DM the current supermods (red sword). Please make sure you are familiar with he moderation rules and know how to properly retime runs. Please do not ask more than once or harass mods if they do not add you, and do not ask to become mod for games you don't actively run. Mods should be knowledgeable and trustworthy community members. You'll likely be added as a verifier first, and if you participate in the community for a long time, you'll eventually be upped to a mod, and maybe a super.

I don't think I've heard of "the game" until today, but maybe I did a long time ago and forgot it. I did a bit of research and nobody really know when it started, but it's estimated it's origin could be all the way back in 1977! The earliest known reference to it on the internet is from 2002.

I really enjoy old, forgotten youtube videos that randomly get recommended to everyone years later, but finding one years later and calling it "the best" is impossible for me. As far as modern videos go, I really enjoy technical and high quality videos, and the pac-man video from retro game mechanics explained is one of the most interesting and well thought out videos I've ever watched on the site.

Speedrun.com keeps track of the world record history for games, but it doesn't include tied world records, or records that weren't submitted to the site. You can find this list by clicking on the "Statistics" section on the sidebar of any game, and then crossing off any categories you don't want on the graph. For most new games, this works fine, but older communities often need to put together comprehensive google docs/spreadsheets. The best way to find out about the history of a game is to ask the game's community.

I moderate several quiet games and one relatively active one, and it's really similar to being a normal person except every now and then you get DMs from people asking why their run hasn't been verified 2 hours after they submitted it

You should ask this question in the Pokemon FireRed forums, so that other runners can see it and help you. It's most likely that nobody here will be able to answer you. Also, please read the rules before asking questions.

1. The accepted emulator for the GBA games is currently mGBA Version 0.8.4 (only via the standalone client). As per leaderboard rules, runs must be done with FPS set to Native and with a GBA BIOS file loaded. For runners looking to run with a dry battery, set the following settings: Tools > Game Overrides > Game Boy Advanced Untick "Autodetect", and leave "Realtime clock" unticked. All other emulators are banned. If using emulator, using save states and speedup for any reason (including reaching the New Game screen faster) is not allowed. If using emulator, the entire emulator, including the window border, must be captured and visible.

2. if you practice a lot, but starting out you will not be getting top times, but that's okay! Keep running the ganme if you're having fun and after enough time you'll be competitive with the top players. Speedrunning isn't about having natural skill, it takes time to learn any game.

first of all, category requests should be asked in the game's forums or discord server, not here, but the mods of that game have already said they will not add IL leaderboards to the site because of very low interest and framerules making it very easy to complete the levels perfectly optimally.
