Mata Nui Online Game *UPDATE* guide (any%)
Updated 3 years ago by MegaAntMan

This is just a guide to explain whats new to the run. If you are new to running this game, I suggest you check out the any% guide by Derek MK. Afterwards, check out this guide just to see what else is new for the run.

HEWKII GLITCH: This is a glitch that isn't anything too special because it only saves about half a second, but there's no reason not to use it. It's pretty simple. When you receive the Kohlii ball, you're supposed to give it to Onewa. However, after collecting the kohlii ball, you can just turn around, go into Hewkii's hut and give it to him. Because this is a glitch, you can't just put the kohlii ball up to Hewkii's face like other characters in the game. Instead you want to give it to the bugs above his head. Once done, Hewkii will proceed to talk with Onewa's dialogue. After he's finished, you are given the same options of dialogue from Onewa's dialogue. Click on "goodbye", and you will warp to Onewa's hut. It is unknown how this glitch works, but it essentially save two clicks, and I would consider it easier than giving it to Onewa anyway, considering Onewa's "hitbox" is kind of off center.

PROSPECTOR SKIP: When you head into Onu-Koro to collect the letter from the prospector, you can actually skip his second dialogue. When you click on "I know an astrologer", you receive the letter immediately, and get a two line long dialogue. However, as the dialogue options go down, you can quickly hit "goodbye", and the game will skip his two line long dialogue and instead will be replaced by "goodbye", which is much shorter. The only problem with this glitch is it's pretty hard to pull off. Here's how I would suggest you try it. Take a second to set up by placing the mouse as low to the dialogue as you can and right next to the "goodbye" option (don't take too long otherwise you won't save much time). Then, the moment you click on "I know an astrologer", quickly move the mouse right, hit "goodbye", and then hopefully you will get the skip. This skip is a bit difficult, but it saves a good 2-3 seconds. Just remember, the trick is to go low.

NO CRAB: This is pretty simple, just don't ride the crab. Instead, run through Onu-Koro. It actually saves a lot more time than riding the crab. However, if you don't ride the crab, you can't flute buffer. Thankfully, there's an alternative. First time you run through Onu-Koro, you don't have the flute, so don't worry. The second time, you can flute buffer as you ride down and up the elevator. Remember, it doesn't matter when you hit the notes, just don't hit the last one. The third time is the only time you won't flute buffer. It is still faster to run through Onu-Koro, but if you aren't very good at flutes, it may be better to ride the crab and flute buffer. The last time through Onu-Koro is the same as the second run through. The flute buffer is quite a bit harder when running through Onu-Koro than doing so on the crab, but it pays off much more. This is nearly 20 seconds faster than riding the crab (6 seconds each excpet for the third time through).

SOFTLOCK THEORY: I kinda just felt like putting this up here, but I believe the softlock from the Turaga (and the astrologer) depend on when you hand the items to them. So if you're really tired of getting softlocked all the time, try handing items after the full dialogue appears. This is just a theory, so feel free to prove this wrong.

NEW MATORAN ROUTE: In the original route, you would pick up Tamaru after picking up Kopeke. However, instead of picking up Tamaru, go to Po-Koro and pick up Hafu. Then proceed to pick up Taipu. Now, normally after picking up Taipu, you would run to the first open area in Le-Koro to finish the flute. However, since Tamaru hasn't been picked up yet, just run through Le-Koro and pick up Tamaru. Since this saves a flute and some clicking optimizations, this is faster than the original route by more than 20 seconds. Also, when you get to the section where you need the Matoran to progress to Kini-Nui, you now only need to click left once for each selection of Matoran, from Maku to Kopeke (how convenient!).

A LIST OF RAHI:

After running this game a lot, I've essentially figured out all the possible rahi patterns.

Nui Rama: Yellow bug rahi Nui Jaga: Purple scorpian rahi Tarakava: Blue water rahi Muaka: Yellow bear rahi

Here are the possible pattern:

Fight 1: 1 Nui Rama

Fight 2: 4 Nui Rama; 2 Nui Rama, 1 Tarakava; 1 Nui Jaga, 1 Tarakava; 2 Nui Jaga

Fight 3: 1 Nui Rama, 1 Nui Jaga, 1 Tarakava; 2 Nui Rama, 1 Nui Jaga; 2 Tarakava; 1 Muaka

Fight 4: 2 Muaka; 1 Muaka, 1 Tarakava; 1 Muaka, 1 Nui Jaga; 1 Muaka, 1 Nui Rama

Unfortunately, you can softlock on any run no matter what. So, with this projection, the best possible pattern is 1 Nui Rama; 2 Nui Jaga; 1 Muaka; 1 Muaka, 1 Nui Rama (think of it like 1,2,1,2).

That's all that's new. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me by discord, or by speedrun.com itself. Good luck on the runs!
