Very nice! I'd like to go into details about your strategies hole-by-hole, but I think it'd be a bit too much, especially for your first submission :) . Besides hole 12 being a bummer it was a VERY solid run especially for under 100 tries. You seem to have good understanding of the physics. I'm intrigued by your strategies on hole 3 and 16 and if they save any time over my way. My only bit of advice though is you seem to like angling you chip shots to the side, and then using the magic of telekenesis to maneuver the ball into the hole. This is a very safe and probably easier strategy but it could lose up to 5 seconds per hole compared to just hitting it straight in. Anyways hope to see more runs out of you in the future!

Yes. That's my opinion anyways and the 2 runs in the category agree with me. (btw if you retime g0go's run it's technically faster than mine). But no where in the cat rules does it say you have to. The rules seem to imply that 100% entails max upgrades with the demon beast being a good metric to end the timer on. Idk, opinions anyone?

where do you get 8 seconds from? i can see maybe 2 on the bridge, 3 with the outer castle skip, and maybe another second or 2 with optimizations

if the world is 255x255 aren't the odds more like 1/64? (surface area divided by border in blocks)

pineapple cup could be a category extension honestly unless speedrun.com forces you to have 2 separate games. I've ran this game the most and it has a pretty high skill ceiling actually. I'd definitely give it a run if you haven't yet. If you want I can work on a leaderboard for the other game too

unless we can find a consistent way to time then yeah. the dinogames version ends instantly while CMG has a few second wait. not only that but enemy AI is slightly different

Hey SquidGuardian and anyone else reading!

I like the guide and will be using it next time I feel like running. My plan is to discuss starts and refine the guide.

1. formatting. Your guide was comprehensible but maybe space things out like this post to make easier to read

2. 1-5 strat. I've been experimenting with a strategy: beat level 1 and 2, stall level 3 for money, afford shotgun before level 4, afford level 1 shotgun before level 5 (no other upgrades). I have a very low success rate with this ~5% but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I've been finishing level 5 at about 2:20 on the dinogames version. Maybe you can try on CMG and tell me if its any faster.

3. laser? Is laser worth it even for the last level?

4. armor? at what points should we buy armor? other upgrades?

Hope other people jump in with strats they've been experimenting with and we can get this time as low as possible!

New tidbits!

just tried a whole run of NewGame+ and got a 4:10 with a gold on every single level. (1:12 improvement; not recorded)

Other differences I noticed:

1. camera lock. The camera stays locked for a few seconds at the beginning of each level and this seems to be 2-3 seconds shorter

2. AI again. Holy shit these guys are fucking cracked up they drift goddamn circles around you at the speed of fuckin light you cant keep track of them what the hellllll

3 AI again again. The rocket tanks in particular suck at aiming (compared to CMG) along with the rest of them

4 level select. Selecting levels is instant compared to the about half-second delay in CMG

There is no way these 2 games can be compared against each other. I think separate categories is kind of pointless unless speazy comes in. Unless someone really advocates for CMG I'm gonna be switching to dinogames. was nice knowing you buddy

you should see the detail i put in an 11 year old flash game...

i played the first level on the dinogames version and noticed a lot of things fundamentally different

1. the menu. Not a huge deal but you don't need to click a separate tab to buy guns unlike CMG

2. level complete. As you said the levels finish faster and assuming 2 seconds, gives a 30 second advantage over CMG

3. The performance. Im not sure the amount by I got at least 60fps. Depending on your computer, this increase in performance may save time. (I'm just assuming that CMG runs slower)

4. The AI. I played level 1 once, and I had to kill 4 tanks before level complete vs the 2 i usually kill. The AI on the tanks was also a lot more active. The enemies started charging as soon as they had line of sight rather than waiting. Could this make up for the 30 seconds?

5. standalone app (.swf file). The fact that it is an app instead of a browser makes it so that you cant click off the edge. I couldn't but if someone can find the coolmathgames .swf link/file that would be amazing. This reason shouldn't really be considered though.

These are just my observations and why I think that it is different enough from CMG where it should either be not included, separate, or creating a standard where you can only play on CMG vise versa.

Side note: Another game I play called chibi knight has a similar issue. One version runs faster but has a lengthier boss fight. I seem to be the only one to get that version working though so I just use the one that everyone else does. those versions aren't separate.

i feel as long as coolmath games continues to support it flashpoint shouldn't be allowed. If there is more demand for this game maybe we can have separate categories. I couldn't find a good .swf link for the game but that would be another option too

most of the strategies are something you really have to learn on your own. I could in-depth explain to you the bridge patterns and things like how many hits an enemy takes to dies with what sword, but you would understand them better if you discovered yourself.

S buffering is pretty easy. 99% of the time you're only gonna use it for the canyon beast. you just press s right before you get attacked. If you accidentally press it too early you can usually try again right after and conserve the combo.

The combo: we are still on canyon beast here. You may have noticed that xp gains increase exponentially with combo. So in any% you want to s buffer so that you dont lose the combo. Glitchless you just leave at about 100xp and fight him a second time.

when you leave to go to the bridge, it's about 1.5 seconds faster to jump in the pit as opposed to from the bird. The animation will slow you down.

level 3 sword is almost needed for island beast. You want to have so that you don't level up during the fight. getting the level up screen also skips a little 2 second wait to grab the key also saving time.

The castle warp is explained better in other forums along with everything else I didn't mention here.

I might post a comprehensive guide if I feel like it with just about everything you could possibly need
