duders719, those are questions better asked in the forum of the games in question.

This is a last resort thread for becoming moderator for a game when the mods go inactive for extended periods of time. Category requests and such can be asked in the game forms where moderators are more likely to see them and respond.

Hacking/modding a console to gain an advantage in speed is usually always banned. For what it's worth I don't think hacks for NES mini even exist.

And yes, the NES mini is slower than a regular NES console. Emulators that people are used to for a computer run at the same speed as an NES console so the NES mini is still slower. A real NES/regular emulators run a bit over 60FPS and the NES mini runs under 60FPS at like 59.98 or something.

There is no site wide rule for them, but for pretty much all of the NES/SNES games I know allow them because the carts allow for games to be played on real hardware. In the case of NES it's the same as if you had a regular NES cart of the game.

FDS is unfortunately a bigger beast. Flash carts load significantly faster than a regular FDS so it can provide problems if you have runners on both flash carts and real FDS discs. As an example, Zelda 2 knows load times (or a good approximation) for emu, FDS disc and flash cart and they have two columns for real time and loadless time to allow for better and fairer comparisons.

I'd say allow it for NES but maybe talk to the runners for FDS and see if they have an opinion or are maybe open to helping time out some load times if the game isn't too long.

You cannot upload files to this site. Preferred ways are to upload videos to sites like YouTube or Twitch. Then you post the link to your video in the "video link" field when submitting a run. Those sites have the video auto embedded into this site and they make it easy to watch and verify your run. There might be a couple other sites that get auto embedded but those are by far the most popular.

I've seen a few people on other games occasionally upload a video file to a site like Dropbox and submit that link, but that's less ideal and people tend to be advised against doing that with a run submission because I know personally I'd be sketch about downloading a file to verify it.

No need to do that, just pick one auto splitter for one game and ask on that game's forums.

If you're having issues with every auto splitter you're trying to use then maybe it's just a simple configuration or step you're missing. If one game helps you then it should (hopefully) start to work for every game you want to use auto splitters for.

I'd ask in the forums for the game, the mods and other runners can probably provide more help than anyone in these general forums.

Fox is pretty active on Twitter and ParadoxKarl was online only a couple days ago. I noticed you just created a forum post for the game as well. I recommend waiting a bit for the mods to come online and read that forum post as a super mod like Fox or Paradox can add other moderators if needed. You can also reach out to Fox on twitter to get a response as well if the forum post sits ignored for a while.

If you still get no answer or response after a while, then consider using this last resort thread https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7

Just make sure to read the OP to be certain you've gone through the proper channels to try and resolve the issue within the current moderation.

Yeah I agree that a time with no video is pointless. To a new runner, it's gonna lead to doubt and confusion (and possibly frustration if it's a long standing record and I can't view it).

The general feeling a lot of people have on this site is "No WR without proof" and I feel like by extension of that sentiment, a time should not be re-added if the person deletes it and has the video is removed. I can understand the point of "it was verified at one point" as a way to keep the mods honest and trusting, but that still seems like a really lame way of adding a time to a board since it'll have no information. While it might add accuracy in the wider scope of tracking WRs/PBs in a game, it only hinders the board by providing a (high level) run that isn't viewable. If a person removes their video and removes their time, adding it back with just a time and no video is pointless since it adds no value to the board. Obviously if they remove it all, they clearly don't care about holding WR or anything like that, so let them be and don't add the time they clearly don't care about back.
best to do if a runner ask for their run to be removed? IP ban em, not speedrunners in my mind. You should be honored to be spotlighted and for your progress, if not, either you are a cheater, or you aren't a speedrunner.
Nice low quality bait or just a sad attempt at trolling.

Yeah Nintendo nuked all the ROMs of their games on popular sites in the past few months.

There's a couple obscure (and safe) sites I've found that still host at least some of the ROMs, but obviously not gonna publically post them here for the clear legal reasons.

In short, a lot of them are still out there just harder to find now. I'm super glad I had the foresight to grab a few of the No Intro Sets before this happened.

You can try making a thread, but if the thread gets no response and the moderator remains inactive, you can request to become a moderator of the game here https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7

If a mod is inactive, has no social media links and isn't responding to requests like that, it's a pretty good case for becoming mod yourself. Just make sure to read the OP in that thread to make sure you and your situation meet the requirements.

MadnessHank, the only official messages in this thread come from Full Mods or Admins.

Take all other messages from regular users in regards to whether or not you will be added as a moderator with a grain of salt as they may or may not be true/accurate.

Request it just like a non-hack version: https://speedrun.com/requestgame

Just make sure you have a run if it completed before requesting it.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs7 years ago

Moderators aren't considered inactive until runs sit unverified for 2-3 weeks (although if they login once every 2 weeks just to verify an exception can be made because they are still inactive most of the time).

If your run is approaching that time of waiting, you can reach out to the mod(s) on social media or through the forums. Just don't harass them a lot or right after submitting a run, only if your run is in limbo for a while.

Finally, if you don't hear back from them and still don't get verified, you can post here http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7/170 to request to become moderator.

Get the Flute after the White Sword then up+a out of 5 to eliminate some up+a and travel time OpieOP

In seriousness though (although early flute would be interesting), an idea I had a while back when messing around with a similar route for Glitchless runs was to do 2 at some point after 3+4 and walk to the ladder and raft hearts. I think the routes I was toying with did 3,4,1 white sword, 5 or 2 the fit raft and ladder hearts before whistling to 4 to buy stuff then do 7.

Idk how that stacks up to what you're doing with south coast HP and stuff, but it's an idea. These were the two routes I brainstormed real quick a year ago for Glitchless https://pastebin.com/XS3Xmbs8

It basically followed the same restrictions as yours only I counted on forced bombs and drop table knowledge. So that brainstorming might not be super applicable here since bombs will be tighter in this, but it's something.

Yeah it's fine, it's pretty much the standard speedrunning layout.

By punch code, I mean the set of two nums (and maybe a letter) that are "punched" into the back of the cart. They look indented into the back.

Since that description sucks, you can see clear examples of them on this page here http://zelda.speedruns.com/oot/generalknowledge/version-differences Although it's for OOT, the same thing holds here. As a note though, for OOT the punch code is always in the top right but for ALTTP I think it can be anywhere on the back label.

As an example, the back of my cart has a "00" in the bottom left so that makes it version 1.0.

There's no way to move this thread and there's no reason to delete here either.

Just repost any questions you have in the ALTTP forum. They have a thread there specifically for questions for new runners.
