Its funny to me how people refer to threads like this as “discount Lor” even though Lor technically stole the “Don’t Click Me” thread idea from this one 2 months prior to theirs

Most people don’t split that accurately at all, at least not consistently and not on any perfect frames. Splits are nothing more than a nice visual indicator of pace for you and your viewers. All accurate timings for runs that need them to very precise is done by frame counting the run after the fact. Obviously autosplitters are the exception because they are designed to be precise.

Obviously people aren’t inaccurate by multiple seconds in their splits (if they are they usually retime the run) so for most games being a few milliseconds or centiseconds off doesn’t usually matter unless the game is super competitive and exact timings are necessary for accurate placements on the LB.

@1UpsForLife I believe it's been that way since the last update to the Front Page too. It's literally unreadable when your theme is remotely light colored. I feel like it was reported back then too. It's pretty awful design when allowing for custom themes, at least a black outline around the text would go a long way in making it better.
Just to be safe, I probably wouldn’t submit a run on your Deep Sleep to see what would happen.
That’s is awful advice unless I’m misunderstanding your point. In the event that this occurs, usually the game is titled something different to indicate the difference. Like maybe a year is put in parenthesis or some other unique thing like a developer name.

You can still submit the run and game, just make sure to put in the description of the submission that it’s different than the game currently on the site and just shares a title.

You can also record XBox One gameplay by streaming to directly to Twitch using the Twitch app. This takes all the onus off of you and puts it on Twitch, so as long as you save your past broadcasts there, you can then highlight them to get videos of the runs.

Just an alternative to locally recording everything if you’re looking for a more “out of the box” solution to don runs without purchasing anything additional for your setup.

I swear to god I am so close to deleting my entire account from here and building a simple webpage to host my own profile with my PBs while integrating into the API to get the LBs for the games I run.

The extent to which Elo is ignoring every user on this site to push their own agenda, content and view for the site is just incredibly upsetting. This entire forum has spent the last 2 weeks begging for more transparency and literally any sign of life from Elo. Instead we get another update, silently released, that is more riddled with bugs than features and further ignores every request from the main user base on this site. If Elo truly reads these forums then that’s even worse because then it shows the extent to which they are actively trying to ignore threads like this and the others on this forum.

Right now it appears like Elo is more concerned with pushing their own content, agenda and view for the site rather than caring at all what the users are actually looking for. Nobody asked for the News and Blog post sections to be plastered on every page, there is literally no point. This site’s entire existence is around speedrunning communities and their individuality - nobody comes here to read opinion blogs.

At this point I’m convinced Elo is just going to continue to rebrand the site to whatever their vision of it is rather than what the users here want. I’d love to be proven wrong, but right now this is the impression being given off by Elo and it’s starting to go from upsetting to irritating.
in some games the mods wont allow twitch highlights
Can you provide an example LB that doesn’t accept videos highlighted on Twitch? I’ve never heard of that and I can’t imagine a reason why a highlight wouldn’t be allowed. I’d be very interested to learn more about their reasoning for not allowing any runs submitted with Twitch highlights.

XBox One and PS4/5 have a twitch app that allows direct streaming from the console if so desired. Its more accessible than purchasing an HDMI capture card and it doesn't require a PC strong enough to handle running something like OBS and streaming from there.

Yes, I would always recommend using OBS unless there is a very specific reason why it doesn't work.

No, that is not a good idea.

Past Broadcasts are deleted the moment you end them on Twitch. If you enable the setting to save all past broadcasts, they are still deleted, but after 14 days. Any run submitted with a broadcast will be auto-deleted after 14 days. You need to make a highlight of the run from the broadcast and submit that instead. It is also recommended that you only include the portion of the video that is relevant (so only include the run and any additional information required by the game's rules).

@Noambhm It is against site policy to share any websites or links for ROMs or anything like that. You will need to find any relevant emulation applications yourself.

Have you talked to the moderator and expressed your concerns to them? There might be a perfectly good explanation for the discrepancies, and I’m sure they would appreciate you discuss your concerns with them before reporting it to site staff.

You can only change it once every 60 days though, so if you've already changed it recently you'll just have to wait.

All times are the length of your run, how long you streamed for is irrelevant (although the video time should only include the run you're submitting so it should be close to the run time).

While I don't know what game you're talking about, I can only assume that by "Game Time" you mean "In Game Time"? IGT refers to the time the game provides at the completion of the run. This is usually used when the game itself provides a time for how long the run took - it'll usually show it at the end of the run or when the completion screen is shown. If you tell us what game you're trying to submit a run to, we can try to help you further. But ideally, and questions you have regarding submissions to an LB, you should post those in the forum for the game. The community for the game and the moderators of the LB in question can help you much better and more accurately than the users of this general forum can.

There are no timers that I’m aware of that run natively on a PS4. You’ll need to use something like LiveSplit on your computer or the stopwatch app on your phone to time the run. If you want to get a timer on the video, you’ll need to either capture the console with a capture card and use something like OBS to record the run, or you’ll need to edit a timer into the video after the fact.

This isn't even really an opinion, it's a factually incorrect statement. Splicing is 100% cheating when the rules say "single segment" for a run. There is no debate around that, it's cheating if you don't do the run in a single segment. @Quivico 's point is really good - what you're describing is a segmented run which is perfectly legal provided the rules allow for runs to be performed in such a way. But it's not really an opinion to say "breaking the rules isn't a problem" because, well, it definitely is a problem. Nothing stops you from doing segmented runs by the way, you just can't submit them to the same LBs as people who do runs in a single segment.

Here's the best analogy I can come up with (it's probably still pretty bad) for what you've described: You can't go to an academic setting and say "I don't deserve a failing grade because I submitted my assignment 5 days late. It's not cheating, I just didn't have time to do it in a single sitting like you asked me to." You're still gonna get a failing grade because you didn't follow the instructions laid out for you, you can't say that it's okay you took more time than you were allowed because it's your opinion that it's fine.

This question cannot really be answered (and it's been asked before I think).

You simply cannot accurately compare games across genres, or sometimes even within the same series, to accurately determine a "hardest" game - even if it is only opinion. "Hard to get WR" isn't a definable metric, because a game or run being "hard" also can't be defined. Every person will find something harder than someone else. Imagine a conversation like this:

Runner 1: "WR in Ocarina of Time Any% is the hardest speedrun" Runner 2: "It's not hard, I just got a new WR yesterday".

What has this discussion accomplished? It certainly doesn't answer the question of whether it's hard to get WR in OOT Any%, nor does it even measure how hard the run is. Maybe runner 1 found it so hard because they can't time inputs very good, but lots of other players can time their inputs very well. It's not even really opinion based since difficulty can come from a variety of things - ignorance on routing, ignorance on skill, lack of skill, lack of rhythm - the list is endless. Some of those things are correctable, some aren't. Sometimes a little practice changes how hard you view something.

At the end of the day, the hardest game/run will probably be in any genre of game that you don't like or aren't very good at. I'm awful at First Person Shooters so I'd say the hardest run is probably something within that genre. But that doesn't mean much because I could crush out a 10 hour run of an RPG where a lot of people might find that the hardest run because they can't focus that long. It's just way to open of a topic to find any consensus.

If you're talking about runs that are hard because of their current level of optimization, where WR might involve 1000s of grinded attempts, that's a different story and you could probably find a few of those types of runs, especially in shorter games/categories.
