Hi there!
I thought it would be useful to have a thread where we can post and discuss new strats and glitches.
To start things off: This is a video of a new strat I found which saves about 10 seconds:
Feel free to ask if something is unclear in the video.
HalfHeartGames has found a new glitch: If you are killed as you go backwards through a door, you are taken to the next room. http://bit.ly/2yvrx6u (link to comment)
This even works if the exit door requires a key.
And just as I was about to go to bed OpieOP
I've tested and confirmed this myself. This is something the community will need to agree to, but I submit that this breaks the game to the extent that a separate category is merited. Make it any% and make the current any% "any% no death glitch" or something. (Warpless can remain as is, as these are, in fact death "warps").
Do you find that reasonable?
(Hopefully this goes without saying, but this has nothing to do with me "losing record." That record should already have been beaten, tee bee aitch :P This would be my opinion no matter my current leaderboard position)
I agree that this glitch breaks the game more than any of the stuff we currently do in any% so a new category is fine for me. I would propose the name "any% no death warp" for the current any%.
Also, I think I know how this death warp works: You enter level B and want to go back to level A. The game knows that it has to put hue at the second door of level A so it saves "level" as "B" and "door" as "2". But now hue dies before he has gone back to level A and the game respawns him in level B. The game looks up where to place hue and sees that "door" is "2" so it places him at the second door in level B. This way we have successfully skipped all of level B.
I second that we allow this to create a new category, but my only question is to how it would affect 100%. I'm literally the only person to run it and this COMPLETELY breaks the way you'd have to do it and my time can be cut down even further now and that's something that I like. I just want to know if a new 100% category would have to be created, but I feel like there should only be 2 100% category's and that should be 100% Anything goes and 100% Warpless.
I think 100% should allow this. (I also have every intention of running 100% myself)
I do think 100% should allow the warps. I would honestly think that if 100% didn't allow the warps, it shouldn't allow the map warps as well (I can also make that a separate category as well. I'll probably throw it in under miscellaneous).
On further examination, the death warps aren't possible in enough rooms to necessitate a second category. Plus, disallowing them in warpless (as they are indeed warps) helps differentiate that run from normal any%. I think we essentially achieved consensus on this during my stream today, but I'm happy to have any%, warpless, and the hundo as the categories. I'm not terribly excited about a warpless hundo, but if people want it, then it's fine.
Found an interesting one that utilizes the "softlock" when you exit Hue's house twice:
Essentially, pressing up on the control stick twice as you exit Hue's house will enter you into a limbo state (you can't move and the screen is dark). While the game is trying to transition you outside, press Start (you can buffer these button presses) to open the pause menu and Restart Level. This will spawn you at the lighthouse. Grab the light blue piece.
Then, walk up and enter the lighthouse. NOW warp to town on the map. This prevents a "softlock" of your pause button from happening.
This saves literally about 1-2 seconds (timed from beginning of game to first door entered after miner).
I guess these wouldn't be softlocks, but I can't come up with a different name for them.
Small one, switching to red after the third upstairs door saves a few seconds
I guess we're using this thread as an archive. Small one for warpless (any% skips this room altogether)
