Speedruns with high potential for viralness and high views on youtube

@Mikkelhess "I am looking for some runs that are very likely to go viral and/or make a great amount of views on youtube" This is impossible. Speed games that are already popular have tons of other runners, making it harder to stand out. Speed games that aren't already popular are, well, unpopular. Just run something you want to play. Don't worry about trying to be popular or famous, it probably won't happen, and it definitely won't happen quickly.

"A more recent example would be the game 'Baldi's basics' which got really viral on youtube, and in which the WRs gain a good amount of views" Most of the reason why that game is so popular as a speed game is because a relatively large streamer played it (that streamer's WR videos have significantly more views than anyone else's for the game). It didn't just "go viral" on its own because of its quality as a speed game or anything (its literally just a dumb meme game).

Get WR in any upcoming game lol I guess your best bet is to get a good time in games like: Mario, Pokémon and Zelda at release date.

Although, I think you shouldn't aim for 'going viral', and 'views'. Run a lot, get involved in the community, and have fun in your speedruns.

Yeah this is the wrong approach to this hobby. Speedrunning for views is the easiest way to get burnt out or frustrated, especially if you don’t like the game you’re running.

I can understand wanting to get more popular, but getting popular in this hobby (or on sites like Twitch and YouTube in general) is extremely hard and only happens to a very few lucky individuals. You’re better off playing games you like and doing other things to gain more momentum (consistent streaming is a big one). Nobody gets popular overnight, it’s a long process and doing runs of popular games won’t aid that as much as you may think.

Either speedrun a game that's going to come out soon that has a very popular following as soon as it arrives (The Last of Us 2, for example) or convince a very popular speedrunner to speedrun said game.

As other posts above said, you're going to get burnt out very quickly of the speedrun you decide on if your only focus is growing your popularity. Your watchers will notice this. They do not want to watch someone who does not enjoy the game they're playing. They will notice that you are the literal definition of a sellout-which, from the people I've interacted with, is VERY frowned upon to use speedrunning as a way to sell out. No one appreciates others using their hobby as a way to gain attention.

That was a bit of a rant there, but you get my point. Speedrun because you love it, not to get popular. It'll only hurt you in the long run.

I do agree that just running games for the views is never good but for the sake of the question Ocarina of Time and Super Metroid will always get you a ton of views and be popular. And like Liv says Speedrun any game that a popular face is playing this is all good advice for the short term. If you however want long term views and vairalness then speedrun games that interest you and do so often if you can on something like twitch or any streaming platform.

However getting a world record of any kind will always garner a lot of views, and there are a lot of records that could be gotten with minimal effort due to the communities of some games not being very big or active. And never run games that you do not like or will not no matter how much attention it might garner as that is the best way to get burnt out.

They won't though, that's the thing. Only the popular runners get a lot of views running those games. Right at this very second a search for "Super Mario 64" on Twitch brings up a single stream with over 100 viewers, and then a great number of streams with single-digit viewers. And yes, a lot of those are speedrunning streams.

Speedrunning for views is not exactly the way to get into this hobby. It should always be viewed as a happy coincidence if you get a lot of views, not the end goal. This is particularly true when you want to speedrun multiple games but end up only having an 'audience' for one of your games, if all you're concerned about is viewercount then you'll just end up neglecting your other games.

Well i said that Super Metroid and Ocarina of time are popular as the last i checked they had a cult following. And at the time of me looking it up of those 3 searches Ocarina of time had the most as one person had 1,900 viewers but that was a 24 hour stream. And the OP wanted to know the most likely ones so that is what i listed not counting in the factors of popular people playing the games of course.

I made 1-2 views per speedrun. It's over for me if I want the views.

I think what I said above still stands, just run a game that you enjoy and that you think is an interesting speed game. You can't control whether or not people are interested in your streams or your runs, and it'll probably take quite a while to get to a point where you get a good amount of viewers on average, but you can run as often as possible and improve your skills in something that you're genuinely passionate about, and that's really your best bet at getting people to watch your content.

Honestly, don't pay attention to your stats at all, doing that can be really discouraging and can stop you from running the games that you actually want to run. Just play games you like and be real.

Just my 2 pence: as a viewer there are certain games I watch because they have a specific meaning for me - so it's not a herd mentality thing. Outside of that, and again this is just me personally, I watch runners because of the runner, regardless of the game they're playing. If the theoretical runner is no good at commentating or interacting or whatever then it doesn't matter what the game is, it's not going to be a great viewing experience.

Also I tend to prefer watching streams with smaller audiences, feels more intimate I guess, but that's just me.

It does depend. It’s rare I watch for the streamer-there are some people I go out of my way to watch and I prioritize them, but I will literally watch any speedrunner. I don’t care about your personality. I’m probably in the minority on this though.
