I plan to start speedrunning but I would need a capture card any suggestions on a good, cheap first capture card?

What consoles are you trying to capture? For consoles that output composite/s-video the best option is a gv-usb2 which will run you $40 USD.

For capturing HDMI you have a lot of options and brands, but you won’t find a decent one under around $150 USD.

Its definetely not a good capture card, but it does the job to start, and i bought it 70 euros : https://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-AVerCapture-Streaming-Definition-Hardware/dp/B00I0QZMPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517597639&sr=8-1&keywords=avermedia+lite

Its easy to plug, easy to configure and use with obs, but the thing is you cant capture 60 fps, only 30, but it doesnt look that bad and does the job to record your runs. You can watch my Mario odyssey PB, i think the last one is 720p but im not sure, maybe 480, anyway its 30 fps, but you can totally watch it.

Oh and of course if you plan on capturing older consoles, timmiluvs gave you the answer already :)

I bought the eazycap for ~10$ and it still does a good job. no need to spend a good amount of money if you just want to submit runs imo

I-o DATA GV-USB2. It has composite and s-video, generally has a better performance than EZ Cap (especially the EZ Cap clones).

It comes recommended if you are going the Standard Definition route.
It comes recommended if you are going the Standard Definition route.
If you're not looking for quality, the ezcap clones do the job just fine tho. no reason to spend 400% of the money for almost the same results (SD is crap quality either way)
