If I wanted to record a video to submit, I would want to get a capture card for the switch. But how could I transfer what I am playing onto OBS if my computer is out of reach of my tv? Just a general explanation of the whole process would be ideal
You need a capture card. If possible, use a internal one! Always!
I recommend elgato HD60 Pro since I didn't had many problems with it, there's also Avermedia and Razer if you prefer these.
They already know they need a capture card, they said it in their first sentence
I would want to get a capture card for the switch
What you’ll need is just a longer cable. If you’re using an external capture card then you’ll just want to buy a longer USB cable or an extender cable to make it reach.
If it’s an internal one, then just get a longer HDMI cable to go into the card. HDMI cables are easy to buy in long sizes.
I would recommend getting a second monitor and playing at your desk. The capture cards all offer HDMI through, so you can send it to OBS and a dedicated monitor at the same time.
A longer cable pretty much as the others have said. Likely set up for this would be Switch HDMI Out -> HDMI splitter -> TV and the other side -> Capture card.
If you TV has a HDMI passthrough (unlikely) then you could take the that HDMI output into the capture card.
Or reverse go into the capture card, and if that has an output put that back into the TV. That might induce delay though, so probably not he best option. If it is like the Elgato 60s, they are a passive passthrough though, so they are a reasonable option. Have a research for your own scenario with the cards.
