Proof of 31.4 run being cheated?

There may be time to save on the shroom grab in the first room over the TAS, but very CLEARLY not 0.2 seconds. Especially when my TAS did 2 fast accels while he only did 1. Also, it was NOT just half a second of improvement over the fireflower. He appears to have saved time on the first room. At least about 7 frames were saved on the first room. And I did 2 fast accels in the TAS. Plus, I'm sure the grab from the top and the fast accel is surely faster than falling all the way down to the bottom and THEN just gaining your running speed back normally, and even if doing it WITH a fast accel saved time, it would probably be only by a matter of a few frames, NOT almost 0.4 seconds. I made the TAS. I know where there's time save. And I can tell you that this run is bogus. Loopie, the owner of the leaderboard, agrees. JonnyBoy agrees. I agree. And if he didn't have the balls to compare his cheated run to the TAS, his run probably could have slipped through for a few more days, instead of being caught first-day. We have perma-banned him from the leaderboards. We will allow him to appeal if he admits to his cheats, but we will have to accept movie files from his emulator (so TAS/slowdown/speedup is easily detectable), and also split files for runs with splits. If either of the 2/3 sources don't align, the run WILL be rejected. I'll send evidence to other mods if I find any, and I'll send the files to other mods to see if they detect something I didn't.

Watch the video frame by frame. @ 0:26 xein enters pipe first, then youtubeman, then the TAS. @ 0:30 xein exits first, then youtubeman, then the TAS, exactly how they entered the pipe. Again if you are making the claims that he is cheating please compile some evidence and show proof. Saying that he did it faster than TAS or just simply stating "it's bullshit!" isn't exactly proving that he cheated?

And if you need PROOF that he gained time in the first room, here you go. https://imgur.com/A62gOEs The top left is Youtubeman's run, bottom right is my TAS. The one farther in the pipe saved more time. I added comparisons with the lines over the image.

And, before you ask, I think the video is unsynced on Xein's side.

Ok, so again here we are witnessing xein go in first, then youtubeman, then the TAS, do you notice a trend?

I think he literally intentionally delayed Xein's video feed to make it look like we're just liars. Don't believe Youtubeman's bullshit

You can watch the video frame by frame lad... they all start at the same exact frame.

OK, you kept on kissing Youtubeman's ASS. Deleting all forum posts from you and removing all further posts made by you. We don't want ass-kissing people like you in our community

Loopie, can you delete the forum post please

I unlocked the thread.

You guys need better answers than this. Silencing discussion on the topic is a terrible way to analyze what's being looked at. I have no idea whether the video is legit or not, but the discussion here is hilariously unconvincing and just seems to rush to accuse someone of cheating without thorough details. The moderators look more likely wrong than right to me because the reasons given look really unconvincing.

The TAS uses 175 rerecords and 20 minutes of creation time, which is a really low amount of effort. The TAS grabs the mushroom from the left, which looks hilariously slow. The TAS as a baseline for what's possible seems very bad.

1: "Bye PAL, you ain't no NTSC."

  • Did the user submit a PAL run and you called it cheating due to lack of knowledge that it was a PAL run? Is playing on PAL cheating? Please clarify.

2: "but we will have to accept movie files from his emulator"

  • I guess if your perception is some sort of splice or frame removal, this would sort of identify that, but it doesn't necessarily imply legitimacy.

3: "and also split files for runs with splits"

  • Users can manually edit splits, what does this even check?

4: "I made the TAS."

  • A TAS is a data point. This TAS also looks unoptimized and looks like a bad baseline comparison.

Additionally, video processing problems can lead to discrepancies like this.

I know the TAS isn't as optimized as it can be, but it's decent. Don't think it's bad enough that it loses 0.43 seconds to a human's playthrough. I grab the mushroom from the left to do a fast accel, to save time. If I grabbed from the right, I'd have to wait for Luigi to fall, which would be quite slow. For the first reason.. 1. There is no PAL version of this hack, 2. it was a joke. For the second reason, a movie file will definitely help if what we think happened based on video analysis is what happened. For the third reason, I know that, but it just gives a slightly bigger (by probably 0.01%) chance to catch him cheating. Plus, for this run, he doesn't even use splits. For reason 4, I definitely know that my TAS is unoptimized, but it SURELY shouldn't lose 0.43 seconds to a human playthrough that has zero fast accels, from a player that has probably been playing this category for about 3 hours. If someone can optimize a TAS or something to the point that it gets within a few frames of his time, I'll consider an unban and allowing his run back on the leaderboard. I'm not letting the run back onto the leaderboard until I get proof, whether it's a TAS or a human playthrough by a trusted player / mod, or maybe a segmented run that someone makes. Loopie says he looked through the run, and that "everything was illegitimate".

"I'm not letting the run back onto the leaderboard until I get proof, whether it's a TAS or a human playthrough by a trusted player / mod, or maybe a segmented run that someone makes."

This is NOT how the burden of proof works.

Speaking as someone with extensive experience moderating some of the biggest games in speedrunning, this is completely the wrong way to tackle this issue. The burden of proof does not lie with the runner to show their run is legitimate, it lies with the moderators to prove that it's ILlegitimate, and this has not been satisfied. Your argument basically boils down to "It's faster than the TAS" and "Loopie says so"

Last I checked, having a faster time than what you have straight-up admitted is an unoptimised TAS is not grounds for deciding that someone has cheated, nor is an argument from authority. Loopie's opinion, whilst it could be well-informed, is not infallible, and he's not above needing to provide evidence to back up his claims. Giving someone free license to act as the dictator of a board with no need to provide any justification is gonna drive people away real fast, and is just not workable for reasons that should be self-evident.

Youtubeman has provided a direct comparison video showing how and where his run saves time over the TAS, and your response is just "It's fake." That's not a response, it's not even an argument. You should be able to demonstrate WHY it's fake with data like the framerate being too high, or Luigi moving too many pixels per frame, but none of that is present here. There's only blind assertions followed by abuse of power whenever anyone dares speak out against you. If you cannot conclusively and concisely demonstrate why a run is fake, you do not have the right to remove it from the leaderboards on those grounds.

From what I can see, all four of you mod this ROMhack exclusively, and honestly all I'm seeing here is a bunch of guys tripping on their first taste of power.
