ive played many games over the years and want to get into speedrunning. looking for an action, rpg or indie to learn. preferably under 2 hours long and not super optimized. iwant to break ground with a new speedgame :)
Pick out some games you already own and like, then look up their leaderboards on here to get a sense for the run times.
You should totally try out Cat Quest II. It's an open world RPG my friend, Gumjaw, likes to speedrun. It is less than 20 CAD on Steam, but is also available for other consoles. Any% is about an hour in length, but the Cat Quest II boards and Category Extension boards feature both longer and shorter categories for you to try (eg. Lupus%, 100%, All Dungeons).
While I have never played Cat Quest II, I personally find speedruns of it very entertaining, and I'm positive that the community would love to help new players become familiar with the game and the speedrun routes/strats.
Here's a link to the game page: https://www.speedrun.com/cqii And here's a link to the game on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/914710/Cat_Quest_II/
okay will do, im looking at the leaderboards and the only active categorys i can find are from the most populars (mario zelda, etc) is there a seperate page for less popularly ran games? thx for the help :)
Just type the name of the game in the search function and see if it pops up.
Whatever you do, Do NOT Speedrun Celeste, it can be hell (Optimization Wise)
Take that from someone who does Speedrun Celeste
@SuporSpeedYT that's not really a great advice. If someone likes the game and wants to run it, there is no reason to discourage them from it. People can also set their own goals, no one has to be super optimal at first.
