Enable “Global Hotkeys” in Livesplit. This will make it so that any key press you do registers in livesplit even if it’s not “in focus”. Just make sure if you’re using keyboard for the game that you don’t use the same keys for playing and controlling Livesplit

Unfortunately, similar to this thread, https://www.speedrun.com/streaming_recording_equipment/thread/i8y8k , there isn’t much you're going to find in that range. You could maybe find one of the cheaper brands in a refurbished state, but for that price range you’re either not going to get good quality equipment or you’re not going to find anything at all.

I would recommend saving up a little bit longer until you can get around the $100 price point. Then you can get something like a low end Avermedia or a Hauppauge. Feel free to poke around at used stuff, but as always, buying cheap right off the bat usually means you’ll have to buy again later if the cheaper/used model you got doesn’t last all that long.

As is standard with threads like these, I’ll echo the question I always have:

“What’s your budget?”

HDMI capture cards can vary in price from around $80 USD to approaching $200 USD, so what are you looking to spend? More expensive ones may come with additional support for higher quality video or may be internal PCI cards to minimize lag, so what you’re hoping to accomplish visually might also matter.

Console will (usually) never be on the same playing field as PC unless somehow the console version has an exclusive glitch to it (which is unlikely nowadays). Usually PC will always be faster because of reduced loading.

So, for PS4 games, you either need to find PS4 exclusives that didn’t come out on PC, or you can use the filters on the LB to only view runs that were done on PS4. This will filter out the PC runs and let you see what your competition looks like among others who have run the game on PS4.

From the rules of the game
Top 5 requires video proof. Best 3 cartridge submissions also require video proof.
You need to discuss all category ideas and requests with the current moderators (and ideally the community) of the game. They are the ones that make all decisions regarding those types of things. You can, and should, post this in the forums for the game, ideally with a run completed showing the category and it’s rules. Just note, there is no guarantee that the category will be accepted and created.

That’s a fine way to submit the video. You may not even have to go through the trouble of editing a LiveSplit timer unless the game explicitly requires one in its rules. If the rules don’t say anything about needing a timer (usually you don’t unless the game has specific requirements) then you can just use the YouTube video to submit. You can always ask a mod of the game too if you want to double check about the timer, but most times having video is enough

Twitch used to have a way for you to upload video files but they may have removed it from lack of use. But, if memory serves me, it was terrible and you’re better off using YouTube for any uploads.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs5 years ago

You need to ask the mods of the game to see if they have any rules regarding where video proof is hosted (or you can check the rules of the game too).
Banned users still get notifications for submitted runs
What exactly is the feedback here? Are asking why that’s the case? Are you suggesting it shouldn’t do that?

My understanding of a user being banned (someone correct me if I’m wrong) is that they can’t post in the forums (I’m not 100% sure if it stops them from submitting runs, I don’t remember), but they can still login and often times the bans can be lifted. So I see no reason why they shouldn’t get notified on a submitted run before they got banned. The ban doesn’t mean they can’t still use the site.

Mixer is a widely used platform, so I highly doubt that it’s a problem in their end unless they’re experiencing some downtime. If you’re looking for alternatives, you can try to stream on Twitch instead through the app. But I would suggest hard wiring your XBox instead of using it over WiFi if it’s doing that as that might be causing a lot of your issues with drops.

I personally don’t like to compare runs that use glitches to glitchless runs because often times they can be so drastically different that a comparison doesn’t seem fair. Runs that use glitches are fun and impressive to watch because they show off the limits the game can be pushed to and can often feature precise inputs and tricks that are impressive to watch people pull off with consistency. Glitchless runs on the other hand are impressive for completely different reasons. Those types of runs will usually find their time saves through extremely optimal movement or clever exploits of in-game mechanics (how the community defines “glitchless” makes that last point a sliding scale). In those runs, the impressiveness comes from seeing how much time can be saved or squeezed out of things that otherwise seem minimal (like slight reroutes to save a few seconds of walking).

Given that for extremely broken games there can be such a discrepancy in the categories, which one is more “fun” to watch really depends on what type of run you’re in the mood to watch.

Along with the above method, you can also run the game through an emulator and use TAS tools to slow down the game for extra precision when it comes to trying different things. A lot of glitches can start as TAS only, and from there they can develop into something that’s RTA viable as people begin to experiment with setups and other parts of the glitch depending on what it is.

Assuming my knowledge of autosplitters is correct (and assuming the RE2 one is built the same way as others), the autosplitter works by examining the game to know when to split for you. It’s only logical that it won’t work unless you’re running it on the same PC as the game. So, it will never do anything on the stream PC because the game isn’t running there - it’s running on the game PC.

You don't submit it to the site, you discuss it with the moderators and the community of the game you're running. They are the ones that decide what categories will be on their LBs. Before doing that, you should make sure you do a run of the proposed category because having a run to go along with your idea will be more substantial than just posing the idea without a run.

What proof is necessary for a game is up to the game’s mods/community so you will need to check with them. However, most games won’t accept runs without video unless they have different rules regarding slower times.

Also, that splits form field on the submission form is for a link if you’ve uploaded your splits to your splits.io account. That field isn’t usually required (again, check the rules or with the mods), so if you want to share your splits, just upload them to splits.io and paste the link there.

While the above answer is technically a good recommendation, it’s also very vague so let me elaborate a little more for you.

OBS will be good if you plan to capture your PS4 via a capture card or by using Remote Play. If you’re capturing the video that way, OBS is the best option to record and/or stream it. At that point you can use a timer program like Livesplit to keep track of your time and splits throughout the run.

If Remote Play won’t suffice because of slow internet or other issues and you don’t have the money for a capture card, your other option is to stream directly from the PS4 using the Twitch app. In that case, you can’t overlay a timer onto the stream since it’s coming from the app, so what you use to time the run at that point is up to you. You could still use livesplit on your computer, you could use your phone, or you could manually time the run after it’s been completed using the video you streamed.

Hopefully that clarifies things a bit for you.

Lol, no, you can’t send VHS tapes anymore for verification, this is not the SDA days. You’ll unfortunately need to invest in a capture card to get digital video of your runs so they can be viewed on a site like YouTube.

I checked the forum for the game and you already asked your question there. There is no need to make a post here as nobody here will be able to answer your question, only the mods of the game will be able to do that. Keep track of your post in the game’s forums to see what the mods say.
