Moderation of Grand Theft Auto V

This is an issue that I think should be reviewed by Site Admins / Full Mods.

In roughly the last 48 hours, there has been a new rule introduced seemingly without, or even against the consensus of the community.

A runner (ToriksLV, a Super Mod) got a new WR in the Trevor% category, while not streaming. This enabled him to have a higher framerate due to lower processor usage, which is apparently quite beneficial. There was no rule against running off stream, and since anyone can do it, it isn't even unfair.

Another runner (DarkViperAU, a Super Mod) lost his WR to this run. He believed the issue should be resolved by introducing an FPS limit to level the playing field.

In the forums, there was certainly no consensus on the matter, and it appeared to me that more people were against the idea than for it. ToriksLV seemed not to be happy about the change, but agreed to it nonetheless.

Despite the clear lack of consensus, DarkViperAU enacted the new rule, and when I asked in one of his streams if the change was written in stone, he said yes, it would not be changed back.

There also has been an issue of a runner (Ryedawg) submitting a run, which DarkViperAU said would immediately be rejected, and that Ryedawg may also be banned from the forum. This could well be for legitimate reasons, but there seems to be a major existing feud between DarkViperAU and Ryedawg. I don't know the details well enough to comment further on that.

For the sake of disclosure, I personally am against the change in rules.

I have been watching DarkViperAU's streams for some time, and have no ill will towards him personally, nor is my aim to have him removed as a mod. He clearly knows a huge amount about the game, and would therefore be very useful as a mod. However, for the sake of the community, I think the fact that rules are seemingly enacted without or against community consensus, and that there are conflicts of interest (the change in rules appearing to be a clear benefit to DarkViperAU, and his feud with Ryedawg), should be looked into.

They're supposedly having a vote on the forums later it seems, here:

https://www.speedrun.com/gtav/thread/95aqd - if runners wish to leave their viewpoint there, then they should do so. Without all the idiotic spamming of non-contributing posts.

Regarding the ban, I do not believe it should be enforced, so I will talk to DarkViper later.

@Liv the issue is, the vote is to runners only, and as you have seen in other threads DarkViper has banned people and removed runs that were done years ago to discredit people so they won't be able to vote. What's the point in having a vote if a super mod can just pick and choose who gets to vote and ban anyone who isn't on his side?

Whilst I somewhat agree with the sentiment it's "runners only" (to disway the vote purely into becoming whoever can pull the larger numbers) they certainly shouldn't be able to ban anyone regarding the leaderboard. And I'll be talking to the moderators regarding this later today.

Update:

At this point, the rule change in question appears to have been repealed, so the issue of the rule existing without the consensus of the community seems to be gone.

Given that, as I understand it, a moderator on this site is meant to be a representative of the community, not it's leader or dictator, DarkViperAU's reputation as a moderator has been unsalvageably tarnished in my eyes, given how this issue was handled in the first place.

As I understand it, DarkViperAU has contributed a lot to the GTA V speedrunning community, and holds it very dear, so I hope this type of situation doesn't repeat, and the drama goes away, and we all (including him) can just have some fun.
