Looking forward to the whole week. =)
I just did several retimed again on my pc with the timer going and starting the timer on the first input before the first cutscene fires and stopping on the last input after it made contact with the boss for the kill seems to be a better point in which to stop the timer as that way visually the time would make more sense. so the animation for contact must finish in this way and this should remove any discrepancies. There was similar issues with the original Nier timing and it was settled to have it start after name input confirmation and end after you make the final save after the credit roll because of inconsistencies and the other fact that it gave a time stamped in game time that was timed RTA style. I got a 10:22 dead on from the last few times doing it till the animation made contact all other ways ended up being to inconsistent.
This also removes the need for us to have the rule set for having the timer onscreen for those that do not have the ability to do so.
Vulcaim and me both agree on timing the runs from the first input on the mission brief in which the first cutscene then fires which can be skipped. ( the avoid any load delay allow a brief pause on that screen while the game loads in the background about 10-15 seconds. ) The timer should end once the animation for the last hit makes contact in which the bosses death animation would fire before the last cutscene.
10:25 would be where the last cutscene fires if we do it from start of first cutscene to the start of the last cutscene, so that would be with first input but a bit after the last input since it takes about 3 seconds before the last scene fires from the last animation to finish.
Starting it at the moment you can hit to continue past the mission brief makes sense in most cases as it's the first actual input unless we all rather have it at the start of the first cutscene and then after the final hit kills the boss as the input delay from what is show seem to make it hard to gauge when the timer would stop doing it mid animation can cause discrepancies and I'm already seeing this.
git gud at life simple enough, on a serious note I'd like to be more on a schedule with life and things in general instead of going with the flow.
The picture is the official one from the Enix site wallpapers and its fine. If that's the case stop looking at porn and maybe not play the game if you have issues differentiating. The Categories are label as such by design choice and really does not matter as long as they are there to sort the boards. I will change them to better suit Taro and the game instead. % well now that remains a secret.
For the purpose of the demo it would not be worth it to do it like that as subcategories for that game were based mainly on the difficulty because of the Endings being a main decider for the routes. The full game when it comes out will most likely follow the original Nier's layout for the categories.
Will add a no oobs category if we feel its necessary as a misc, I feel allot of people will be using the height gain tricks and the skips that boarder the oobs. The only hard skip I have not managed to get myself is the bridge skip which saves several minutes from what I've seen.
Nier Automata's leaderboards should now be setup for the basics for those who have been running the game the past week you can submit your runs to the corresponding difficulty category. If you have suggestions please let me know, Some of you guys and gals have been putting more time into practice then I have so you may have more insight I may not have found out myself or from others.
Looking forward to getting my blackbox around March for the release of the full game, I hope everyone that has not played the previous title and has a ps3 or 360 maybe gets around to playing it. <3
Let's have a Happy NieR YeaR!
Diablo 2 would be interesting but its a very clunky/frustrating run to learn as of allot of rng can make it all that more challenging but can be all that more fun still. Generally pick a game you know well or would like to learn about and see if you like to run it doing some starter runs with just the knowledge you have obtained yourself and if you still like that game then move on to learning more from others and through more practice and experiment where possible because you never know.
Good luck with you running endeavors. And as far as cap cards I can suggest a Avermedia Live HD as its the card I'm using and it works great. I would avoid Elgato because of apparent issues with delay in video and or audio.
Dead rising 4 if you have an xbox 1.... because its around Christmas and its zombies... Else DIE HARD!
There is actually to many good games but it all boils down the preference and mine is of an acquired taste as I don't enjoy allot of the stuff many people do.
I voiced some info within the Discord but I'll try and sum up what I think could be done in the future, and most of these may cover both parties involved the organizers and or the runners themselves.
¤10-15 minutes should be allotted to the scheduling before each run to allow for things to be ready or resolved if there are issues so as to not have to much schedule bumping as allot of the issue with the marathon was scheduling times due to unforeseen tech issues with either party involved.
¤Runners should be making sure before their run approaches its time that they have at least test ran the setup and preformed checks on all of their stuff for themselves first as most of the foreseen issues were the runners lack of preparation in advance. I personally had everything checked out and adjusted as much as possible so that it all worked and all I had to do was hit the button to live. If other issues come up its not because you were not ready or were not prepared at that point its general tech issues and not wasted time.
¤It would be nice to have more staff able to be present and dedicated to particular areas during the marathons for shift work or whatever needs be. particularly their should be at least 2 people to help maintain an accurate schedule if things need to be adjusted, A main tech and and an assistant to help coordinate and maintain the broadcast of the marathon these people know what they need to be doing to get the runners live and keep everything going smoothly will things are going. working in pairs is most likely the best option so having 4 people or more that can take turns to keep things going I think is ideal. It would be nice to have a a few people to help coordinate the runners and get them ready more in advance and this is something they are focused on solely to keep things flowing so its easy in and out, There was in some cases more down time then normal where we would be waiting on runners to appear or to get ready.
I'm sure their is plenty more that I could say or that I may have missed. Keep in mind this is no means of me telling how It should happen just suggestions that I could think of from a double perspective. I felt from my experience as a runner it went well considering I made sure that up to that point things were good, I could have not been ready ahead of time before the check in 15 minutes before and then it may have taken longer to setup etc, or I may have gotten into more difficulties. Obviously you cannot predict everything but we can help reduce the many simple issues in advance to make things less complicated overall by just being prepared both runners and from coordination from staff. My experience as a viewer was decent for most of the marathon but for runs I was excited for it seemed that many of the runners were as I said unprepared and it easily caused others to lose interest or then just not liking whats coming up next. It would also be a good thing that during transitions where there is down time switching between runners or games that someone should be plugging info about whats going on either from the event and or what the next run or runner will be about/doing. Other things could be more talk about goals or incentives and to help build interest in them, as well as be catching up on donation messages if any. just having information and talking to the audience during intermissions etc will help keep interest and also maybe make them interested in checking out the next run or other areas of the event later on. basically just having music going on in the background is not a full proof way of holding interest or making time pass a bit smoother all the time.
Anyways I'd like to make sure this is clear again if not already this is just my own thoughts about how things could improve from what I've experienced or seen. Do with the information as you will but do not think that I'm telling you how to run your event. I was very happy to had been part of it and hopefully again in the future as I enjoyed my time and was nice to take time off work to do something not only for myself but to hopefully have contributed in someway to something bigger and be part of something that can become bigger.
I think you guys did good with how things were happening but as humans we always make mistakes or can improve as nothing ever is perfect just that much better each time. <3
Well thats nice to hear that starbreeze has at least one runner from them. =) Welcome and Good luck in your Speedrun endeavors.
get on the discord for the marathon to get it sorted out is my suggestion were active on there.
Okay thanks Naegleria I'll try and get in the discord to talk with you folk asap before hand this week in the middle of final preparations on my end I have a actual mic and mixer to set up once my custom desk/desk is finished tomorrow to nicely set all my pc or tvs on. =)
Schedule: https://horaro.org/prenasa/schedule
Time slot is fine for me, (If it needs to be moved because of shuffling as long as its in the days before monday I'm good to go. I have the time off from work to enjoy watching as well. ) looking forward to the Onechanbara run hopefully I'll be able to get some neat tricks working in time. Plus costume incentive would be nice for it =p
It is done by PAC when he can get around to it, The perks from donating are not there as an incentive but as a "thank you" for supporting the site.
