usually we use keypads - keyboards or mices with programmable keys (so that would depend on the hardware you use), technically you could also write a script and activate it with a key bind but thats way more work and than the first solution

achatina are tameable

ovis have 5 spawn areas on 2 of them i found 1 ovis (top left and green obelisk)

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

you can see how he enters the command its just very fast.

it is ok to use a macro for that (<key for open console> + <summon artifact crate> + <enter>)

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

which run are you reffering to?

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

keep in mind artifact spawning is only allowed for easy category and only at the artifact location

dont think its that easy since your loading time isn't always the same especially if milliseconds have an effect on your spawn

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

wouldnt help cause you need to spawn at the exact same time to get comparable results.

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

yeah but then you would also need to macro everything until you spawned

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

thats what i already know, the question is what kind of rng does ark use. if we know that maybe we can manipulate the rng in the game more precisely

so when i was running CI and Genesis Moeder (yeah the runs with wrong dino count) i discovered something weird during the many hours of spawn grinding.

sometimes i could get the same spawn points in a short amount of time (like 3-5 times the exact same useless spawn that forces you to instantly restart the run, but also the really good ones which you want to have).

after around 15min it changed to another set of spawns, which resulted in a spawn grind of 30min with not a single usefull spawn.

since i had some times the good spawns in a row i also realized that these runs (especially at the beginning) are not identical but feel the same as the other ones (same dinos in an area)

so i tried the same on valguero and scorched earth, on scorched earth i was able to get the same spawn point multiple times and the run felt the same until i fked it up (same kind of dinos in gatekeeper cave at the same positions, not exactly the same position but the same area), on valguero i was able to get deinonychus eggs to spawn at the same area (exactly the same nest position), the run felt different but i also used slomo for day 4 so i think that changed the feeling.

here is what i think, if you start a new map, the game uses the current date and time for spawn point and dinos in an area.

how ever im far away from fully understanding how it works, so any information would be appreciated.

here is a poll: https://linkto.run/p/06942JDD

keep in mind the poll is only for information and does not guarantee that the rules are being adjusted to the results of the poll!

dinos listed as "untameable" (https://ark.fandom.com/wiki/Taming):

  • should be removed from the QoB-List.

for temporary tames:

  • i can understand why they are not listed (btw on Extinction all titans are missing also), they force the runner to finish them as the last tame
  • proposal: a poll if temp tames should be added to the QoB-List or not

impossible tames (tameable but not on this map):

  • proposal 1: remove them from the QoB-List for this map.
  • proposal 2: crossark is allowed, you can travel to another ARK and get your taming resources

give me a list of the "problematic" dinos for CI and I will check it.

Basilisk is also impossible (no magmasaur / rock drake eggs on CI)

hey I thought about adding a category that is easier to run than default and also more "useful" for the entire ARK-Community than our side categories like easy. Don't get me wrong these categories are fun but they are a totally different game and for the average ARK-player they aren't useful.

most players simply want to know:

  • how to tame a specific dino (already covered mostly with QoB)
  • how to get the artifacts (new category tomb raider)
  • how to beat the boss

now how tomb raider could work i thought about 2 difficulties (default and dinoless), the settings on both difficulties are default (with map marker and dmg indicator)

objective: -at the start of the run you need to set a base spot (run ends if all artifacts are in the inventory of a structure (any storage box, smithy, fabricator, etc.) -get all artifacts of the map (artifact crate spawning is allowed at the artifact location)

default: you are allowed to use everything the map provides dinoless: taming dinos is banned

what you really want to say is: "remove Mavericks run from the leaderboard"

done

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

you can do 2 player runs if you use a dedicated server, for nonded tether must be infinity otherwise you can exploit the teleports.

other possible solutions:

  • consoles get their own leaderboard separated from PCs
  • if you get teleported by tether the run is instantly invalid (no fun for everyone, definitely not recommended by me)
Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

simple answer: you don't

detailed answer: you can't or better your ps4 would not be able to handle that. Tether means how far away you can go away from the host, every player has a render or better an action radius around himself (don't know how big the radius is and it's not important), everything outside that radius is in stasis, everything inside this radius is "active" dinos move, attack, spawn, die in that radius (all this stuff needs to be calculated from the host machine). So if you have another player on the map you have in worst case 2 circles (doubled the calculation). Tether reduces this by limiting the distance to the host (the "action"-area is increased but limited cause the 2 circles are overlapping). Normally you don't use these infinity Tether-Rates on non dedicated servers, cause it would melt your CPU. Keep in mind 2 players wouldn't be to bad for a console but if someone decides to create a nonded server with 10+ player and high tether rates. One more thing consoles ALWAYS have older hardware parts than PCs.

edit: "The problem is, neither of us have a second PS4 to run the server on..." - If you use a separate machine it's a dedicated server.

what i am really interested in is the exact position of the sleeping bag (use orbit cam to show it), cause i think the position of the sleeping bag is very important to perform this method

Be_A_Maverick4 years ago

i did watch the run and she wrote in the description of the run the usage of ghost (it wasn't clear out of the description where she used the ghost commands), so i thought in both cases she used ghost (my fault). I didn't wrote about ice cave cause the ghost usage there is definitely discuss able and the situation in tek cave looked much more suspicious in my eyes.

"as for it wasn't seen that she used the command" if you macro commands (which some already did in previous runs to spawn artifacts) you can use commands without showing the command, if you tweak your macro more the console won't show up at all.

now back to the meshing / ghosting in ice cave. as far as i know no one ever used a meshing method during a run (but i didn't watched every run on the leaderboards so maybe i missed that). here is my problem with meshing at all. first meshing is totally not intended by wildcard so you can not expect to work perfect, more so you are intentionally breaking the games boundries.

next i would like to see how to actually perform this method at this spot (where to place the sleeping bag exactly and what it should look like if you are mesh spawning), after that i will do some testings myself at this spot.

how ever for meshing over all i would say: high risk high reward
