I think the point of "it isn't different enough to be worth it" should be between All Story Missions and Dupeless, not Dupeless and Any%. All Story Missions is a much better definition of Dupeless for various reasons (better name, in game justification, ease of understanding etc etc), but just has the unfortunate problem of requiring Zero+Heists, it's also not future proof (which I'll get into later). So for that reason I could be in favour of adding a Dupeless category (perhaps replacing ASM but that's a different discussion)

If any category is to be added though then I would like it to have certain things:

  1. Future Proofing I hate it when a glitch is named in a category name. "Any% Dupeless" is fine until another glitch with another name (instapass?!?) is found/implemented into the route which then causes another change to the whole category to be necessary. Even No OM0 or something like that is flawed because who knows what could be found in the future will the goal of specifically not changing OM0 to get around the rules of the category which then ruins it because of:

  2. The point/"soul" of the Category being obvious What people REALLY want in an "Any% Dupeless" category is "Any% but without all the glitches that make it different from what it used to be/make it hard/some variation of this" which again relates back to Future Proofing being an issue

To that end, I would really prefer if we discussed using a different name. Something like "Any% No Major Glitches" obviously fits but a few people get riled up at the idea of discussing WHAT IS A GLITCH/MAJOR GLITCH and I don't blame them, but from how I see it from other speedruns is you either use an in game justification for banning a glitch(es) (like: 120/70 Star from SM64, MST from OOT, 11 Exit from SMW, or All Story Missions here) OR if nothing in game fits what you need then you have to fall back onto Any% Glitchless/No Major Glitchess/Glitched (Glitchless from OOT, Glitched from Super Meat Boy (plz no), Any% Glitchless from Pokemon Red)

In any case I'm not too agasint adding a category with the purpose of "Any% but without all the glitches that make it different from what it used to be/make it hard/some variation of this"

[small]This is all just my opinion and not what I'm just going to do on my own because I'm a mod if others disagree despite what some others think and oh god having to add this fucking disclaimer is ridiculous[/small]

EDIT: In response to lel's pic of MH he said this when I called him out on stuff he previously said https://i.imgur.com/Xt8PXzo.png Also if the people who were here first don't mod then who does? There was no one else when we started. We wanted to add more mods but there isn't anyone suitable/wanting to. And I just don't know where to start with the democracy thing. When I have ever not been democratic, I've always tried so hard to do what everyone else wants, or ask everyone for their opinion. When you said that about me I just blocked you, I can't listen to you anymore.

Can we all just ignore lel I'm so sick of the constant contradictions and having to argue into a black hole but I have to respond to him here because if no one does then others might take him seriously and I can't block him here. His post has nothing to do with the thread but I can't delete it because if I do it's going to be called out as censorship.

I kinda went a did a whole bunch of other stuff and didn't really finalise anything here (did start moderating stuff though). The only extra thing I can think of for this is something about new accounts making new threads but I don't wanna just prevent people from asking stuff. Problem is we get loads of fresh accounts made to just troll/rage bait about crap all the time.

I dunno about this, seems kinda out there to accuse use of aimbotting. If he was going to aimbot then he probably would've done it in the same runs he uses a macro to aim at static enemies. If not then he also would have had to program an actual aimbot since I doubt any pre-existing ones work with SA/were made for SA.

To me it seems like he has near-infinite minigun ammo (unlike Any%) and is just waving his mouse around the vague area he knows the pre-scripted enemies are (this isn't CS:GO, this is vs scripted AI). You could probably find a series of 3 frames that he mouses over nothing first, an enemies' head the second and then nothing the third just as a coincidence.

I watched his gang territory section (where the enemies waves/pathing are more random and an aimbot would actually be beneficial) and it seems fine to me.

Honestly if someone is going to program their own aimbot that is just subtle enough to barely be noticeable to somewhat aim at pre-positioned enemies with a rapid fire instakill weapon to help in an easy mission at the end of a run to somehow help in getting "WR" in a 10+ y/o video game side category speedrun then... jesus

Second time this fresh account has made a rage bait post so I locked this.

Yes, most runners use a No-CD exe (we even have them in the resources section) however we don't promote piracy as all of the resources we provide require a legit version of the game to downgrade/modify to. A few people have asked for pirate links and we have always told them to just buy the damn game.

I edited it to say (IE: burglary completed for infinite sprint, cheat codes to spawn a Hydra but not cheat codes that have a persistent effect like invincibly or angry drivers)

But now I feel like a whole paragraph might be needed to explain it to some people... but are those people likely to even read the rules?

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this or if anyone will see it, but I thought I'd let you know about a bingo tool me and some others made for us to do balanced bingo speedrun races.

It's Minecraft Bingo DOT com and it's open source on github if you want to take a look at the source code. It was based off of OOT bingo, however I made a lot of generational/balancing changes to make it a lot better.

It was made some time ago and kept fairly up to date but I only just thought about posting it here.

I have a Logitech g600 mouse which has a numpad on the side which I can bind anything to, so I'm not sure how useful my settings are (who wants to use "4" for holding a call?)

Hello and welcome to the GTA:SA speedrunning community forums! [section=Useful Links]

• [big]Discord[/big] server of the community where the general discussions happen, if you have any vague/general questions make sure to ask them here! • The sidebar has a lot of useful stuff like [big]Resources, Guides[/big] and [big]Streams[/big] • [big]Twitch team[/big] of the community where you can find GTA speedrunners • [big]Leaderboards extensions[/big] (such as Los Santos% and other meme categories) • [big]List of allowed Mods and fixes[/big]

[section=Frequently Asked Questions] [big]Where can I find the rules for the leaderboards?[/big] • On the Leaderboard page there is a "View rules button" at the top. Pressing it gives you an annoyingly small window with the rules for the category you're looking at.

[big]Why do runs have to be done with the frame limiter on?[/big] • The game behaves differently at different FPSes and in order to play the game "as intended" and as similarly to everyone else all runs should be done with the same in-game frame limiter as provided by Rockstar. For more information refer to this lengthy and old explanation by Oasiz [small][small]Anyone know of a better explanation I could link?[/small][/small]

[big]Why should runs start from a fresh game start?[/big] • The game's RPG elements (CJ's stats) do not reset correctly between saves. Therefore its possible to to gain an advantage (intentionally or not) before the run has begun which is commonly classified as "New Game+". To counter this the game should be completely closed and re-opened between attempts. Currently this rule is only enforced for high tier runs as restarting the game repeatedly is pretty annoying, and lower tier runs are less likely to abuse this

[big]I want to learn runs, how do?[/big] • A lot of people start from watching streams or runs from the leaderboard to gain a general overview/ask general questions in chat. Beyond that there is the Guides section, @Hugo_One has a Beginners Guide Video Playlist, @KZ_FREW has an in progress Speedrun Commentary Videos and @tduva [small] (maybe others sorry if I don't credit you) [/small] has done a lot of in depth work on the SpeedDemosArchive Wiki. Unfortunately with such a large game a lot of these are out of date or not completely exhaustive in detail.

[big]What version of the game is best?[/big] • Almost all runners use the PC version of the game. There are several PC versions but the most commonly used and recommended is v1.01. The steam version(s) has some differences in technical details (some dupes work different/don't work) and other changes so you shouldn't use that. For help downgrading to v1.00 I recommend This video by Vadim M. After that you can use This dropbox folder to get the v1.01 EU (No-DVD) .exe and replace the v1.00 .exe in your game folder.

[big]I see a lot of people playing in 4:3, why?[/big] • People prefer 4:3 due to the lack of stretching the game does on HUD elements compared to 16:9, also using widescreen mode decreases vertical FoV. Check out this thread by @Jolzi for visual comparisons.

[small]If anyone has any amendments they would like to make to this post please let me know[/small]

Yeah @blacklev and @GReeN96 an "information for new runners" should be made with FAQ-y stuff in it. That much I could do on my own, but forum rules are a "what does everyone think/want" kinda thing :P

Hampshire, EnglandJoshimuz7 years ago

As noted by many of you this forum has really taken a dive recently. In the past few months the majority of threads have just been new accounts asking very basic questions or posting very basic/low effort content, and then a few people helping/tell them wrong thread, and then a few people sarcastically respond, and then a few people throw insults at each other and then sometimes the post gets 3 pages long of bullshit.

After some discussions on the community discord last night we came to the conclusion that in order for any meaningful moderation to be done we need some actual written rules. I'm currently reluctant to moderate anything due to the lack of clear agreed upon rules and basically not wanting to start policing/censoring the community based on my judgement alone.

So this thread is hopefully a discussion on what the rules should be. Obviously threads that are just the word "fuck" or spam bots should just be insta removed (and have been) but it's more what is the go to action (if any) for stuff like:

Necroing 7 month old shitty threads

Creating a new thread asking what mods are allowed 4 posts down from the stickied thread explaining what mods are allowed

Asking how to use 16 by 9 aspect ratios 1 year after a thread explaining everything to do with aspect ratios

Not knowing how to read Speedrun.com correctly

Category suggestions (thankfully we don't get LS% ones any more)

OP deleting their account and or all their posts so the thread makes no sense (a lot of these)

Locking threads after the answer was given

Discussions on questionable runs

Nice but ultimately pointless threads

Very basic and not SA related speedrunning questions

(I decided to stop there) And of course all the pointless bickering and vile thrown at each other. Hell should we do something about low effort meme posts/responses even, and try to keep the forum purely to the point and professional because of how it represents the community/stuff is documented forever. I really have no idea on how extreme to take this.

I tried looking at other leaderboard forums for any examples/guidance but I couldn't find any written rules anywhere (even the main Speedrun.com forums). What I did see were forums full of people asking the same noob questions despite having a thread on it already and everyone seemingly being fine with it? Oh and also the moderation tools are really limited (You can lock or sticky threads, and delete individual posts. That's it) so try to keep this in mind when suggesting rules.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd go

(oh yeah and we're discussing adding new mod(s) but that's a whole other mess)

(oh yeah #2 I'm going to actually moderate this thread to keep it on topic shocked emoji)

Leave the ingame sensitivity at default, and then adjust your mouse DPI until Y sensitivity is correct. Then adjust the ingame sens until your X matches your Y.

Basically, the in game sens only changes X axis. I personally have the in game sens at default and only adjust my mouse DPI.

EDIT: And yeah what blacklev said, just adding features isn't how speedrunning works :P

When you submit your run you can select PS4 as the platform. It's an officially released version so it's allowed.

Honestly I don't lock these threads because I enjoy watching you all have a massive melt down in every single one thus making every single one a problem because everyone posts to it past the first corrective message. The other mods have their own reasons too I guess. Powdinet said everything I wanted to say and better before I could post it.

EDIT: I guess I've enjoyed myself enough, I'll lock this now and eagerly await the next self-defeating complaints about incorrect thread/spam.

Hampshire, EnglandJoshimuz7 years ago

Just as a heads up, the new theme (which now makes SA match a bit better with 3 and VC leaderboards) was made by Hoxxy and added by me.

If anyone has any complains/improvements then go ahead here I guess. Since we didn't really have any theme before (other than the favicon) I went ahead and added it, but I did keep the previous colour settings backuped up just in case.

k thx bye

As was discussed on discord:

[1:34 PM] Joshimuz: Someome has already submitted runs with that mod and I haven't accepted/rejected them yet [1:35 PM] Joshimuz: But I'm not sure why we need it, it's nice I guess but eh [1:37 PM] Powdinet: there is no reason to allow it because timer starts when you skip the first cutscene and that mod start when you start the mission [1:37 PM] Powdinet: unless you change the timing rules for ILs [1:40 PM] Anti: team real time [1:40 PM] Anti: remove IGT from existence [1:44 PM] PowerSlaveAlf: What powdi said, besides, starting the timer on the same frame you skip the cutscene is literally free [1:45 PM] PowerSlaveAlf: and you don't have to end it, you can just look at the video with the timer on screen

Good morning. I'm finally home from being out all of yesterday.

I'm locking the thread, naturally, since this has gotten completely out of hand.

To clarify coz the only post I'm reading properly is Crook's above mine (it was at the time of posting anyway), I had no part in the allowing/disallowing of mods (from what I remember). Quite frankly if I didn't give a shit about anyone else's opinions I'd ban every single mod to avoid any of this bullshit and to keep in line with 90% of all other speedrunning. None of them are necessary imo, I struggled with mouse issues for years until I found a solution that didn't require a mod (just keep a controller plugged in).

Over the next week everyone should chill out, try alternatives to mods you "need" to use and talk about your results. But I want to know about why people feel both Dinput AND GInput are necessary/are not necessary. Hell even the windowed d3d9.dll mod doesn't seem needed if alternatives like dxwnd, d3dwindower and 3DAnalyze exist. (I'm getting this list from https://www.speedrun.com/gtasa/thread/ar4sg)

(I just released this post came across as "fuck mods and fuck you" but I'm just mad shit blew up, if there are actual legitimate reasons for keeping any of the allowed mods then obviously we should, but this thread didn't have any back and forth discussion from what I read, just people shouting at each other)
