I would say start with learning to Escape Midgar since no matter what category you learn, you are going to need to know that portion. By the time you get proficient with that you'll have a better idea of which category you'd like to complete.

Like Nihilist said generally its set up like. . . . SNES/NES to capture card, capture card to split cable, one split to TV one split to PC, Timer on the PC with a program like OBS running to record/ live stream.
When I'm not speedrunning, I'm typically at work, working out, playing Chess or playing CS:GO.

This update annoys me quite a bit, but it's not my Prime account anyways (I love my Mommy) so I can't complain too much about something I'm not paying for anyways. It's a clear push for Twitch to grab a little bit more money to pad their numbers. I hadn't considered jumping ship, since Twitch has been home for the better part of 5 years for me (viewing for 4-5 years and streaming on and off for 3) but if they keep nickle and dimeing everybody, then people will start looking elsewhere, myself included.
Young me (obviously) lacked any wisdom and didn't set goals to stay motivated. I'm glad I learned how to set goals and have a game plan, however it was learned from multiple failed endeavors over the years. Still, it's important to try to improve and learn everyday, and to say I'm wise now that I'm older would be showing a lack of wisdom.
I can relate to the anxiety thing, I used to be on meds for it, it can be a giant pain in the rear for everyone involved. Happy wife, happy life tho!
As for my love/hate relationships, I have some viewers that are regulars in my chat. Love having them around, as I respect and appreciate anybody taking time out of their day to watch me play games. There are a few however, that always plug their channels/projects multiple time a week. It gets to the extent sometimes that their friends (or them on alt. accounts) come into the chat to talk with each other about said projects! I would call them out on it, except they aren't new viewers looking for attention, but rather long time follows/contributors that maybe are talking out of harmless excitement and intrigue but coming off as self-promoters. Admittedly, a first world problem and I should probably just bring it up next time it happens.

I was wondering what game mod's do to catch cheaters submitting runs. I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world, so I require video (with sound) proof with of a run (which seems to be pretty typical) and I watch and re-time the runs with my timer to verify length. I keep my eye open for anything that looks/sounds out the ordinary. However, past that what options do I have to catch cheaters?
For instance, in the game I mod (Street Fighter II Gameboy) between every stage is a brief silence and black screen, which I suspect would be easy to splice. How would I go about investigating further into that?

Fruity Loops or Pro Tools are solid platforms if you're making your demo tape. You may want to lease a few beats too unless you're a good producer. For that, Soundclick is a good place to start. Good luck!
It's left open to interpretation for a reason @Jellyd0ts. It allows the Mods to decline troll/irrelevant games without needing a concrete reason. While I do think it should be more clearly stated that "more detailed notes=better chance at being accepted", I also believe those chosen to oversee the site should be able to just say "No, this isn't good enough" with no other reason.
I came here to put my personal best times all in one place. I stayed because I can almost achieve that, except for the Mega Man runs.
Then I realized we had a forum, so I started chitchatting here! Most of you guys are ok, so I spend most of my work day dealing with people and hitting refresh to see if there's any new game stuff to talk about. And to watch @komrade shitpost

Good luck on your runs and welcome aboard. I use a button on my controller to split, but my controller is USB making this function possible. Trial and error until you find what works for you!
