When I saw that my 1st place was beaten I quickly went to watch to see how they beat it. I immediately noticed that their time on hero select started at 27 seconds when mine started at 36 giving them a whole 9 second advantage. I went into game to find a setting to change it but to no avail. I then decided to just try to beat their record even with them having an advantage. It then dawned on me that the game starts when you first start loading in and you only then join the game once fully loaded. Becuase of this if you have a worse computer that loads in slower you get an advantage in this speedrun because the rules state that the time starts on hero select but the amount of time you have to wait there depends on how fast you load in.
I propose that the time the counter should start should either be moved to after hero select so at the start of the time you are stuck in spawn or even earlier like as soon as you hit start game. (I feel after hero select would be the most fair to everyone and have the least variability)
That sounds like a better idea, or have it how call of duty has their 25-30 kill challenges and start the timer on the first kill rather than at the start of the match
Changed it to be when the game actually starts, which also removes the flat wait time after selecting hero.
Do we have to redo our runs or just adjust the time on them to account for the rule change?
Huh. I readjusted the run time, and I got 59 seconds for the actual run. Gonna try to get a new one though, using the old one and beating it by a second feels kinda cheap, at least for me. ;)
With Overwatch 2 finally going live, this means that our Overwatch 1 leaderboards are all pretty much legacied. All new speedruns should now be submitted to the Overwatch 2 leaderboards, here:
