going back down.

Downstairs it doesn’t matter where you walk into the railing you will always move downwards.

1.4.2 Red Spikes Slide

Another easier slide in the second half of the game. You want to line yourself up so that you are wholly to the left of the skeletons hand and then just hold up. Here is a reference image.

1.4.3 Patronio Slide

At the very end of the run. If you did the upwarp correctly you can just walk into patronio and you will be pushed to the side. This does not save any time but is just a swag strat.

1.4.4 The Rock at the fence

The last easy slide happens right after the third screen transition. What you want to do is walk straight up to the rock and then just walk into it once your center of mass is past the seam in the texture where the colors get darker.

1.5 Intermediate Slides / Rock Slides

1.5.1 Last day Room Slide 3

During the day. You can use the rock slide to skip the last turn before walking to the graveyard. As soon as more than one of your pixles is past the thicker line shown on the image above start holding up to just slide past the rock. Since you want to keep walking up later anyways you can keep holding up long past the slide. The setup for this trick however is not 100% certain. So rather move a bit further right before starting it. It will save less time that way, but will be way more consistent than trying to hit it pixel perfect.

During the night you can just walk into the side marked by the thin red line and be pushed down. Ideally before the cutscene. If the cutscene starts during your slide you will not be able to end it.

(both work during day and night but are only mentioned for when they are relevant)

1.5.2 Last day Room Slide 2

Just before 1.5.1 you can slide along this rock starting from where it becomes darker. Be careful not to slide too far as otherwise you will be stuck between two rocks and not move at all. If that happens just hold right and walk along the other rocks hitbox. Interestingly with no speed increase.

1.5.3 Last day Room Slide 1

Once you are mostly past the dark spot shown here you can start walking up into the wall until you move past the next dark spot. Doing it too long will once again make you run into a wall.

Once you are at least as far left as shown on the picture hold down until hans has completely moved past the rocks.

							1.7 Perfect Slides

Almost any not straight edged object in the game can be used to slide, however in most of those cases it might only save 1 or 2 frames since the area you could slide along is so small, therefore it is typically not worth it to go for them in a lot of places.

However there are two notable exceptions:
