Hi friends!

We've added No Bingo to RE4R, some of you may be familiar with something like this from RE3R. It's a new variable on SRC on the main boards and it's now split between Full Game and No Bingo again like RE3R. No Bingo will start just after Bingo time in the little hut just after you exit the town square.

There is a comprehensive set of rules and instructions for setting this up here:

This document explains:

  • The inventory layout you must have for No Bingo
  • How to set up a save correctly for No Bingo
  • How to show your inventory when you start a run for both PC and Console

For PC for now until we can get a script sorted, if doing No Bingo then Livesplit will be required as it will be resetting your IGT to 0 upon starting a new run, and changing your Action Points to the correct number. The rules are also now on SRC as well as the link to this document.

The Autosplitter has also been updated so that the game should automatically work even if the game gets updated again, as a result of this though your splits will have deactivated (Sorry about that) and you'll have to enable them again.

Category extensions are also live (I forgot to post this originally) But in category extensions we have No Merchant, Low% and Handgun Only.

Any questions/qualms feel free to @ me or if I missed anything coz my brain is frazzled from working on this all day.

Happy running!

Hi all, hope you'd had a good Christmas/Holidays.

Been a little busy so haven't had time to write this out, but there have been some adjustments to pause buffering. No rules except 1 have been changed.

As well as this post, Separate Ways has had its max time paused changed from 5 minutes to 3 minutes in order to reflect the length of the run.

tldr; runners have began abusing pause buffering to the point where it's easily passing the max allowed pausing time.

We have been a little lax on this but as of late it's gotten really bad, no rules regarding it are being changed other than the Separate Ways rule and it's not being banned. BUT we will be looking at runs more thoroughly and being more strict on this as it's gotten a little out of hand.

To this effect, I have also made an addon tool to the autosplitter that can track how long you've been paused for.

This will help both runners and moderators, and will automatically appear whenever you start a run on either main game or dlc. (This will also help us track if you're going for an actual break which is separate)

We understand some of you won't be happy with this change, but unfortunately we can't please everyone and some people are also unhappy with the amount of pause buffering that's being done at the moment.

Hello everyone! it's been a while. There's been a lot that's happened since my last post but worry not I'm here to update you!

Separate Ways -

The autosplitter for RE4make has been updated as of 21/09/2023 and then 02/10/2023 to support Separate Ways, including splits for all chapters.

As of the 1st October 2023 the speedrun boards for Separate Ways have been released! You can now submit speedruns for the DLC to the boards, please read the rules before submitting runs!

For the moment, there will be no split for Any% or NMG (No Major Glitches) as the only glitch available to our current knowledge is an OOB that saves 15 seconds in chapter 2, to which we do not believe this at the moment is enough to warrant a split. BUT we are happy to revisit this should the game get patched and it's removed or more of these glitches are found.

OOB skip -

DA0 split and ban

Since the conception of DA0 many runners have shared their concerns about how it will affect the future of the run and the health of it.

When Separate Ways released, I pretty quickly accidentally found out that DA0 was never fixed and could still be done in the DLC which opened up the debate "Should we ban DA0 in Separate Ways"

After some deliberation we made an announcment stating that there would be a vote, not only to ban DA0 in Separate Ways entirely, but to also split the Professional boards between DA0 and No DA0, as many agreed that it had made the category not fun to run.

The vote was extremely in favour of banning DA0 in SW and splitting it on Pro, which has now been done and you can find the option for Professional and Professional DA0 on the main game's boards.

As most of you know a vote has been going on this week as to whether we allow the use of double inputs/virtual controller on the PC version of RE4make.

The vote has ended today and I am happy to say that the vote ended with 84 ? votes to allow it 51 ? votes to ban it entirely

This means that double inputs/virtual controller are fully allowed for PC runs and can be submitted to the boards. Thank you all for voting, and if any more votes come up in the future we hope you will also vote then!

Also, a new tech was found recently called "Moonjumping" that allows Leon to move very large distances in the air when you jump off something at 30fps, and at a specific point during the beginning of the jump swap to 120fps.

The problem with this tech however is that it's very hardware dependant, and you move further at higher fps, meaning that people who cannot reach 120fps will not be able to use the tech effectively if at all.

Because of this, we have decided to ban the use of "Moonjumping", any runs in the queue that use it will be rejected and any that might have been accidentally accepted before hand will also be rejected.

As most of you will have been made aware, a tech was found recently that allowed you to double input the interact button on a controller and keyboard to essentially auto mash the interact button. After it was initially found we agreed that you could use the virtual controller to accomplish the same thing due to the fact that we can't really police or even figure out which way someone was doing it, and since its a simple rebind to accomplish the same thing we feel like it was fair to do so.

The tech allows you to:

  • Escape grabs almost instantly
  • Door door clips much easier (they're free now)
  • Pick up items faster and get through first item pickups faster
  • Interact with things from the furthest away distance

The pros and cons of this are subject to each individuals opinion. The main consensus on the positive is that it makes the run healthier and easier for people, as well as removing any possible stress to your hands that playing this game for hours on end may cause. The main negative is that it removes some degree of skill from the run, mainly from door clips and mashing out of prompts.

This vote will be to either allow the tech entirely or ban the tech entirely, meaning you can't even do it with controller and keyboard. The reason for this is as stated above we cannot physically police which way people use it, and even with forcing people to use an input display there are still so many ways around it that we just can't police if people are even using it.

This vote is for PC RUNNERS ONLY, we will be counting once the voting period is over, and any console runners votes will be discounted. Your vote will only be counted if you have a verified PC run of the game, and double votes from the Discord will be discounted.

If the overall vote is to ban it, then all runs using it will be rejected, and all PC runs will require a keyboard overlay.

The main vote is currently ongoing in the Discord, if you want your opinion to be heard and you aren't in there then please reply to this post with your vote to either

A: Allow it entirely B: Ban it entirely

We've made an addendum to the rule of PC runs requiring the costume menu being shown before runs. As long as you show the menu before, during or just after a run the run will still be considered valid.

As some of you know, you can use double inputs to escape grabs and pause buffer better, and we know some of you may not known a controller. As such, @Himegami has offered to make a tutorial on how to set up a virtual controller that can do the same thing, I will edit it into this post when it's done, you may use this instead if you want. (I will also post a guide on here for it)

Also, 7 hit Del Lago will be allowed in No Major Glitches as while it is a glitch, it's simply DA manipulation which is just a normal game mechanic that is already done (albeit more annoying to do)

In addition, after discussion, we have decided that the Altar Dufflebag setup just before Ashley is banned until it can be made consistent, as people are still having issues getting it to work consistently as this game is an unoptimized piece of shit :sadCat: And as it is around a 20 second timesave over other versions we think it unfair that it should be locked behind whether the game performs correctly or not. The current approved ones are - war room Duffle - war room Typewriter Duffle - Ch15 start Duffle -

I have some VERY important rules to update you all on so please read carefully -

  • Due to the overwhelming testing by people like @Tetra @Tobbe & @Himegami and them learning how it works/how to get it properly, duffle bag is once again officially unbanned and you can submit to the boards with runs that have it in as of this post larxaComfy

  • ALL forms of Dufflebag skip are allowed to be done, so please do so at your own discretion as some setups are faster than others. Please be aware that you may not use custom FPS caps to go below 30, however you may cap your FPS from 30-120 to help you get the OOB. There is a lot of useful information on the matter in the Discord, and if you have any questions, that channel is the best place to ask.

  • Also due to a lot of testing, 7 hit Del Lago has finally been figured out, and while it can be annoying to set up it has been determined to be 100% replicable and not hardware dependant, so officially as of this post it is also unbanned and may be used and submitted in runs to the boards.

  • This video explains how it actually works

  • Also, as of the 16th of May 2023, PC runs will be required to show their costume menu before they do runs, this rule is being made as there have been instances of invisible headgear being used, as well as some custom skins using them or having them on :hmm:

  • We are letting you know ahead of time by a week as we know that quite a few runners have runs waiting with duffle etc. that they haven't been able to submit, and it would be unfair to just reject those runs. So please, make sure that you keep an eye on this rule, and I will be updating you all again when the rule takes affect.

That's all for now, Happy Running

While most of our runners are in the Discord, we have come to realize that some of you are not in said Discord for multiple reasons, and because of this have not been made aware of certain rule changes that have been made even if they are reflected in the rules.

So because of that I am going to be trying to keep SRC more up to date on this, as well as other important updates that may come in the future.

Here is a list of the important updates that have been announced in the Discord:

  • As of 20 April 2023 00:20AM GMT+1 both the setup for Dufflebag skip and actually doing dufflebag skip are banned. --- This rule is currently being discussed as we have now ascertained how the strat works, and are currently working towards a solution

  • You may both pause buffer AND swap to 30fps in the Ashley carrying section in order to carry out the animation skips there

  • You may use the DLSS mod for REFramework in order to help improve FPS --- https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/502?tab=description

  • Livesplit is no longer required for PC runs, but it is still strongly recommended. Runs that crash mid chapter will still be invalid.

Also, as many of you know the game was recently patched. This patch fixed almost all of the glitches in the game which effectively makes any% impossible to run on the most current patch.

For PC runners this isn't much of an issue, as there is a way to downpatch the game very easily, there is a guide here on SRC on how to do it - https://www.speedrun.com/re4r/guide/qt6vg

For console runners however the only real way of doing this is to have the physical copy of the game and play offline. If you can't then I would suggest moving to NMG as running any% will just be automatically slower now.

I also have recently added a guide which has documentation on every current known skip, as well as some skips and tricks that are done in the any% run

I have also added some things to the resources page, including REFramework, SRT's and any% splits (which can also be used for any category if changed up a bit)

We're sorry that we haven't been more transparent with this until now, and we promise to be more upfront regarding this in the future.

Please make sure you read the rules provided on SRC. Some have been added/changed, and they are very important for you to be able to submit valid runs. We're very happy to be able to get the boards up sooner than expected, and see those sweet PBs. With that said, do not expect runs to be verified straight away. There will be quite a large influx to go through, and we ask that you be patient after submitting.

We anticipate the boards opening in 2 to 3 weeks after launch [no later than April 14th]

The mod team will need time to decide on categories for the game based on what we and the community find. This takes careful and thorough planning to ensure we create categories that are practical and fair for the community. We also need the necessary time to develop any tools needed for the speedrun [such as the autosplitter and SRT], so they can be distributed as soon as the boards open.

When the categories are created, the official rules for that category will be available under the “Show Rules” tab. We anticipate the categories to have different rules depending on the run, so be sure to check them out before recording your run!

The mod team will be working very hard to verify all runs as fast as we can, as we anticipate a VERY HIGH volume of submissions. Speedrun.com states that moderators are provided 21 days to handle a submission, but we will make sure to get through your runs as swiftly as possible. We greatly appreciate your patience!
