Heh, interesting. 1413 is still faster thanks to Alternator shortcut :)
Yes, it doesn't work in 50XX. I mentioned it in the comments for my run.
I'm not sure if getting arrested after Junkyard is actually faster since you probably have to do some crime first and escaping the prison takes over 1 minute. Might be faster to just run. Try to time it.
I sometimes really wish speedrun.com would have some general speedrunning rules that would specify these things as it seems like each community has their own set of rules that were created by moderators. Same goes for framerate locking, timer start/finish and other issues.
I recently spoke to one of SDA's admins about ILs and he said the same as andypanther: "I define IL as "the fastest time for a specific part of a game", how that time is achieved is irrelevant."
I agree with both guys. Just because Serious Sam games allow you to choose a specific level via main menu doesn't mean it has to be the only way to do an IL run. Most games don't have this feature, so your only option would be to use a save from previous level, anyway.
Yeah, the SDA admins woke up and started updating the rules recently (even though it's too late anyway). Their verification guidelines are quite hardcore for 2016 and have been a subject to criticism, but to no end. It pretty much disallows all twitch vods, which is what majority of runners use.
Btw, I recall that in cases when the unofficial patch doesn't change any gameplay, it was allowed in order to fix crashes or video/sound issues on modern PCs. It's still a bit shady, though, since there could be a new hidden bug. The 1.42d definitely needs testing imho.
If RtCW works the same way as Q3, it should be enough to just delete specific pk3 files and use the 1.00 exe
The "general speedrunning rules" (note that I use quotes for a good reason) were established by SDA, many years before this site. Everyone followed it, but then the speedrunning community started to shatter to specific game communities, which sometimes made up their own "weird" rules.

There is actually no mention about using unofficial patches, but believe me, they are not allowed. The reason is simple - unofficial patches can change gameplay. Same thing can happen with source ports and mods.
If this community allows it, it's your decision and I'll have to accept it, even though I disagree.
Sourceruns is the case of its own.
I don't understand the 1.00 argument. You can easily get this version from ebay or any other auction. There are plenty of copies around.
I don't know if your aim is to have a competitive leaderboards on whatever version is best suited for running, or on the fastest officially released version, but from the "general speedrunning rules", mods, external file manipulations and unofficial versions shouldn't be allowed.
There seems to be several changes in the patch that could affect the gameplay:
- Added fix for laggy AI in norway map (thanks Zaero).
- Fixed tesla gun and flamethrower firing in noclip mode, when leaning, and when underwater.
- Fixed hint icon appearing for alarm boxes at ranges farther than they can be activated from.
- Fixed loading autosaves partially breaking briefing cutscenes.
- Added support for mouse buttons 4 and 5.
You want to allow unofficial patches for speedruns?
Just wondering, since the rules say you have to use com_maxfps 85, how come runs show 90? :)
Good find. IIRC you can barrel boost up there in vanilla version ;)
How about making each class a subcategory? Having all classes in one leaderboard is pretty stupid imho as each class is different.
This is more like a feature, but I've noticed that for example http://www.speedrun.com/hitmanbloodmoney/A_Vintage_Year has two 1st and 3rd places since their times are the same, but when I try to implement that to the games I mod (http://www.speedrun.com/tr1 for example), it won't work. I suspect this might be due to different timers as Hitman: BM only use "time" while Tomb Raider 1 use both real-time and in-game timer.
Could you please look at it?
