You can also avoid meming too hard, because then no-one will like you.
I do enjoy watching GDQs, but I only watch a few hours a day at most and generally participate in a fun chat while doing so, which keeps it enjoyable for me.
Could series links be handled the same way user links were handled? i.e. http://www.speedrun.com/series/...
@ROMaster2: The problem is that RTS games are generally not entertaining runs to watch for people who have never seen it before.
Could you make portals in the hub? That'd make it a lot easier to design.
Are you planning on making this for beginners or more experienced runners?
I'm not going to read through this entire thread, so I'll just answer each one myself.
- Different versions: You can select what console you're running on in every game on the website. You don't really need to create a new category for it, you can already see it. It won't show up on your profile as a WR, but you can say "I have the WR for <game> on <console>" and no-one will argue with you.
- Version-specific skips: Here's where I agree with you, if there are version-specific skips then categories or sub-categories should be added. However, if there isn't much interest on some consoles, I can understand why they only have 1 category for all of them.
- Modded PCs: I believe this has already been addressed. All PCs are different, and because of this, if the run doesn't factor out load times then it'll never be accurate anyway. With consoles, there may be a few different versions of each console, but there are a lot less of them.
Different communities will think different things. Just ask around.
Which can't be proven to be taken at the time of the WR without staff, and staff cost money and would need to fly all over the world to check. Not only that, but competitive sports have their results sent to labs, which also costs more money. Also, there isn't a speedrun authority.
imo it's not really different to any other game/series. Some people request games and don't mod them properly, it happens all the time. That's why this thread exists: http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7
The admins have limited time so background checks are out of the question, it'd take way too much time.
Contact an admin (probably kirkq or Lighnator) on Twitch or Twitter and they should be able to help you.
I mean, you could look at in in several ways. I donated because this is a great website and I wanted to help out a little, and I think that's for most people.
That thread would've been posted before the notification update, you might be able to get a response if you post a new thread.
GameGlitchGuy: Contact the mods of the game (through the forums, Twitch, Twitter, etc.).
