100% Update

Just a quick update I'll leave up here for a week or 2 about the changes to 100% rules:

  1. The requirement for obtaining all the Purple chests has been removed due to the changes in the most recent update which makes those chests respawn just as the red one's do. The permanent items you can obtain from the Purple chests, such as the charms, heart pieces, etc., are still required.

  2. Scrolls are now required since they take up a permanent slot in your inventory, even when you have 0. This has been this way for awhile now, but I figured I would throw it in this post as well.

I recommend reading the rules carefully for this category so that you don't miss anything when attempting to do this run.

Does this update take into account the new warp into the Symphony of the Mask map accessible from a main story playthrough, allowing you to grab more hearts, items, recruit Skull Kid as a fifth character, defeat Twinrova & Dodongo, etc, and do the new Ganon fight without starting a dedicated Skull Kid file?

Gotta agree with I.M.Gibbon here. There are a number of changes in 1.4 that make especially 100% a very different category compared to what it was in 1.0.2-1.2:

  • 2 new A/X/B/Y items (Cape & Megaton Hammer)
  • 2 more instruments and corresponding dungeons (Bongos in Gerudo Ruins, Synth in Temple of Brainstorms)
  • 2 more collectable bottles (Deku Village minigame + Temple of Brainstorms; just don't pick up ToBS' bottle until after defeating Synthrova and your items are returned in order to guarantee it)
  • 1 more character to collect (Skull Kid)
  • All 6 masks for Skull Kid
  • The Medallion of Courage (green medal in a gold chest in the lobby of Gerudo Arena giving poison immunity)

And then, while we're at it, I'd argue that some of the things that are currently required in the category are a bit extraneous for both the runners and the verifiers, especially since the game doesn't have any sort of achievement tracking of some of the things that are being requested.

Here's some of the things I'd argue should be changed or removed:

  • Full map reveal/coloring, all Sheikah Stones activated, and All caves visited should be removed:
    • Granted, we're probably going to do that anyway in the course of a run in our searches for full item and heart collection. However, on top of trying to verify whether every Sheikah Stone was activated and every cave was entered, it's just tedious for both the runner & the verifiers to check for tiny checkmarks and minor coloration changes of the Sheikah Stones, especially since so many of the purple chests
    • Also, currently, if you unlock Skull Kid and then return to Present Hyrule, Save & Quit, and then load that save, Zelda's balcony (and the corresponding Sheikah Stone) will be removed.
    • Lastly, none of these have relevant achievements applied to them that also can't just be checked with an inventory check.
  • "Open all Blue Chests" should just be clarified to be "Collect the pre-infused daggers/shortswords", since Heart Pieces count towards reaching 16 containers anyway.
  • It's technically not mentioned to grab the 5 Overworld Mapping Charms (Telescope, Boss, Chest, Cave, Sheikah). This likely was accidentally removed as part of the "Purple chest" requirement's removal.
  • "Defeat all Story Bosses" should be changed and/or clarified. At the very least, it should require fighting all 6 instrument bosses, plus Octavo (verification of Octavo kill is the all-character Legendary Weapons). But, we should as a community decide which between Ganon or Skull Ganon is the canonical finish, or if we should consider requiring both...
    • I'm of the opinion it should be one or the other, otherwise we'll be reloading the save twice: once to get a second You Won, and once to start verification.
    • Since almost everyone besides Skull Kid and Octavo fights regular Ganon with dad-mode mechanics, I believe it should just be Ganon, but I also feel that it should be left to the runner to decide which Ganon to fight since they both give a You Won screen.

All in all, these changes would help shorten verification to just a complete inventory & character check after a Ganon kill of some sort, and also make the 100% requirements match a bit more closely with what achievements actually get tracked, those being Hale and Hearty (16 heart contianers), Expansive Repertoire (All A/X/B/Y items and upgrades; corollary leading to filling out the rest of the center area of the inventory including scrolls), and Eight Sharps (All 8* unique weapons in a single playthrough; corollary leading to base versions of each weapon, all 4 pre-infused daggers/shortswords, and all 6 Skull Kid masks [which in turn counts for another achievement: Master Angler]).

The only other thing to note is that the description of the inventory check should also note that the passive section should have one slot missing (which is where the Petal Trimmers go if doing a Symphony of the Mask run, but they don't show up in Story Mode).

(* Technically, it's 7 pickups since the Kokiri Sword & Jeweled Dagger count as one pickup in Future Hyrule Castle, but the game uses the term "8" for the achievement name and the text of the achievement.)

Verification Freeze lifted!

The verification freeze for Cadence of Hyrule is over! SRC have added the ability to enable/disable Run Comments on a game-level scale (rather than user-level), which I'll be setting to "Disabled" since I don't think they have notifications or enough moderation tools in order for us moderators to be
