Once again I never said I was allowing you to post the run on the leaderboard. And if you interpreted my mostly negative posts about the subject then I'm very sorry. But again, you can just run the game and have fun without having it on leaderboards! Hell, we used to not have board for 90% of the speedgames out there before SR.com was a thing; and speedrunning was still very much alive!
The problem with having emu runs as hidden on the leaderboard is that they have no reason to be on the leaderboard if they just save 1h30 or something. It just makes no sense. The time difference is just incredible. And yes, emulation saves a bajillion time, it's incredibly obvious if you compare loading times. I've done enough runs to know that a sub 1 hour is straight up impossible on chapter 1 with the strat I use, which is already super light in the stuff to do. Hell, I can see it dropping to 1:02, and with your strats I know you used to have good times with a 1:06. And you get a 59, 57 and 54 minutes in 3 consecutive runs? That is how I determinated you can save 10 minutes every hour. Which, on a 8-9 hours run, end up looking like 1h30 or so. Now obviously that's extrapolation, but you get the point: the timesave is crazy big.
Now again, speedrunning isn't just about leaderboards. In the current scope that it is in, it is somehow a big deal, but the main reason for it to exist is to compare people's time, and you need accuracy for that. And once again you can run games without video proof/on emulator/pause the timer, and comeback/Just not submit your runs cuz you don't care/All of the above/ and be speedrunning a game! it just doesn't fit the information a leaderboard carry and care about.
Now if in like 10 years the emulator is pretty damn stable and like only save 5-10 minutes if you do a run, I would start heavily thinking about it and probably come with a positive response. I still wouldn't like the idea but the arguments would surely be more balanced
As the quetion was raised in the discord and we have had some submissions of emulator runs, I'd like to make a post about it to clarify it.
As we mentioned before in discord, both mods for the game, me and Ghoul sees it as pretty negative and unproductive to allow Emulator runs on the leaderboard, even on a misc new leaderboard.
Even if it is a nice category to run and play if you have the means to, it is in the end just the same run as the Wii U version but with incredibly smaller loadings. So then what would be the point of running the official version, now that it is slower and with smaller QoL? The only thing for it would be it's the official version, and that would make emu runs more attractive than console, whichis not the objective when it comes to having a time in a game. Knowing how to go faster in an official version of the game is.
The inconsistency of Wii U emulation makes comparison between 2 runners pretty much impossible as well. Have one person with a smaller setup than the second runner and suddenly it's impossible to compare just because of performance issues. and we have seen how Emu is just so much faster; your run is faster by 7 minutes (and latest attempt faster by 10 minutes.) Provided that timesave stays the same, and it doesn't since there's more loading screens later on, that makes at least 1h30 of time difference. And what about newer versions of the emulator, that makes emulation more accurate to the console? Suddenly we are facing a record that is objectively impossible to beat, considering the amount of timesave (that is really just artificial timesave, again) that was done on a worse version. Now sure you could stay on a less accurate version, but then what's the limit? Find the most inconsistent emulator to save more artificial time? How do you make a leaderboard of that mess?
Now obviously the problem is software inconsistency we can't control on a leaderboard unless we start making BS rules. And why is that? Ultimatly a leaderboard is to compare runs. That is all. I am not denying the quality of the run, but denying the interest it has to make a leaderboard for it.
TL;DR: Emulation is not allowed on the leaderboards for this game as it is too inconsistent. But reminder that you can always do runs without submitting them to leaderboards.
Yes this is known! Ocarina Glitch is what allow you to walk on water. Getting picked up by the bird allow to not softlock just like any non white transition when rolling and interracting with stuff. Also makes ennemies active instead of inactive and you can get hit.
When going to ToD, you also don't have to replay the Ocarina to not softlock if you are picked up by the bird.
The potential save for 100% is interesting. I wonder if it works with the current route.
EDIT: yeha know I dumb it can't work since you cancel OG that way rip
Considering it is a category that wouldn't finish the game and would be a joke, the answer wouldd probably be negative for leaderboards.
That said, nothing prevents you from doing it either way. You don't have to have a category in leaderboard to speedrun silly things :)
The same question was raised on discord yesterday or 2 days ago so I'll answer with quo's message:
Quo Last Monday at 5:57 PM So we've actually been talking in the mod channel about it for a little, the biggest advantage it gives is on saving, since it's quite a few seconds faster each save, which adds up a lot over the entire run. We also got input from other GBA communities (mainly, kirby nidl, but also the gameboy discord) on their rulings for everdrive which mirrors what we found with faster saves
With Yajiji and Baffan we are taking a late flight from Paris and arrive at like midnight in Cophenaguen, so we will spend the night at the airport waiting for the train to Malmo. We will probably hang out in the BK during the night if anyone wants to meet up and arrive super late as well.
Someone better make a fusion explanation thingy cuz I never touched that game in my life.
Yeah same I tries and failed.
Though I found a way to with just saccing AA and APC I can take down an extra bomber and deviate the m tank to get killed by Max early making a bettwr way in with him. Still need to figure out how to play with tho I feel
Hey there, me again.
So during my attempts today someone pointed out something that I could do better on this map with Andy: Up until now I have been holding positions around the HQ, slowly taking out the huge ground armada that comes at you but Cyghfer told me that it's probably more effective to blockade the bridges.
I tried it a little and I think I see that being doable, though I don't really see how to do it very well. Anyone having an idea? on how to do that?
FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!
Only saves 3 seconds over Max's 6 turns, but hey I got it!
Also I'm keeping the playlist updated everytime I find something new/Better. I still have to put your 6 day Mission 1 in the playlist for example ^^ Most maps can still be beaten in one less day apparently but I haven't cracked that, probably cuz some just require to route instead of HQ capture which prob isn't faster (e.g 5 day vs 6 day Mission 1)
I actually finished "routing" everything. I have a 10-14 Days consistent Enigma and 9-15 days Final Battle (I still can't believe I got a 9 days with Max and Sami, that was pretty nuts) but since the missions are quite RNG by the end of the maps it's going to take me a while to make a vid for it.
Here's a playlist of my strats that I will keep on updating for reference: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5iVdh2ochMT33ZYP2qwh-9Eb499C7KCy
I don't have them on YT really, it's just .vbm that requires to be ran through VBA. I could highlight what I routed on stream or capture the movies and put them on YT if you would prefer.
Thanks for the info!
Is Wars World news still active nowadays?Itvery well could but after all these years and looking at the posts dates it doesn't seems like it.
I'll look into your vids and what you linked me, it really should help!
Mission 4 Max route even if takes less turn means you get an extra mission, and with the strats I'm using it costs 2 minute compared to Andy's route. Plus that mission, even if in 3 days, loses 40 seconds compared to 4 days Andy mission. So can't really go Max route anyway sadly.
I'm currently up to green earth mission and from what I'm seeing/have gathered so far, even if I didn't time them, the fastest missions would be A. max B. Andy (RTA at least) and C. Sami.
I made vids using VBA v24 rr of all my strats up until now if you are interested in looking at them. Also made route notes with step by step instructions as well.
Hey everyone!
So I've been trying to reroute the game glitchless since last week, and I got some pretty good result, saving a good chunk of time over the current Alistair's route.
Among other things, I came really close to getting Kanbei's Error (last mission against Kanbei) in 5 turns with Sami. Her T-copter has the range for it but everytime I try it gets destroyed on the way or the infantry gets killed before being able to reach the HQ.
So I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to clear it in 5 turns. I have a working 6 turns with Max but this map really would use to save a turn, as there's a bunch of ennemy units moving around.
PS: is there any discord to discuss about these games? Would probably be more efficient than SR.com forums.
I have a big enough english deck for some cool games of Star Realms, very good 2P deckbuilding. Main issue obv is the 2 player part.
I can bring 1 controller, console and disk.
The decision was actually positive on that matter, and visible still on the TMC discord. The changes have yet to be made on the leaderboards though.
Hey I'd be happy to be interviewed if you want to Dante :)
Just realised this forum existed >>
So here is the route that I've worked on, based on HeroMystic works and his inputs: https://pastebin.com/fCTMPHcN
Some things might get some slight changes. also at the bottom is listed all the weapons we get and their requirements.
TL;DR: the route uses Itsuki/Tsubasa/Ellie until Yashiro joins, where he is switched with Ellie, staying behind for Mass Destruction/Repels/Open Audition purpose. It skips using Touma entirely after chapter 2, as Itsuki is good enough to deal damage on Dark Yashiro, still uses Kiria for bosses to Lullaby/Labyrinth, and never uses Mamori. Also cuts out a lot of performa grind for weapons that are unnecessary.
I still feel like the route is improvable in a few places but at this point I'd need newer eyes. The Dark Yashiro fight especially is very wacky and I feel could be done better.
Yes for the exact same reason.
The worst part about FE7 is the route actually doesn't work the same way on the classic ROM as RNG advances differently on Chapter 19 and Dorcas appearing early changes position in the beginning of the run. Though there is a fix availabble in the resources, it's still not valid for our leaderboards, as it also runs faster than classic hardware.
