2nd icon

You can get a custom icon if you donate 5$ but I noticed some people got a second one (like 360Chrism), why? I couldn't find anything

European Union

these are special hardcoded icons for special people.

(aka if you are partnered on twitch)

I said it before and I'll say it again: These second icons need to either go away or given to everyone under the same conditions. There is literally no reason why Twitch partners should get any special treatment here, as speedrun.com is in no way affiliated with Twitch, their partner program does in no way benefit us. For that reason, the second icons make speedrun.com look unprofessional.

You're getting a bit too bent out of shape over an icon my dude

I just hide them with css... You can do the same with adblock.

It's not the point if I see them or not, I just think they make us look bad as a site. Why would we want to look like we're affiliated with Twitch? There is no reason to support their partner program.

Antarctica

There's also no reason not to. It's just an icon lol. It has nothing to do with supporting or having an agreement with Twitch. I don't know how having your sub icon next to your name if you're a twitch partner is making the site look bad or giving anyone special treatment (special treatment would be if being a twitch partner got you priority in getting runs verified or something) because it's literally just a small picture and nothing more.

I never much saw the point of the partner icons, but neither do I see the point of making a big deal about it. Le shrug

I find it surprising that there aren't more people who see this as a problem. It may only be a small icon, but it still a special treatment that is in no way justified for an independent site. Twitch's partner program is quite a shady thing anyway, I find it problematic when it is advertised here.

California, USA

I've had bad experience with Duolingo. Didn't teach me a thing. Please delete that icon. ASKfm is also really shady. I don't want to support them because I think that they are shady. Get rid of that please. Tumblr is a safe space. Why are we promoting that on this site. GTFO.

California, USA

Obviously that was a joke, but the point is that why do they even matter? Apparently you can hide them, which is neat. All these other icons are just that. Icons. Why would you get rid of something if it's not a problem?

Switzerland

Just having icons of an external site that serve as a link to someones profile is not the same thing. Giving Twitch partners extra icons is like making the Youtube icon look different because the linked Youtube account happens to have a Youtube Red subscription. Both things advertise a business model on the external site that is completely unrelated to speedrun.com.

Also, if you are fine with the special treatment of Twitch partners: Why not also giving an extra icon to people that have a huge, sponsored Youtube channel? Or people who are the equivalent of a Twitch partner on any other streaming platform? If you do it for Twitch, might as well do it for other sites too, to be consistent.

Yes, this seems to be the case. I seem to be the only one who wants speedrun.com to be completely independent from Twitch. And the only one who considers it a problem that Twitch partners get more privileges on speedrun.com than even the users who donated money!

I can't force this site to become a better place, all I can do is giving advice how to achieve that goal.

How is literally one icon a privilege?

It's definitely a very small thing, but it is a privilege nonetheless. Anyone else has to make a donation to get an icon at all Why should Twitch partners get anything more than a default account without making a donation? Just by being a Twitch partner, you don't contribute towards speedrun.com any more than every other user that hasn't donated. And if you donated as a Twitch partner, you still haven't contributed more than every other user who has done the same thing.

Count how many times you say "Twitch Partner" it's hilarious. Stop being salty.

I don't really understand why people can get this defensive for a group they're not even in, but that's just how it is. I think the extra icons make the site worse, but the majority apparently doesn't care and maybe even sees a benefit in them. Oh well, I'm not going to change anyone's mind here.

Whoa guys, they're not hardcoded and I'm not giving anyone "special treatment". It reads them from the Twitchemotes API and gives Twitch partners their Twitch sub icons. It's been like that since the site opened 3½ years ago.

No big deal.
