Hey everybody, it's my first time speedrunning this game, or any for that matter. Just wondering if there's any thing I should practice going into this or any resources I should be using to improve?

hello, he has a lot to know about the optimization for re4, at first you can change your input through the game folder, which optimizes the run, you also have the choice of viewfinder via the folder of the game that allows a better shoot for some person. There is also the LRT split that allows you to see the performance of your pc. Finally afterwards for optimization in the run I advise you to watch some run. sorry for somes faults, english is not my main language .

ps: if you play on consol, forget the advice it will be useless, just watch some run

The first things to ask are: 1) What category are you running? 2) What platform are you running on? 3) If it's Steam UHD, what frame rate?

The general advice I can give is find the top runs for w/e category on whichever platform you're running on, then just copy what they're doing. Depending on how old the runs are, some strats might be outdated and you might need to update them by just asking in the discord what the newer strats and optimizations are. I also recommend asking questions on why certain things are done.

Make save files on the various typewriters for whichever part you feel you need practice on specifically. Since you're a newcomer, I recommend making saves for the areas that typically give people trouble when starting out and practice them non-stop: Del Lago in 1-3, Cabin in 2-2, Garrador and Water Hall in 3-1, pretty much have a save to practice all of 4-1, Salazar statue room and elevator in 4-4 (and also Salazar skip if you're running on 30), Krauser in 5-3, and one for 5-4 since that's just a tough chapter overall.

There's not really any resources to use here besides maybe input files on PC if you want to change your keybindings around, though I highly recommend joining the discord to just ask questions in general on anything that isn't clear.

Mike gave some very good advice but I'd like to add a few things. Like Mike said, it would help to know what category you want to do but either way, I highly recommend at least starting with NG+ even if you actually want to do NG especially since it's your first speedgame. NG+ is very approachable and beginner friendly. Both categories are quite difficult at high levels but at entry level NG+ is far easier to learn as on NG bad mistakes usually will result in a death due to the limited resources. That said, if you're wanting to run NG, it's a good idea to run NG+ first at least for a little while just to get used to the game and route of the run and at that point learning the NG run will be much easier and less daunting.

The second thing I highly recommend (for either category) is doing segmented runs after you've learned the run. A segmented run is where you'd do the game 1 chapter at a time using saves and repeating each chapter over and over until you've gotten a time on it that you feel is the best of your ability. Seg runs are excellent for pushing your limits which will increase your maximum speed which in turn will also improve you average speed and make you better at the game overall. It will also show you a lot of different situations that will be thrown at you in different areas which is important as enemy behavior varies in most places in the game making the run pretty reaction based. I've been running this game for 3 years and have done segmented runs several times throughout that time and I can say that every time I have done a segmented run the end result was a significant increase in my skill level and game knowledge.

When you use flash granades and other things in your run to help you out. when you finish a game like beat it how do you get all that stuff back
