Test mode

Hey guys, I've been interested in speedruning this game for a while, but something has been holding me back. When I first became interested in this game's speedrun, I looked for glitches online. I found this video: The guy is talking about something he calls "test mode" which gives him the strongest scary face right from the start. I haven't gotten it to work, but this would eliminate cookie collecting. I'm not sure if the video is fake, but maybe you guys will find something.

Heya, welcome. Glad to see you're interested and I'd be pleased if you do end up doing a run!

What system are you using, out of curiosity? I tried it 3-4 times on Gamecube, but didn't get it to work either. If you're Gamecube too, maybe it's PS2 exclusive? It does look pretty reliable the way they did it, though, so hm... If someone can replicate it (especially if it's on Gamecube), I'd be glad to try it.

I do remember encountering something similar playing this game when I was younger, when I started a new file with a similar name and I got Brave Faces I hadn't had otherwise, and this GameFAQs guide seems to encourage that: https://www.gamefaqs.com/gamecube/914784-piglets-big-game/faqs/27619. Didn't figure out how to replicate it, but I could try harder.

TL;DR, I couldn't do it on my Gamecube, but if anyone else wants to try, go for it! This would be great if we can get it and get it consistently

I was using a game cube copy played on a wii console. No luck. I'm really confused by it took the guy two tries to get it in the video, what could be changing in between attempts?

I'll try asking in the comments section, see if there's anything we might have missed besides the version

I think the test mode possibly being ps2 exclusive would make sense, but I did see the comment about it working on gamecube emu... very odd. Regardless, I just ordered a ps2 version disc on amazon to do some testing.

Alright, my ps2 copy came in and I did some testing. I tried the "test" file name using a memory card , as well as without a memory card but both were a bust. It really doesn't make sense...

Weird. Not sure what to make of this, if you tried multiple times

Also, apparently ScionxB2's in the same boat. They haven't been able to reproduce it since I asked them for more details. Not sure what to make of that, but it seems this remains a mystery for now.

Hey guys,

maybe I can help you out as I still own a PS2 version of this childhood game. But the following information are "some-years-old-memories". So, treat with caution. I set some theories. As a child, I was addicted to this game. I surely beat this game 15 times because I just loved it. When I finished the game, I started a new profile with the same name and overwrited the old one (so, I only had one profile). The video by ScionxB2 looks familiar to me. Once I started a new game and entered Poo's dream, I instantly had all 1235 cookies (can't remember 0 cookies like in the video and for some reason, I also have the number 240 in mind). I also kept in mind that I could only buy the faces in even levels (Roo, Eeyore, Tigger) because of the evil speaking door. Or it's like in the video that the machine is empty in uneven levels and with Piglet inside in even levels (As there are two machines in even levels, you see Piglet's back in the cheaper machine and his next brave face in the more expensive, maybe). I don't know anymore whether I got the bravest face earlier in this game, but I can confirm that the machines were once empty or with Piglet's back or the next brave face. I also don't know if I had to buy the faces for 0 cookies. Can't remember that the amount of cookies has changed when you open the map. Well, you see, lots of memories and thoughts. As I experienced that one time, I agree with Corvus that this is a remaining mystery which is hard to replicate. But if I managed to help you with my thoughts, I really would like to know :) (I hope, you understand my English^^)

Oh, yeah, that is helpfu in the sense of knowing if we can repeat stuff. I mean, I remember accidentally doing something with that on the GameCube version where I suddenly saw the 8th Brave Face when I shouldn't or something. Admittedly my only thing backing that up until now was one the things in this walk through' FAQ: https://www.gamefaqs.com/gamecube/914784-piglets-big-game/faqs/27619

Oh, update! He found out how to do it reliably! I'm going to see if I can't use this.
