It's Switch time!

So, picking up SM64 earlier last month oddly rekindled inside me my old love for Nintendo and Mario, which Ill admit had been quite dead since Sunshine (I know its revered in the SR community, but honestly I thought it sucked, and Galaxy lost me with motion controls...as did the Wii as a whole lol). So after watching some Odyssey runs I thought...why not?! Christmas is coming up, Ill treat myself to a new console :)

Some questions I have before committing, is the Nintendo-licensed Pro controller the best one, or are cheaper options such as the one Hori makes sufficient? I dont see myself wanting to play with the Joycons seperated, nor attached bc the joysticks are WAY too tiny. Also, does the Pro controller use the same input to the Switch as a charger would? I guess Im asking would I be able to use the Pro and charge the Switch in handheld mode at the same time lol. Ima lazy fuck, and 90% of the time I foresee me playing this in bed, by my charger.

Secondly, any other "essential" accesories you Switch owners find necessary after having one for awhile?

Pro controller is a must tbh. I can recommend the XC2 one, fits my giant paws perfectly. other than that, get a stand, the integrated one doesn't work on non-flat surfaces. the charging port is on the bottom, so no easy other way of charging while playing on kickstand. /edit: yes, both the console and controller have usb-c - so no cable switching

Yeah, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the best one, I don't have it but I heard they fixed some stuff on it so it's even better than the other ones. And NEVER connect it to your PC and use it as a Controller there because apparently the Controller doesn't work on the Switch then, happened to me .... twice.

@European_Union - So I couldn't charge the Switch while also using the Protroller? I'm asking this specifically bc I know 9/10 times I'm gonna be playing in bed and not on the tv so I'm just curious how often I'll have to deviate from that setup to avoid interrupted runs.

And thank you both for the controller suggestion, I had seen the XC2 controller, but wouldn't have thought to try it. I probably will now. Still wondering if the Hori is any good though...

Well I don't own any Hori controllers but theyve been around super long and from what Ive heard theyre not bad. Maybe try one out?
So I couldn't charge the Switch while also using the Protroller?
the controllers are wireless, so you can charge both independently while using both - although as I said, the switch's port is at the bottom, so unless you have a charging stand you have a hard time.

Oh okay I see, but should I opt for one of the cheaper $20 wired controllers (or the Hori) would I be able to charge the Switch while using one of those? Since I'm gonna be playing in bed I'm inclined to buy a wired controller since distance won't be a factor and they're less expensive...ugh new console time is a stressful time lol. Sorry its just since Ive yet to see a Switch in person Idk what inputs it has

if you plug the controller into the console, the console powers the controller, can't charge the console in this process. but really, stay away from hori stuff - the splatoon headset they did was so horrible I'll avoid anything they produce.

That's why I'm asking in a thread, bc Ime Hori has made great stuff (Their HRAP sticks for fighting games mainly, also the Horipad for N64 is great), but I know some people who don't like their stuff. So I wanted to know some opinions from actual owners before I buy. Wouldn't want it to be one of those things where months down the line the Horipad is lauded as the best Switch Pro variation and is $100- $150 by the time I decide to get one. I'm tired of that kinda crap haha
