Anyone want to help me with World Court Tennis?

World Court Tennis is the predecessor to Final Lap Twin. It is also on the same console and has the same hybrid RPG mechanics, except with tennis. It desperately needs runners. I would like to tell you that I did ban emulator though; you will need the real game to play it. You can record it however you like though, as long as the whole television or monitor is in view and is easy to see. I look forward to verifying runs!

May I ask why you're not allowing emulator runs? With the TG-16 being such a relatively obscure console, disallowing emulator runs is going to rule out the vast majority of speedrunners. If you're desperately looking for runners of this game, as you put it, I'm not sure that this is the best approach, but nevertheless, I am interested in hearing your reasoning for that decision.

Without emulators, it’s easier to ensure nobody’s cheating. Also, everyone is on an even playing field. With emulator, the quality of computer might wildly vary. Keeping it limited to console is cheaper than the expensive and difficult computers you’ll need for decent emulation. A PC Engine Duo is cheaper than ever now, only costing $120-150 last I checked. The game may not look or sound as good, but I don’t care about that and it lowers the barrier to entry and evens the playing field.

Final Lap Twin in particular has three runs, all of which are on emulator. Do people not like using the Turbografx? It’s a good console. The controller is comfortable, the console is durable, and it’s easy to use. Many other leaderboards require consoles due to the lag reduction emulators offer. Lastly, being a fan of a console you don’t own or play for real is just tacky IMO.

These are paper thin excuses to ban emulation and reek of gatekeeping and privledge.

Let alone how presumptious it is.

Don't call things people enjoy tacky. That's unbelievably rude.

Fine then. I’ll allow emulator when I can. But I do think allowing emulator will create more privilege discrepancies between runners, not less. Computer gaming is and has always been more expensive. The (English) Turbografx is expensive, but not computer gaming expensive. We’re only talking hundreds of dollars for old, unpopular consoles rather than thousands for what will likely be brand new PCs optimized for gaming.

And about cheating- emulators lack the buzz of old consoles, making splices harder to detect. Loading and lag can be inaccurate, and straight up modding or cheating is less obvious than on console. Less known is sound making a difference, whether it masks cheating or makes something faster in the game due to a sound being faster or cutting out.

I plan on allowing emulator now that I’m outvoted, but be aware of the complications that introduces. I would have no issues with it if there weren’t so many clear advantages to using emulators.

Edit: Done.
