I should have just deleted the video and vanished into the night instead of shining a big spotlight an the rule that voids your runs :( The irony is that my Expert% time is still valid.... I'm fine, it's UJ thats getting screwed in this. :(

I still think the rule is dumb, even after all you've explained. It doesn't change enough to be worth excluding. It's a weight value with a shell. It's still the same game.

Here's my solution "All heavy and light karts must be removed from the game before play, all medium weight addon karts allowed (within reason)."

If we are invalidating UJ's runs, lets invalidate every single run at the same time. Clear the slate. Also, before any new runs can be submitted, we need to spend a week or two MAKING ABSOLUTELY SURE that the rules are clear and understood by all.

EDIT: FORGET EVERYTHING ELSE - the game lets you add custom karts. custom karts are allowed because the game allows them. end of discussion? You cannot change the game in any way, you cannot use your own kart, unless it is actually in the game available to be downloaded. Any thing the game allows is allowed.

We are all ignoring the massive irony in the fact that changing the actual game code to add a timer is allowed, but applying a cosmetic skin using the default features of the game is currently not allowed.

Wow this is actually a super complicated problem. Removing equivalently weighted stock karts is a good solution, there are one or two older, lower res karts that I wouldn't mind removing.

That side issue is a really good point. I'm going to add light and heavy karts each time I add a medium, to keep it balanced. Maybe that should be the rule. It would make runs more entertaining to watch with all sorts of weird karts driving around. As long as they are no smaller or bigger than the stock standard karts. I don't even think bigger karts should be void actually, no-one wants to drive with or against a super big kart. Except for me I guess lol. It's just, "she do" tho...

You want to know something else? I was thinking earlier and I realised that it was probably me who deleted my own run when I was deleting another one...... I wanted to delete the one with no timer and replace it with a timer one, I couldn't obsolete the old run because the new one was actually a slower time even though it was more skilled and a kind of entertaining I could never replicate again. I got bodied by GP's or skips or something and lost many minutes, I can't remember. I mean, it's only novice%, it's more of an endurance challenge category haha.

I've made excuses for accusing people of deleting that run. The real fact is that I just have to do better and try harder in the future.

I typed that when I had just gotten out of bed, I need to set a rule to not type anything for one hour after waking up or before going to bed, can't think properly. Alayan asked an innocent question and I just started ranting for no good reason lol.

I 100% don't care, this is my final intermediate% run for a while, if it's voided that's their decision. It would be a problem if this was a contested record, but it isn't. This run is slightly a problem because it's a really good time. But the novice% I was pretty sure I submitted that, and pretty sure it got verified? But UJ or kitoko got rid of it without telling me? Even though it's a terrible time that is intended to be an advertisement for speedrunning stk? IT WAS LITERALLY WORSE THAN MY PREVIOUS TIME. I WAS UPDATING IT TO CONFORM TO NEW TIMING RULES TO BEGIN WITH! But I guess I broke a different rule. Have the mod wars begun? Is consensus no longer required?

lol this is a farce. You've felt it too, open-source is full of weird people like us, it's a difficult place to arrive at any kind of consensus. It's a difficult community to broach without being reprimanded by a hyper zealous mod overstepping their grounds. That EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION can be applied to my experience with both STK and 0 A.D this week. I kinda just want to make entertainment and help people, I shouldn't have expected it to be easy, but I could never have guessed it would be this difficult. (Edit: the 0ad thing wasn't serious, just a misunderstanding that led to some dismissiveness that triggered me a bit.)

I'll just re-run them if it will keep everyone happy. I won't just give up.

You're assuming a false dichotomy. If something is respected it doesn't mean that other things are not respected. If not running a version is respect for it's quality, it doesn't mean that running a version is disrespect for its lack of quality. All I was saying is "0.9.4 is good for casuals which means that speedrunners don't like it, and that's okay." You were saying that it is bad to ban new versions, and I was agreeing in an obtuse and needlessly florid manner, like I am right now. There is no "maybe", I will come and do multiple runs of 0.9.4 for fun and memes, I thought I made that clear. I mightn't even run 0.9.3 anymore. I don't care if it's slow. It's a different speedgame now. Same game, different speedgame.

I could have ran two expert% runs in the time I spent thinking about this. This discussion is wasted effort. It's fine as it is.

This is how it should be: All new versions will be added. All actively run versions will be shown by default. All inactive versions will be set as miscellaneous. All of you are going to stop talking and start speedrunning.

I'm not sure about gate skip. The only thing I know is that @UbuntuJackson knows. He always knows lol.

This is a unique situation, the speed change between 0.9.3 and 0.9.4 happened as a direct result of our speedruns. Our videos have been posted directly on their github saying "we need to fix this!" In a small way, we have helped to make the game more fun for the thousands of casual players. We really should feel proud of our contributions. (Edit: also, multiplayer is going to be much fairer without all these obscure tricks. Remember, multiplayer is being tested right now, this will be the biggest new player/runner influx we've ever seen.)

0.9.4 is about 30 minutes slower than 0.9.3, They cannot be combined. Major versions are defined by major changes, removing speedrun shortcuts is not a "major change" from their perspective, but from our perspective it is the biggest change between versions that has ever happened to the game.

0.9.4 still includes Gate Skip, there is no good reason for them to patch it as it doesn't affect multiplayer in any way. 0.9.4 will be actively run as an any%, the other categories might get less love, but I'll still run them, so at least the board wont be empty.

Add 0.9.4, but set 0.9.3 to show as the default category. (0.9.3 - 0.9.4 - 0.8.1) The game has been patched and fixed to make a better casual player experience, it's a better game, and we are respecting that version by not running it, the game is "too good to run".

There is a SITE BUG which is preventing the 0.9.2 IL's from moving to misc, this fact is the only issue that should have been discussed outside of our own game forum IMHO.

I'm going to obsolete all my old full-game runs and re-run them with the timer patch. Re running might take longer but it will be more fun than counting frames lol. Anyway, it will be good to replace muley mcmuleface with kawaiikiki haha.

OBS is absolutely the best open source recording software. There are closed source programs that are better, but it cannot be guaranteed that they aren't hosting some sort of malicious software. The likelyhood of any commercial product containing malware is very low. You just must ensure you are downloading the software from an official source. After recording 300 videos, OBS has crashed 3 times. In my use case, in it %99 reliable. I would be interested in hearing what problems you have had with OBS, if you would care to elaborate?

There is only one other open source screen recording software for windows that is being actively developed, and that is "ShareX"

I highly recommend OBS, it's the best open source screenrecorder, many more options and settings, and you can also use it for streaming. You should be able to use hardware accelerated encoding also. https://obsproject.com/ apparently xSplit is also good, but it's closed source.

What do we feel about kart-switching mid run? I would switch to a low range kart for nessies pond and some others.

Are you using OBS for recording? Maybe add a compression filter to the "desktop audio" channel? Although I'm not the best one to talk about this kind of stuff, my audio is all over the place lol.

I think we should allow any addon as long as it can in no way affect the time. Cosmetic addons only, basically. Git version has colored karts now, i'll try that out on my next run.

To move GPs to the full-game list, we would have to add a gp category for every difficulty and version. Thats 48 categories total. It's a good idea, it's just the implementation is unfeasable. Maybe with Subcategories it could work?

Edit: I cannot figure out how to make a subcategory under another subcategory in the full game list. I don't think this is going to work. It's fine as it is. To summon more runners, we need to upload more runs, I think it's that easy.
