I could see how standardizing the trophies on the user page might be desirable to some, but custom user icons on their page doesn't seem that useful to me. I personally think it's fine the way it is, but I wouldn't be opposed to a method similar to the "Override custom themes" user setting.

Beurt460: Category requests should go through the individual game's moderators.

SuperSqank: I added you and reconnected the game to the series so the moderator there can help as well.

Wuschelpinguin: The general guideline we've often gone by for adding people to inactive games is around 3 weeks of no moderator logging in for smaller games. If a bit more time goes by and he continues to be uncontactable and not log in, we'll consider adding you.

It would open up a lot of questions. I'll comment on this in some detail for the sake of discussion, but I don't think we should make policy changes without substantial discussion and/or consensus. Since we don't have a detailed list of rules (which is a suboptimal circumstance itself), most of the site policy has been set by precedent which drives the expectations of the users, and major changes to this would need communicated and/or documented in detail.

In order for the proposed "user must have run" game request policy to have real effect, it would pretty much imply that you need video proof of your run, otherwise it encourages people to lie about having a time. Assuming that, if a user runs an obscure game with no video and wants to post a time, they have no way to do that. It also encourages doing a single playthrough for the sake of meeting a criteria for having a time, or lying that a youtube account is yours to make it look like you have a time.

I would point out that generally any time a user is terribly inactive and/or the board has no runs, we've most often allowed other users to have the board. Though now, the site has been around long enough that it's now easier to look at someone's profile and get a gauge of how involved they are with the site, but we still get a lot of new users requesting games. There are also some active users that moderate obscure boards they don't have runs in because they take interest in the game.

It's a difference between the current adding more games and having to make changes later and the proposed adding less games and making less changes later.

Electra13x7777: General site policy is to discuss it with the moderators first. The moderators aren't inactive per the ~3 week login specified in the beginning of the thread.

Awesomeness: Per the first post in the thread, moderator requests should generally go through the current moderators. Moderators generally do not add everyone that plays the game, otherwise Super Mario Maker would have 50+ moderators.

caleb_gl: Since the board has no runs and the user is inactive, I removed him and added you.

I want full moderator logs associated with each game (accessible only to moderators and staff) at some point, which I think more directly addresses the issue. This work isn't slated any time soon though.

Whichever seems fun to you. Any% Normal, any% Master, 101% Normal, and 101% Master seem to offer the most variance. It also depends whether you prefer skipping the long encounters or playing all encounters.

Any% Normal: Minimalist. 100% Normal: Somewhat minimalist then cleanup most extra content at end-game. 101% Normal: Slower early game.

Any% Hard: Get everything on the way, skip 3 battles. 100% Hard: Get everything on the way, skip 3 battles until the end. (Very similar to Any% Hard) 101% Hard: Harder early game.

Any% Master: Get everything on the way, skip 3 battles. Die a lot. 100% Master: Get everything on the way, skip 3 battles until the end. Die a lot. 101% Master: I hope you enjoy dying in Spider Cave.

Hard mode makes some enemies move slightly differently. Enemies shoot more and different types of bullets. Master mode then speeds up battles by 33% including your character, enemies, the intro and outro, and enemies deal double damage. In all difficulties, enemies have the same health and you deal the same amount of damage.

The final door in Normal requires 60 hearts. Collecting all the chest hearts is certainly fastest.

The final door in Hard/Master requires 75 hearts, which is all but 3 hearts up to that point. There are various doors in the run that require all but a couple hearts, so it's probably fastest to clear things as you pass them. Unfortunately this makes any% very similar to 100%.

I recommend getting the chocolate box extra power for the final boss on Hard/Master but not Normal.

100% does not require keys. 101% requires you open no chests prior to opening the Jealous Chest in Moon Town. On all difficulties this allows skipping exactly one battle.

Regen may be useful in Master 101%, but it's probably worthless in all other difficulties.

If you hold right on the difficulty selection screen for 5 seconds you unlock a pointless difficulty that just kills you every battle.

Vyreck: Added.

Svenne: I'm assuming you're referring to SMB2U. It looks like 2 of the other games in all stars have opted to do the same, but I don't know the circumstances. Could you have a couple other people in the community post here for consensus?

Cyberdemon531/Deln: Yeah, generally handhelds and console should most probably be separate games. If I create the new game can you move the runs over? There's not really a hard rule on the divisions between consoles, but if it looks the same and has the same content (Like many GC/PS2/Xbox games or XboxOne/Ps4), it has often been under 1 game.

VideoGameRoulette: It's not a requirement that moderators verify runs every time they visit the site. Feel free to leave a message on the game forum as well, as many people get site notifications when new threads are started there.

Even with archiving it's probably not ideal IMO.

Site policy pretty much goes as far as "We'll let you have a forum to discuss your event." It shouldn't be considered sanctioning or endorsing, and perhaps a disclaimer should explicitly state this. The large majority of the events we've listed don't have enough information to be certain of the intentions, and that's the unfortunate nature of small charity marathons in general.

I do wish the marathons were less prominent on the forums listing for this reason.

It was stated who is running it, and the FAQ even specifically calls out your concern. I don't see how this can be construed as "not mentioned"

It's not like you're obligated to continue visiting the site, but we do need somewhat active moderators for games or runs don't get added in a reasonable amount of time. People come and go, so it's probably good to have more than one moderator for a game if they're available. Numerous games have inactive moderators, so I wouldn't take it personally.

HlgNagato: Added because you have serious runs in other games. I should've looked into this a bit more.

Tohloo: It was added for another moderator like 3 days ago and he hasn't logged in since. By discretion, I'll add you as well.

MCMic: Okay, way inactive.

JessicaSix: Opening a new board would be the same as requesting a new game. I created it here: http://www.speedrun.com/final_doom_psx

LuizMiguel: Okay, since you mod on the other site.

JessicaSix: I don't recall the request. Generally if someone requests a game that already exists and doesn't add a note about what version is being requested, I can't really determine. So based on the information here, it would suggest that the PSX version is substantially different enough to warrant a separate board. Basically if you specifically don't want to moderate, I can't really add the board unless the series moderators want to moderate it. I hope that all makes sense. If you request it again through the game form and want to moderate it, we can add it. If you don't want to do that then you'll have to talk to the series moderators.

MarioManTAW: You could make a Twitch account to PM him. People don't necessarily read the game forums every day.

Cyberdemon531: I was looking to discuss Halo with the community, and I perceived that having users moderating the entire series would become a major issue further down the line. I opted to move the moderators into the games they run and dissolve series moderation, like we've done with numerous popular series. The only thing this effectively changes is that game requests have to go through the game request form, and you can't change the series picture. Per this linked thread series moderator inheritance is going to be removed soon anyway, and the current series moderators will be assigned into the games they have power in one time at that point in time: http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/cv9x2

Toy Story Stuff: If it would help to separate N64, Dreamcast, PC, and PS# into different games, that's probably an option. Seems like it's somewhat sorted out for now.

Epitaphios: The moderator is active on the site, moderates numerous games without issue, and runs another game in the series. It's so much easier to submit a run first and then have a conversation via PM or the game forum. Unfortunately users often make claims to try to get moderator, so it's much better if there's clear evidence that you've run the game prior to the discussion.
