Hi all,

I did finish a run on the Amiga for Book One. Due to that is the floppy version of the game, it is different to the CD-ROM version.

• Most annoying is that you cant (or I dont know how) skip the text in the cutscenes, this adds a lot of minutes to the run.
• The walking speed seems to be much faster
• There are loading times between the screen transitions
• The Cave Section is different, iirc there is a fireberry bush missing so you can only reach the river of lava as a wisp You can check out the map here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/562667-the-legend-of-kyrandia-book-one/faqs/55827

So I just wanted to ask how we go on with the floppy version?

• Same Leaderboard ?
• New Category on the Leaderboard ?
• New Game added to the Kyrandia-Series ?

No we have plenty of room to improve the rules :) I also did not differ between the different factions and their starting position on the map like in Warlords 1 what also makes a difference how fast you can win. There is much stuff yet to be discussed.

Game difficulty yes it also an additional option in the future but this aligns with the factions mentioned above because unless we are just quite a few runners I did not want to blow up the leaderboard to much in the beginning. But who knows how things will progess.

What we also maybe consider is to disallow game reload to manipulate the RNG (not sure if this works in W2 but we banned it for W1 so you cant grind a ruin until you find dragons and stuff).

thanks for the suggestions. Yes the rules can of course be changed until it is fair enough. I was not sure about them because there was only me at the beginning running this game.

1. Yes I can change this rule to "Options select Beginners". I am overall not sure about the options maybe we can figure something out what suits running the game best.

2. Not sure about this: The loading times should be the same on every modern computer I assume so I can not imagine that there will be some heavy difference between the runs. Yes I was thinking about this too, but if you dont have time to study the pressure is on you right from the start so you have to make your decisions as fast as possible. I would suggest to stick to the current rule for that.

I will update the rules for Beginners.

Really looking forward for some runs from you, I was just setting up some benchmarks for this game I have no clue if they are really fast or not. (for example JoMama blasted my Isle of Sorcery Run)

If you like you can of course add me as Super Mod, I am also the mod of different other games/series on src so nothing new to me. Also there is the User Eino here on src he is an expert on Golden Axe maybe as additional option for you.

I did for fun a run of the first level on the C64 (which is way shorter then on the Amiga) and I dont want to grind the whole game (I hate the egypt level) at the moment, so I just wanna to know if you can please add IL runs as well and maybe seperate them by Systems. I completed a run for Golden Axe on the Amiga. So after Sega CD got added to the Leaderboard I was wondering if this is also possible for the Amiga verison as well? In general if the version differs to much I had to request the game again at src, not sure if this is also the case here. You can check out my run here:

Speedrunning Adventure games is great fun, but it can be tough to get into it. It requires a lot of practice and time to set up a decent time, 'cause one major mistake like missing an item or having bad rng can mess up the whole run, which can be frustrating.

So how do you get started? Of course you can go the hard way and start right away with the full game, but as mentioned before you have to put time and effort into learning all the mechanics, tricks, routes and skips. We have already provided you very detailed guides you can go through, but especially for starters this can be very overwhelming. In my own experience after, getting my first run verified I really got hooked to speedrunning, 'cause I accomplished something I always thought would be impossible, and now it's one of my favourite hobbies.

So if you are interested in starting speedrunning we recommend beginning with the offical Monkey Island Demo which has its own Leaderboard. In general your run will only take less then 5 minutes so it's perfect to get a feeling for this type of videogame. You learn all the basics of the SCUMM System, and after finishing it you feel way more prepared to run the full game.

To get the Demo to run you need the following Software:

• DosBox (it's free to download you can find it here: (https://www.dosbox.com/)
• The offical Monkey Island Demo (you can download it from the Resources-Section)

I provided a Guide in the Guide-Section on how to setup DosBox and getting the Demo to run and, of course, how to run the Demo itself.

We hope this will start your interest to join the always-fun world of Speedrunning and see you on the Leaderboard.

There are 3 different versions of the game I am aware of (at least for the Amiga)

I was about to submit a run for https://www.speedrun.com/The_Dig but I realized its again a game which is only moderated by El-Nino who has dissappeared for along time now. Can you please grant me Modrights for the game? Nobody of our Adventure Community knows where he is and more and more games he used to moderate are already changed the Moderator like for Loom, Indy3, ZakMcKracken etc. Thanks

okay since nobody was answering I just submitted my run an it was rejeted cause it only a leaderboard for NES. So it seems it will not be considered to add a leaderboard for other version then?

btw: Why not create a Leaderboard with speedup and one with no speedup? But its toally okay to stay on the same leaderboardas the others until more people get into this game.
