I am new to the site, and wanted to submit my SMO any%, (its pretty bad, 1:38:52) but I feel like a new runner with a time less then 10 minutes from the video requirement line will gain suspicion. Either way, I would like to start recording my runs, but I don't have a capture card. Is finding a way to prop my phone up to watch my Switch screen (I'll just play in tabletop mode) the best way, or is there a better option? (I have a 6+, camera quality is decent enough)
As long as you can see everything with decent quality it's good! Just be sure that the Switch is big enough on the actual recording (TV mode might be better for this) And be sure that there's enough free space on your phone so it can actually record the whole run
That doesn't cause suspicion, no worries. We don't really get suspicious until it's within a few minute range of being within requiring videos.
Phone is perfectly acceptable. Just be careful that it's clear enough and it showcases at least most of the run, since we will reject the run if the video proof looks odd.
Thank you for the help! So just to be clear, I should go ahead and post my current PB right now, then send in the recording next time I PB
Alright there was a change, all runs require video proof now. Sorry man lol
Yeah, just using your phone will be good enough. My advice though is that if you are gonna use your phone to record make the room dark and the screen bright and the video will look better.
heavily depends on how good the phone is and what it's recording. anything that goes from dark to flashy/white and then back to dark will completely mess up the recording unless the room is well lit. I'd prefer a well lit room recording over a dark room, even if that means the recording isn't as colour-intensive.
ohh I see mine records horribly in the light so I diddn't think I will keep that in mind for advice in the future :) thank you

I used to do the exact opposite about a year ago :P
Main reason I don't like them light rooms you get that glare haha but it looks pretty good there
I actually got a glass bottle and put my mobile phone in front of it carefully so it doesn't fall and look away from the screen.
@Superspyro24 I like that idea, I currently use the laptop for Livesplit though, and a cheapo monitor for my playing. I do have a spare TV though (my game room is loud due to siblings, and the fact that its pretty much necessary to walk through to get anywhere in the house) so I could in theory have a setup looking like this:
Switch dock-->Spare TV Laptop (webcam pointed at spare TV)-->cheapo monitor | | V USB keyboard so I can do my splits easily
And I also like it because I had to delete almost everything on my phone to make space for a hypothetical completed run. I think after PBing April break I need a rest, I'm thinking about doing a different game while I just do some practice for Odyssey (I'm working on better routes as well)
There's Xsplit Broadcaster and OBS. Both are free. Just hook your TV up to your PC with an HDMI cord and start recording.
Mariovsluigi, I never knew you could utilize those programs without a capture card, but wouldn’t you need at HDMI out from your TV and an HDMI in to your laptop/PC?
They're (unfortunately) mistaken. To get console footage on your PC, you need a capture card. You can use those programs to record anything on your computer, but getting the footage there is the first step.
