Do you have to capture both screens?

Hi,

I couldn't really find an answer to this question. But when you want to record your DS with a camera, does both screens have to be on screen to have a legal run?

I do have a New 3DS I can download homebrew on to capture it, but I don't know if it's worth the risk.

Any other tips are welcome how to capture my DS without buying a capture card!

Regards!

I think it would depend on the game/run, say like you're running smash bros for 3DS doing Classic or something where the selections are at the bottom screen, you would probably need to show that you're selecting the right option for the specific run, but it would probably be better to ask in whatever game you're going to run in their forums, also homebrew is very easy if you follow the instructions step by step and don't skip anything, very low risk and high reward as you'll be able to download a plug-in that allows for wireless video capture, but you have to be on 11.2 or lower as there is no current way to acquire homebrew on 11.3

first off, you seem to think DS & 3DS are interchangeable. DS & 3DS are 2 different devices. based on this I'll assume you only have a 3ds.
But when you want to record your DS with a camera, does both screens have to be on screen to have a legal run?
the legality of the run depends heavily on the community of the game you're trying to run, it's usually not necessary. personally, I'd include the 2nd screen as well, since there are plugins w/ cfw that can show internal data on the 2nd screen. (see Monster Hunter Gen HP Bar plugin for NTR)
I do have a New 3DS I can download homebrew on to capture it
installing cfw for capture is currently only possible up to firmware 11.2 (see 3ds.guide or r/3dshacks for more info) yes, it's worth it (there's no risk other than not following the guide)
Any other tips are welcome how to capture my DS without buying a capture card!
I've seen many runs by japanese guys just having a camera + something to fixate it. it's not the best quality, yes, but it's enough to verifiy. A capture unit or NTR Streaming would be better, obviously, but the former costs a shitton of money and the latter requires cfw and a good router.
