Hi,

I have not much experience with speedrunning (or playing) this game. So if anyone want to help to figure out the categorie, Rules etc, just tell me here :)

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

These are the current Rules & Settings for running Warlords: They are of course open for discussion

Rules for Warlords 51%

  • Difficulty (your choice - I recommend Knight)
  • Human Players = 1
  • AI-Players = 7
  • All runs have to be saveless runs
  • Timer starts = Clicking on O.K.
  • Timer stops = Accepting Peace-Offer

Winning condition: Capture more then 50% of all Strongholds. In general you need 41 of 80 Strongholds to win.

Optional: Please also capture your end statistics after you accepted the surrender of your opponents to keep track of the overall turns you needed to win - a not must.

Hi,

check out the resources to download the fullversion of the game. It runs perfect on Win10, just unzip it, start it and enjoy it :)

Well this great game also offers the options to play some sweet random maps, so I have created its own Leaderboard for Random Maps. Lets see which one will be the fastest :)

Game Settings: http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/warlord2_settings4.jpg Just set your random map to these options and then proceed like always.

Have fun

Alright

Scenario Runs after some testing and reading the manual I think chosing this Settings might be the best to begin with.

Chosing a Player: http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/warlord2_settings2.jpg Choose any faction you want to and set the other remaing players on Knight(easy)

Game Options http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/warlord2_settings.jpg I would recommend these options

In Game Settings (Alt+x): http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/warlord2_settings3.jpg I also would recommend to turn off everything in the in game settings, but thats your choice as well. Only if you feel confident enough. The less you watch the more time you save.

Winning Conditions: To win the game you have to conquer at least half the cities on the Map.

Hi,

I will post some basic rules in the next days, but I dont want to decide everything on my own.

This thread is suppossed to figure out which Rules and especially which Settings would be the best.

So you can help me out if you will.

Hi,

alright then good suggestion.

No I was reffering to counting the IGT as; Looking at the Timer in the upper right screen. Level starts with 99, your time is 76 so IGT would be 23 for Level 1. Level 2 your timer stops at 70 so we needed 29s for this stage and so on. Then we add every time from the stage to a total to get the final IGT (this is also much work but propably fair?)

Trying to count the time with removed loading screens would be insane I agree :D

Yeah both Moderators seem to be inactive for a while, dunno how long to wait until they show up again. (yes was mistaken you for a Moderator :) )

Hi,

thanks for this awesome answer :)

Yes thats right I switched my Floppy-Drive Speed to Turbo (makes sense in hindsight :) ) I've used an ADF-File, Kick 1.3 is also available. Maybe I was just screwing something up while changing my Settings to an A500 at the time I was testing this ...who knows (will try it again).

Cant you just define in the Rules the Basic-Setup? Or we change to IGT (but who wants to (re)count all of this^^).

So to sum this up: Basic A500 with Discdrive-Speed = 100% ?

Bye

Hi all,

some weeks ago I was running this game on my Amiga Emulator (WiUAE), after beating it in a decent time I was comparing it with the runs submitted at this site. Well even if I dont utilize the short warps by killing myself, my time is faster then the current WR. The biggest difference is in the Level transitions which are way faster in my run. We are not sure but this seems to be the case that I am using a A1200 to run this game and thats why it is so fast. Is there a general basic setup we should use to play this game? Or is my run legit? You can check it out here:

Btw: I am not able yet to get my version of the game to run on a A500 to test this, lets see if this is really the reason.

Hi thx :)

Talking down Stan needs some more optimizing thats right. Maybe a combination of refusing some extras and raise the price would be best.

On second thought picking up the cannonball can be usefull aswell because you avoid scrolling through your inventory to use the Stable Remover or Compass.

Pretty sure Herman pops up after some seconds even on your first visit of the fort.

About the gunpowder I can give you an answer (I was testing this yesterday too)...its gone....just gone after you blow yourself to MI.

Also there are some more actions you can do in TSOMI, but they dont(?) have any effect like:

  1. You can cook the fish and the meat in the kitchen (maybe this was part of an unused puzzle? Cook the fish before you give it to the Troll? Dunno...).
  2. You can give your Money to Otis (dont know if there is a limit to not get broke [Deadend?])

But overall with your cool findings about the Swordfight and this stuff, I am pretty sure you can lower the current WR ;)

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Hi,

Some puzzles can be solved in different ways, there are not so many I am aware of but anyway here are my findings:

Part 01: How to talk down Stan: http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/monkey/stan.jpg

The price for the ship can go up or down, depending on your dialog choices.

The ship is always worth 10000 pieces of eight, we just need to get it under 7000 to have a deal.

If you: Refuse an extra = - 450 (6 times). The first extra does not substract 450 so there are 6 extras left we dont need, so we can substract 2700 pieces of eight in total.

Go away: You can walk away from Stan to lower the price: 1st time = - 1000 2nd time = - 500 3rd time = - 100 4th time = conversation ends

Make an offer So if you go up an raise our offer this will substract 500 but if we go down this will add half the amount between the last two offers: I.E. Offer 5000 then offer 2000 = + 1500 Offer 4000 then offer 2000 = + 1000 Offer 3000 then offer 2000 = + 500

So this is in my opinion the fastest way to get the Sea Monkey: The first offer you make always substract nothing from the original price, but we have to start somewhere so lets go with 2000. Now we can offer him 3000 (price = 9500), then 4000 (price = 9000), then 5000 (price = 8500), then we leave two times (price = 7000), then we offer 5000 again an voila its yours. (Maybe refusing some extras would also work, but I cant skip dialog in the floppy version I was testing this with, so someone else can check if there is a faster way on PC) You can start the video below to see this strat in action :)

Fun Fact: You can lower the price so much that you can get it for 4000 :)

Part 2: Burning and cooking: http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/monkey/ship.jpg Here you can burn several items and also throw a lot of these items in to the cooking pot - but it dont think there is a real "fastest" method:

Getting flaming mass:

  • Dusty old book
  • Feather pen
  • Business Card
  • 1000% Cotton T-Shirt
  • T-Shirt
  • Map

Yeah you can sorta drop some items by just burning them all, but most of them are gone after you get to Part 3...so burn whatever you want to.

You can also throw all of these items into the cooking-pot except of the Map (so no Deadend possible, you can always get the flamming mass)

Part 3: Blowing up the dam: http://www.milktoastudios.com/img/monkey/sun.jpg One of my favorite puzzles, just because it was so awesome to find out as a kid oyu can solve this in a lot of different ways:

So what can you do:

  1. Open the spyglass and use the lense with the sun
  2. Get the Rock (if you look at it its flint) The Rock works with every steel item so we can use the following items:
  • Spyglass
  • Canonball
  • Magnetic Compass
  • Stable Remover

So the fastes solutions would be to not get the canonball and the spyglass at the fort and just use the compass or stapel remover to blow up the dam. We should avoid spending to much time in the fort to not meet Herman and have to talk to him, so gettting only the rope and the gunpowder would be best.

Alright thats all I am aware of are there more of these kind of puzzles?

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Hi,

I will test this glitsch again anytime soon, thx for some more details on this.

Yeah some puzzles can solved in different ways (I always used the sun to blow up the damn, because this solution blow my mind as a kid...so cool^^) - did not realize you can save an extra line of dialog. In correlation to your post about the sowrd fight insults (onyl knew one Multi-Insult [with the breath], great stuff btw). We (or Me) can create a Topic with the different solutions to figure out which one iis the fastest. I.E. like mentioned above, how to blow up the damn or howto talk down Stan and so on.

What really annoys me in the floppy version is, that you cant skip the dialog with the period key...in MI2 it works or is it another key? On the other hand in TSOMI you can scroll through your inventory and select items via the number keys 1-6 which is not possible in MI2 so weird.

Q - scrolls the inventory up A - scrolls the inventory down 1-6 - selects from inventory objects shown on the screen

Also does anybody has some exp with this function: Reposition Instantly CTRL r (use instant repositioning if you find scrolling too slow)

Thx

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Cool thx.

I ran some Tests for activating the Glitsch, here my results:

Logo Esacpe after 5s at Bar at 23s Logo Esacpe after 4s at Bar at 21-22s Logo Esacpe after 3s at Bar at 20-21s Logo Esacpe after 2s at Bar at 20s

Can you tell the time difference with and without Glitsch? Without the sparkle I was using the Music and the time past in your Run as reference. I think escaping between 3-4s should be correct in my case.

I was also playing a little bit further and could not notice a big time difference to my own run as well. Is it possible to run the floppy version on SCUMMVM like Monkey 2 offers? So you can try it yourself.

About Herman: Maybe cut throughout Space Limitations and later readded for CD-Version. Maybe there is more. Some parts I do indeed different like buying the boat without refusing any extras or blowing up the damn with help of the sun...dunno if this affects the game in any kind.

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Heya Thanks for replying and adding the platform.

I am just playing around with a lot Amiga games lately, this was next :) It is totally fine to be ranked on the same board, maybe I can claim 4th in the near future.

About the different endings, maybe I am jut missing it, but pretty sure that Herman does not appear in my ending. I am also missing the sparkle on the Lucasfilm Logo, have to try to escape it at the correct time (will give it a try)

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Hi Guys and Girls,

I have just finished my run of TSOMI on my Amiga emulator.

You maybe aware that there are some differences in both versions. Like:

  • Not skipable Dialog (but you can speed up the Textmessages)
  • CD-Version runs and loads a bit faster (have to check out the whdload version)
  • Speedglitch idk I cant activate it (maybe it does not work here)
  • Different Ending ?

https://tcrf.net/The_Secret_of_Monkey_Island_(DOS)

Is it possible (and does it make sense) to split the Leaderboard into CD-Version and Floppy Version? If the differences are to minor of course I am also happy to be ranked in the current leaderboard.

You can check out my run here:

I am using WinUAE for emulation and using floppy disc images.

Pretty sure I can squeeze out some more minutes.

Have fun

Cool how amazing :)

Thank you guys

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Hi Guys and Girls,

I was running the game for fun on my Amiga Emulator. Now I just wanted to submit my run, but in the description it says "Emulators are banned".

Well so there is no chance for me to submit my run unless I perfom it on original Amiga-Hardware (dunno how that should work)?

I could not speed up the game like in the Dos version (there are just no options available on Amiga, so it will always be slower) so maybe we can seperate the Categories by plattform?

Any% Amiga i.e.

Of course I am also okay if youjust reject my run, because itson emulator.

You can check it out here:

Thx

Hesse, GermanyMilkToast6 years ago

Hi,

cool thanks for checking (and confirming) this :)

Ah well okay I did not do a double click, but it does not seem to work anyway so...

I was checking one of your older runs without this glitch and you are still 10 minutes faster (looked nearly flawless in execution), after checking it out I noticed some differences (and of course I did a lot smaller mistakes) but more about this in my run description - and run of course.

Funny I was setting up my livesplit and "Amiga Any%" popped up so I knew you respond to my thread :)

Naja nicht zwingend Nachbarn aktuell, wohne berufbedingt in Bayern, aber das ist mir zu peinlich :D

Hi,

I have completed a run today with my Amiga Emulator. Time is round about 1h 7m, have to edit the video on the weekend. Used WinUAE and emulated a standard A1200. WHDLoad Version was installed on my Harddrive.

I noticed that it is possible to pratically teleport in this game; I tried to reproduce this trick but it did not work. (tried it in the basement and the jungle)

So you just save and load in certain places and then you teleport to the exit where your cursor points to right? Is it possible that you only can perform this on Dos?

If so wouldn't it make sense to seperate the runs via plattform, because the game works on both plattforms so different? But I can also live with a 2nd place of course :)

Anyway Glad to played this game a really good Adventure.
