It definitely has enough to warrant its own category, since we're so reliant on the tanuki leaf it'd be like playing a completely different game, just a matter of if enough people would be interested. If it does become something official I might try it myself.
This might be a good time to consider a Category Extensions board, as for a while a few people also ran "Soflock%", and this isn't really documented anywhere except maybe in some Google Doc.
I'm not sure if further dividing the board is a good idea when there's hardly anyone running the game. Plus, the glitches in this game don't make a massive difference in how the game is played - the only major glitch at the moment is tornado clipping, which only affects two levels in certain parts, the rest is exactly the same. Not sure if this slight difference would really warrant a category split, but I'll leave that to the mods to decide.

It's recently been decided on that all runs should require video proof (mods should put that in the rules to reflect that change...), but you don't need a capture card at all! Although it's a bit of a pain to figure out a working setup, it's also fine to point a webcam or phone at your 3DS to get video footage - as long as mods can roughly tell what's going on, it'll be more than enough!

There's no video, no comment and the runner doesn't seem to have a profile here either. Essentially there is nothing that indicates this run ever happened in the eyes of a normal person, and as someone who's interested in picking this game up, having some material to start learning from would be extremely helpful. Is there anywhere this run is available to watch or just to get in touch with the runner?
Spent the last two days routing a potential 100% category for this game for fun. Goal is to obviously get all 66 lotus shards in the game. The main part that makes this interesting is the coin routing, since the required amount to total amount ratio highly varies from level to level. Would be nice to have this here as a category as well, cheers c:

Good to see Any% has gotten the split, but what about All Checkpoints? It's the same idea of going to L1 and die, so having Any% get a split over this but not All CPs would be stupid. Please add that, thanks.
While this would be an interesting challenge, I'm very unsure about this. Since the 5-2 trick is apparently ridiculously difficult, this could turn a lot of people away from the category, making that singular spot the big run decider. But if we allow P-winging, we could just skip any level that would be very tedious to do (at the cost of having to grind for extra lives without coins, that is), and that would really take a lot of the fun out of the category. Maybe if we can find a consistent setup for the coin in 5-2 or we allow P-winging for that level only. It'd still be a very niche category that hardly anyone would run probably, but in the end the mods decide, so we'll see what they think.

Clicking Level 1 but immediately warping to Level 4 is basically just as if you were starting on Level 4. You never load the first level. That's not how this works.
Yeah, it seems fixed now, run finally went through.
So since yesterday evening I've been trying to submit a Super Mario Odyssey Any% PB to the board multiple times but it never seems to actually get submitted as it doesn't show up in my runs awaiting verification and it doesn't seem to get accepted either (the mods there are super fast). I've tried a different browser, clearing my cache, and it still is not working. I seem to be the only one experiencing this issue as other people still seem to be able to submit their runs. What could be the cause of this and what can I do to fix this?
Hey there, I've recently been looking into speedrunning this game and I've noticed there are no clear rules established as to how to time your run (when to start/end timing). Is there anything agreed on or if I would be the first to submit a run, would I just decide how to time it?
My suggestion for the timings would be:
- start timing when selecting level 1-1 from the level menu in the save file
- end timing when delivering the final hit to Ozai in level 4-3

Update to this: I strongly believe that with the absolute perfect run, although just barely, one could get a sub 1:35. There are a few spots where you can save the necessary time (notably the OoB trick in Level 4, if you can pull it off absolutely perfect, you can save about .25 seconds compared to my PB if my gold split was not wrongly timed). Like I said though, it would require a completely flawless run. But I think it is a possibility.
