Hello all,
DoritoBreath's run showed that the Atari version has a small quirk that I dont think is in the Arcade version. Namely: It is possible to hit the point limit in such a way that the point total is not immediately on the screen (at the end of a level warp)
For the purposes of clarity and ease of review, the rule on this is going to be that timer ends when the Score Total is visible on screen. If you find a way to get 50k sooner than the end of level warp, more the better on the timesave. I am looking frame by frame, so I will take the time of the first frame the total is visible.
If people disagree with this, please chime in.
Is there a specific reason for the 1CC requirement? Seems like it cuts down on the number of people wanting to run this game (myself included)
Those reasons make sense, the main reason I prefer the point count visible rollover is because its much easier to determine the exact frame when someone is not using the Autosplitter, and I dont want to make the Autosplitter mandatory. Otherwise (I think) I have to rely on the placement sound / best guess it when the tile has been placed if not autosplitting.
Also just so everyone is filled in on the current timing methodology I use to determine times:
I watch your YouTube video, and I use the period and comma buttons to advance to the exact frame that the number 1 and number 2000 appear in the top right. Then I right click the video, copy debug info, and look at the "cmt" value which is the current timestamp down to the MS. Then a little bit of math to see how much between them, and that determines final time.
Sorry all but I think High Score categories are not allowed per SRC rules.
There is a little bit of consternation with the AutoSplit also, looking into what to do about it. Essentially the Auto Splitter stops the time when you reach 2000 points, however its when the points are Earned, rather than tallied over. So far Ive been counting the end time as when the 2000 point rolls over and is displayed in the top right. Depending on how many points the last tile is worth, this can actually be a substantial time difference.
Wanted to see what the community thought about matters. To me the 2k Points display was an additional verification against cheating, but that idea might just be silly.
Both items are good ideas. I had planned to add MS when we got down to the real "one second difference" times, I just didnt expect it to happen this fast :).
Also going to add requirement to have LiveSplit up on screen during the run. And recommend people use the Auto Splitter (side note: Thank you Endunry for adding the Auto splitter!, you rock!)
That seems very reasonable. For example, I have no idea if there is a 2nd loop on the Switch or PS1 version of the game. Ive only done the Arcade version. Thank you for taking a look!
Hello,
This game has a 2nd Loop after which you reach the true Game Over. I was wondering if we could get a 2 Loop subcategory for Arcade?
Video of a run my arcade partner and I did of the 2 Loop:
Thank you!
Howdy all, just wanted to comment that Terminator Salvation (Arcade) has been added to the site: https://www.speedrun.com/Terminator_Salvation_Arcade
Currently able to emulate in TeknoParrot, hope to see some people there :)
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to give other runners a heads up on this game about a technical issue. The only emulator that is emulating this game (to my knowledge) is TeknoParrot. Unfortunately the game speed runs in line with the frame limit of the monitor. I bet you can see where this is going:
If you are going to play this game you need to set your monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ
If you do not do this the game will run at bizarre fast speed. Not only that but the end game timer which is used for IGT counts either faster, or at the correct pace for the faster frame rate (not sure which it is really), but either way it makes beating any records almost impossible.
Hello everyone,

An example of a flawed run with 144 HZ refresh rate is here:
First, thank you for all the excellent information and input, I appreciate it.
In regards to the 10 and 25 level categories: I wanted to give people the ability to play "less" than the full game. Sometimes people just want to play a little intro to the game to get started, and I wanted to encourage that. 10 and 25 represent "start" and "half way" in my mind. With the extra details and levels you commented on, this makes less sense I will admit.
The Timer ending on Nebula Credit Screen Appearing is to give streamers and people running things with LiveSplit up an easier time stopping the time at the correct moment. I used to do "Final Hit" style endings but had issues with some SCHMUP game community members having trouble during the confusion and gameplay in the moment.
At the time of the first run I wasnt aware of the extra 50 levels, a YouTube commenter actually let me know there was more to be done. Ive never heard of the Playstation version, mainly because I pretty much exclusively run Arcade games.
Changes:
-
Added Arcade and Playstation top level categories
-
Added Level 1-50 and 50-100 to Arcade category
-
Added Level 1-100 and 1-100 Extra to Playstation category
-
Added 1P and 2P varieties of subcategories
-
Updated rules to be more clear about timer start and timer end
All your change ideas made good sense. Please let me know if you have any more!
According to guides:
"Before the start of a race, pull both throttles fully back to MIN. At the very moment Fode & Beed (announcer) shout "GO", slam both levers fully forward to MAX! When done successfully the screen blurs and your pod flies off the starting line, accelerating rapidly."
However, I have been unable to determine a set of button combinations in Demul to accomplish this. If anyone in the community figures it out, it would be a great help to getting faster times!
According to www.segaarcade.com and a very old gamefaqs guide, Gasgano is released after the machine has registered 700 games (?!) and Ben becomes available after the Boonta Classic course has been cleared 50 times.
I will be attempting to do this (atleast with Ben) to verify. Demul began experiencing an Error 7 that required me to clear the swracer sram and eeprom to get it working again, which would clear any of the wins Id recorded previously. If it works I will release an unlocked eeprom and sram file in the Files section.
Hello Boss,
Played through this one last night and was horrified to see myself +10 mins behind your record! When I looked closer it seems like the map of the missions indicates different tiers of ending:
You can tap out at 4, 5, or 6 missions, and I had done a 6 missioner. Today HighWarlordJC and I did a 4 mission finish and it had a different ending.
I was wondering if you thought it might be a good idea to put in 4, 5, 6 mission sub-categories for this?
Thank you for taking a look.
This game seems to be an overlap of https://www.speedrun.com/sagaia_ac_ver2 or is there a difference?
Thank you
So the wiki and various youtube videos indicate there are two other racers: Gasgano and Ben Quadinaros.
However in attempting to emulate with Demul Ive been unable to determine how to utilize them. If anyone figures it out or knows the answer, please comment here!
Thats fair, if the community doesnt see the need for the categories then I dont claim to know enough about the game to super advocate for it.
As to "Why coop?", because I find games are more fun when played with a friend. I find it gives new life to some of these games which were not made as a coop experience from a design perspective.
I appreciate you taking the time to look and respond, we are definitely beginners and the building chain guides Ive looked up so far should definitely help with a variety of these type of games we are playing. Thank you!
Hello,
I recently did a run of the Arcade version of this game () and couldnt help but notice the game is VERY different from the XBox and PS versions of the game.
Would it be possible to have platform specific subcategories?
Thank you
