Beating Kronika on Very Hard (Scorpion)
Updated 4 years ago by Tenka

This is an evolution of the Noob Saibot strategy that "should" cater for characters with a shorter range uppercut. It mostly covers the same core strats though:

  1. Hold block and tapping down, let Kronika come towards you.
  2. Wait for her to move over to you and cast either an Air Ball or a Bubble and uppercut to counter her mid-cast animation.
  3. Jump over towards her and jump kick her. She will block you (if she doesn't, great! free damage, but keep doing it until she does). Repeatedly do this until you are roughly jump kicking above her head. This should have closed the distance enough so that a standard short range uppercut should hit. Then go to 1.
  4. There may be instances where you get stuck with her casting bubble outside uppercut range. Specifically with scorpion you can do a Demon Dash to hit her, knock her outside the bubble (to prevent her from regaining health), and be in range for 1 and 2 to work. If trying this strat on other characters it may be a good idea to investigate what moves you can use to close the range in those instances. Otherwise jump kicking her out of the bubble should still work as well.

Additional notes (copied from the Noob Saibot page, still relevant):

  • The reason for tapping down while holding block is it seems to reduce the chance of her specifically doing the pattern of "wait and then Blue splash attack". If she does do it, she should do it quickly which will mean you will easily block it. Taking this pattern out of the equation makes counter uppercutting in step 2 much easier and much more consistent.

  • During the 3rd phase of her boss fight she may slip in a "time beam ball" instead of the usual "4 shot air ball". You need to be ready for it. You can tell its one of those if the 4 shots don't come out immediately. When this happens do repeat jump kicks towards her while trying to time them so you're in the air when the beam comes flying through. Alternatively, if you have enough HP to take the damage you can hold crouch and block.

  • Also during the 3rd phase she's going to throw rocks instead of doing the ball/bubble very often. You want to time your uppercuts slightly earlier to hit her without taking damage, however if you've done everything right before phase 3 you should have way more health than her which means you can trade hits safely with uppercuts vs rocks (both get hit at the same time). Often she goes into a rock throwing loops and you can progress the fight really quick by trading during these moments provided u entered phase 3 with at least around 50% hp.

  • It may be possible to use some sort of combo instead of using uppercut. Unfortunately since a lot of moves have their special properties negated against Kronika, a lot of them don't do much damage. Most often an uppercut is just better. There may be something better out there though, feel free to experiment.
