My apologies for the double post, but I just want to clarify: of course I have every intention of submitting a run with no reset mistakes or deaths. Naturally, a run like that would be beneficial to my overall time. So if my previous runs need to be removed due to failed strats, (which includes my coop run with thegrogster) then so be it. I'm certainly not content with my best times having such novice mistakes in them.

I suppose I'm confused as to why that would be rejected. Yes, the reset wasn't tactical, but it was clearly intended to be tactical, I'm just still learning strats and clearly fucked that one up. As a result, I lost a huge amount of time.

I'm just trying to follow the logic of rejecting runs due to things that LOSE time. Again, if that run needs to be removed, by all means, I will respect that decision. I just wish I understood it. It's not like I benefitted at all from that mistake.

@Hoobie, for 3-2, is there any reason you can't remove everything from her inventory at the beginning of the chapter, and then simply replace it once the chapter is complete?

I don't think dying should restrict a run. In fact, if you could save time by dying intentionally at a certain point during the game, that should also be allowed. Many games use dying as a strategy in Any%.

However! Menuing between resets seems to be a sticking point, so how about this...

Tactical resets only. (as previously defined to despawn enemies, move you or your partner closer to the next objective, or really anything that actually SAVES TIME, and not just to manipulate the IGT) Deaths allowed. (in fact, if you can find a way to intentionally die that actually SAVES TIME and doesn't just manipulate the IGT, go for it! And share the strat, please!) Off-IGT Menuing between Chapters ONLY (This means no one can touch their inventory during ANY reset in the run, death, tactical or otherwise. Need first aid-sprays? Better grab 'em before you start 4-1.)

Just an idea! What do you guys think?

Snow, with all due respect, you sound incredibly salty about this, but I haven't heard you explain why you think dying should be grounds for rejecting a run. Your decision not to submit a run was your decision, and an intentional non-tactical reset isn't even the same thing as non-intentional death. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe the rule for non-tactical resets was put in place because you can manipulate the IGT with repeated resets, correct? If that's obviously not what's happening, (especially with a death, which can only result in lost time) where is the problem? I understand that rules are rules, but I'd argue a "death" and a "reset" are not the same thing at all. The rules do not state that you can't die.

Again, you have far more experience running this game than I do, so if I'm missing something, please let me know. I just don't understand your frustration here.

I died like 3 times on my last run. Is that a disqualification? My IGT picked up where it left off, at least on livesplit, which is the time I submit. I can't see how a death HELPS a run, but I understand if it's against the rules, even if I don't understand the rule.

What in the actual fuck is happening in here?

When you show up to a foot race and the course is marked out with cones, you don't get to argue with the organizers to customize the route to your preference. They also won't make an entirely separate race just because you don't like what they have planned out. If you don't like the route or the rules of the race, you don't get to participate. Security would have had you removed by now, actually. You can run all you want, but you'd be banned from that particular race.

The mods here are the race organizers, in case that analogy is too confusing. They make the rules. If you don't like them, go run somewhere else.

Well, that explains why I never had a problem with that fight before. I played this game mostly on Xbox 360, and then a considerably less powerful computer than my current setup.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I knew my aim was subpar, but even with that, on Amateur, I remember it being hard NOT to kill him in two cycles.

Hoobie, the 120fps part confuses me. Is there a specific reason I should limit my FPS to 60? (PLEASE don't say I have to limit to 30)

Another question!

I grinded the SHIT out of this game closer to it's release. (loved collecting cash and upgrading stuff) I can't recall how many times I forced my way through 3-1, and yet, I can't remember once ever having to three cycle the Ogre playing solo. However, my last two runs, that's exactly what happened. As you can imagine, this loses minutes.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'd REALLY like to consistently avoid a three cycle Orge. 1 cycle would be great, but I'm guessing that's pretty much impossible to do solo, correct?

Can anyone watch my shooting at the growth on that giant asshole's back in my run to let me know how I'm dealing so little damage?

http://www.speedrun.com/run/7z0gn8ey (starts at about 30min)

Thanks!

Ah! It's all coming together now. Thanks!

I'm certain I had more questions, but I can't think of them now. I'll do another run, and that'll probably refresh my memory.

Thanks again.

Alberta, Canadamackmcd8 years ago

I'm using a controller, but never confirmed which control type I'm using. I'll look into that.

Next question! I notice you and Trance especially almost always run with grenade equipped. I'm guessing it's faster, despite not appearing faster at all. Does it make a significant difference, or should I only worry about this once I'm shaving seconds off my time?

Alberta, Canadamackmcd8 years ago

I suppose once I hit "post", I have already started it, so the first stupid question is in the title of this thread!

My second, (and sadly, unlikely to be my last) is about what I believe is called "corner aiming". I notice nearly everyone using aim to turn 90 or 180 degrees very rapidly, yet I can't seem to dial in how exactly this is done. I thought it might be simply looking to one direction in advance of rapidly tapping aim once, but I'm not getting the "snap" that I see in many runs.

As I said, I'm sure this is a stupid question, but would anyone be willing to let me know what I'm missing?

Cheers!
