Brief comments:

1: Agree 2: Agree 3: It probably should be easy. I also tend to think we should look to move more towards "creating runs" and then submitting them to boards. I think this could eevntually allow users to track PBs differently than leaderboard times (e.g. you can have a time without a mod approving it). 4: Lightnat0r is working on some things heading in this direction.

I do not like hosting comment boards on other people's runs without sufficient user protection from harassment. I think I said in another thread it needs to be able to be opted out of and only available for users of the site's runs.

I like customization.

deetaj: Ok, it's a small board, multiple mods is better than one, and you have lots of runs. Thehealbus: Alright, have fun. bilakispa: Thanks for trying to message them, I added you.

I moved the two LEGO Batman games. Someone else handled MeowMix's request.

When conceptualizing these things, I had originally hoped that all the displayed categories would simply be combinations of filters. Some combination of half virtual and half non-virtual might be complex to implement at this point (or maybe not?).

We also had conceptualized what I'm going to for now call "discerning type variables", which would imply that two runs with different values are not directly comparable due to a time difference. I think having a type of variable to denote this would allow us to do other things with the interface to alleviate concerns.

Ideally all things should utilize the modularity, and intentionally bypassing modularity probably highlights an underlying functionality issue. Making it so something can't possibly be sorted by a variable, when a user might want to do that is not ideal.

Happened here as well, probably a site glitch.

By either writing their own rules describing the same way of playing the game, or by following the content agreement to use our site's user generated verbatim wording. This seems relatively straightforward.

Again, it's mostly to restrict against repackaging the whole site content, which currently lacks sufficient protection.

discussione: The Site
United Stateskirkq9 years ago

It's really not monopolizing the ruleset, it's restricting wholesale copying of user generated content. No one is advocating restricting the way of playing the game (it isn't really even possible or practical to do that), just protecting the text available through the API for the exact particular way it's described herein.

"Don't copy the rules verbatim without following our content restrictions" and "Don't play by the same rules" are two extremely different ideas.

Also I don't foresee anyone caring about rulesets or categories for a single game being copied under the system, it's mostly to restrict against repackaging the whole site content. If we really need official language to establish this, we can look into it.

Due to recent events, site staff has been discussing adding a content license to the site.

The content license would generally cover the user generated text content, along with content created on this site (This is just a generalization for now). All external images and video content shown within this site are the copyright of their respective owners.

The license brought up that looks to be most applicable to our situation is Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommerical 4.0 International

Please read: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0

Having a license on the data still allows the site to do the following: 1: speedrun.com reserves the right to change the licensing of the data at any point. 2: speedrun.com reserves the right to issue other specific licenses to certain sites at its discretion. (If a site has ads, it needs our permission, which would be granted in some cases.)

It is wholly necessary to add some sort of license at this point to clarify the current ambiguity and establish expectations. We acknowledge that we're adding a license later than preferable, and site staff can work to accommodate individual concerns.

Site staff wishes to allows individual users to retain a sensible level of personal use ability for their self-created content on the site. How exactly this is expressed in the terms is to be determined.

I am not a lawyer, and I am still learning about the nuances of this.

Question, comments, concerns?

More modular timer configuration is something we've wanted to add for a while, it just hasn't happened yet.

CreeperHntr: I just now promoted Zecora to supermod because the others are inactive, could you contact Zecora? LPGanon, TonixAmaya: I'll add you guys because you have runs, and the other moderator hadn't had much activity until now. Also, move any% out of misc categories. :P Mattmatt10111: I'll reattach it to the series for now, they can delegate it if they want. Churchstorm: Eh, he moderates a fair share games that haven't really been set up, so I'll add you since you play this one.

This is all news to me. Their intentions seem extremely ambiguous at the moment.

Seems like they took down some stuff. Either that or I can't navigate the site.

bilakispa: Could you try sending him a Twitch message as well and then get back to me? Ask if he can add you as a moderator. He seems reasonably active on there.

JeedUnit: I don't exactly consider it a huge mess. Suboptimal would be a fairer description. btrim mods a ton of Disney games just by consequence, I'm sure he doesn't have time to review all the runs of all the games the day they are submitted, but it seems like he handles them periodically, so it's probably good to have him around for many of the games. (Many of the games in that series are quite light on moderators.) Having a moderator who runs the game is generally good though, and this game seems a bit undermaintained, so I removed a couple inactive people and added you.

1: Themes are neither a requirement nor a contributor. 2: A plethora of games are missing timing guidelines/rules, just like this one is. It's a small factor.

I think it takes a while to propagate, but this may be a different issue.

I still think that skipping Fargo is necessary for a really good run. The gain at Guilty isn't huge. The Beigis gain is huge, the Mammon gain is relatively trivial in the scheme of things.

It's 4 whole minutes saved for some additional factors of risk.

Also I think the "Glitched" categories should feature all of the unglitched times. It's just any%, my run got beat by a new trick, but it's still any%. (Times can be added in two categories, though it has to be added as a new run.) If the category was called "glitched", then it shouldn't have other runs. The category should be called any%.

Also this is prime usage for a category variable. "Uses OoB/SD yes/no" would fix all of this and make the board look much better.

I think the general agreement is that few people recognize region flags. It doesn't provide discernible visual information to a large percentage of users.

I live in the US, I don't recognize most US state flags. Much less can I discern other countries' regions. Even if your country does recognize its own region flags, the majority of the other countries with users on the site probably don't.

Jumpyluff: What do you need a series for exactly? After you answer that could you submit the request through the game request form?

silentjay630: Eh, I tend to agree, but I'd prefer to have some concurrence from the Batman series moderators. Also I'd be changing them from 4 moderators to 1 moderator, which probably doesn't help run approval time. If you wanna talk to those guys and see if they care and/or are still interested in moderating it, I'd move it.

Miglekk: Since there's 4 runs in queue and moderator has been online apparently twice since then and that's the only thing he moderates and there's only one moderator, I'll add you. giantsteps92: Game has had no runs in 4 months since creation, so I'll remove him and add you. Mattmatt10111: Use the information available to you and let me know how ridiculous that claim looks to me.

Just as an update, Pac is away at ESA this week.

Maybe MASH's suggestion is best for now, have a period where we review and post a few articles, then delegate it to someone who stands out. We'll see what Pac thinks when he's back.

Could you request the series through the game request form, then I can add the games manually. http://www.speedrun.com/requestgame
