Should keyboard inputs be allowed for EMU users?

Right. It would be better to have this discussion BEFORE someone makes a WR claim.

lucandor158 brings up a good point I did not think about for different emulators. I only tested the moonkicks on keyboard earlier using Bizhawk and the L+R inputs at same time was not disabled. When I just tested with Nestopia v1.4 the L+R inputs was disabled by default and I could not find anywhere to change this.

Russia

L+R/U+D inputs are disabled in Nestopia, FCEUX and set to "Priority" in BizHawk. And you can't bind several inputs to one key by default in any emulator afaik. By the way enabled L+R/U+D inputs can be easily recognized with on-screen inputs even in 30 fps.

If you're playing on emulator I'm not sure 30fps is acceptable for a WR claim.

Here is a resource for emu runners. If we do start to require video confirmation that a controller was used on run that have moonkicks. You don't have to buy a cam you can use your phone. You use a app called EpocCam. http://www.kinoni.com/ by installing the windows app with the sister app on your phone you can use your phone as a webcam using WiFi. I have done this and it works. I use my Iphone, windows 10 and OBS. The best part is it is free.

For now I have selected "Emulator runs hidden by default" due to the clear majority seeing a problem with the difference in input methods. I have also verified lucandor158's run.

I think the way most people are leaning is to keep emu and console runs together as long as a controller is used. I think making a separate category for keyboard inputs is the way to go. And to add the rule for emu users that use moonkicks in their run they need video proof of them using a controller for it not to be put into the keyboard inputs category.

would like to hear any thoughts against this proposition. to me it seems the fairest way to keep the leaderboards integrity.

United States

I agree that emu runs with controller and console runs should be kept together. I don't like how all emu runs are hidden just because of my run. As far as making another category for keyboard, I don't know if it is worth it if I am the only runner. I do like only needing a controller cam if there are moonkicks in the run since keyboard doesn't really help with anything else. As for what to do with my run, either creating a new category or just rejecting it would be fine with me. If more people wanted to run keyboard, then maybe it is worth creating a new category.

Any objections to a keyboard category, requiring a D-Pad for the main board?

Pennsylvania, USA

I would agree. D-pad required on the main board. I do also like Ouijawii's suggestion to have an all together different category for keyboards. Luc maybe the only runner to have a time now but this may encourage others to try the game on keyboard.

United States

I'm hearing no objections. Will try to set it up this week.

It's going to be a little slow, since I'm going to have to move over any emulator run without evidence submitted of a controller.

I'm not sure moving over old run is necessary. I think it is more important to enforce this rule now as people will know of the advantage. Also I believe there are only 2 emu runs besides Luc's that have moomkicks Hjurri and Tommyboy. For Hjurri's run at about 3:38 he adjusts his leg and you get a shot of the controller in his hand and at the end of Tommy boys run at 3:45 he lifts his had up and you see his controller. I don't believe the other emu runs have moonkicks or are far enough down the list that I don't feel necessary to move them. This is just my opinion. PresJPolk if you want I can help to research further into the emu run and look for use of moonkicks.

United States

Categories updated. One run moved. I'll leave the others for now since I'm going on a week long vacation. :)
