I thought some change was made recently pertaining to moderating and following, but based on these posts maybe that change wasn't what I thought it was. I'm pretty sure I've generally agreed with setting the defaults to be that moderators get notifications for threads. I'd even agree with a one time resetting of all user's defaults for that setting. I don't really want to force people to be stuck with that default though if they really don't want the notifications though.
Mostly agree with first post. Tracking emulators used modularly would certainly be useful and desirable, but it's some amount of work to implement. Does the site track an emulator list and the game chooses from it, or does the game add arbitrary emulator names?
I think a page of recommended and/or banned emulators should be created. It's pretty much consensus that VBA for GB/GBC games is bad, and PJ64 2.0 is bad. I can't personally make a complete list without some user contribution, since for example I have no idea what consensus is for Playstation emulators these days.
SpeedRunsLive page says the following:
You may not use the following emulators for racing: SNES - ZSNES, snes9x 1.4x N64 - Project64 2.x GB/GBC - VBA, VBA-M GBA - VBA-M (use VBA instead. If VBA does not support your GBA game, please contact an op.)
It's not particularly thorough for the amount of consoles out there, but it addresses the most egregious and common cases.
I wrote a script to brute force Charabom battles a while back: ( http://pastebin.com/qMGpPB4J ) It's coded specific to Andlar and Pteradon, but could easily be generalized. The results are at the end of the post. The charabom fights in the gba bomberman appear to follow the same mechanics.
RPGodfather: In your latest run, you chose the wrong action order for the Pteradon battle. I believe all combinations of attack patterns in my run are optimal both for theoretically fastest and most chance of winning fights and mashability, so I'd recommend referencing those. You need level 17 andlar for 51 HP and then some combination of attack and special meeting the requirements at the end of the post. Also, are you playing on gamecube, white wii, or black wii? I'm just curious on the details, I've never tested black wii for this game.
Also check this out, dunno if anything there is useful:
The rest of this post is a copy paste of a PM I wrote to sio-kedelic a while back. sio-kedelic and I were disputing the viability of one particular potion, I tend to think he was correct, but my post below not reflect this. In my route listed here, the one lightening card out of the way in the glacier level and the associated stats can be traded out for a different lightening card and other stats.
Route: 1-1, 3-1, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4, 3-2, 2-5, 2-6, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 1-6, 3-3, 3-4, 3-5, 3-6.
I intend to finish 3-2 without pommy. It saves about 20 seconds or so and I think the glitch can be done somewhat reliably if you pay close attention to where the guy is when laying the bombs.
Expected time saved with this route: 20 seconds from finishing 3-2 without pommy. (Calculated pretty accurately.) 15 seconds from better stat routing. (I calculated this one pretty heavily.) Hopefully 10+ seconds between 1-2 and 3-1 by not collecting stats in 1-2 and also having pommy in 1-2. (This is kind of a guess at the moment. I know the beginning cycle is set, but the later ones are hard to predict.)
I can probably compare the total times of our 1-2 and 3-1 and see who comes out ahead. I have to account for the fact that you opted to grab the potions in 1-2 and 3-1 obviously.
I can say for certain that even if I did go to 1-2 after 1-1, I would not get the potion. The potion in 3-1 that requires water bombs is only 2 seconds faster than some of the stats I am getting. The only real benefit possible would be getting stats in 1-2 instead of 3-1. I think it would be slower though. I spend about 11 seconds collecting stats in 3-1. I'm fairly confident that using pommy in 1-2 and having speed will save more than that.
My Stegodon fight has a 1/3 chance of ending on turn 2 and otherwise ends on turn 4. My Kai-Man fight usually ends on turn 4 or 5, but it can rarely take until turn 7 if I recall correctly.
I'll still time 1-2 completed with pommy and compare all of the relevant information. It only modifies my route slightly.
You'll note also that I don't get the extra speed in 1-1. I think it is slower.
I did a rough test of speed values for speed stats 1-6.
1: 10 (Getting a pair of boots would save 1s every 6s.) 2: 12 (Getting a pair of boots would save 1s every 7s.) 3: 14 (Getting a pair of boots would save 1s every 8s.) 4: 16 (Getting a pair of boots would save 1s every 9s.) 5: 18 (Getting a pair of boots would save 1s every 10s.) 6: 20
Second column is either time for powerup or type of Charabom stat. X is random stat or no stat. N is "don't get that last stat."

Moveset: Skillfully, Get Wild!, Other
The script suggests I use Skillfully first. It is because the Round 2 attacks that cause me to lose give less possibility for certain moves to be chosen in certain places Round 1. Because of the move choices, he actually has a very low chance of defending first two turns in a row (2/30), so it makes sense to special first on turn 1 and it actually gains wins in the 64/120 battles. In the 68/120 battles I don't think it matters what is chosen first. Get Wild! is the obvious second round choice, and some fights need the extra attack to kill.
ANDLAR STATS: Atk, Spec Atk, Probability of winning out of 120. //22 18 = 56 //19,19 = 68 //18,20 = 68 ///17,20 = 64 //16,20 = 64 //17,21 = 68 //13,21 = 64 //16,22 = 68 //12,22 = 64 //15,23 = 68

Token: I think this should die down a bit now hopefully.
Skaleks: Just rephrasing generally for the sake of clarity: "User created the board, decided 4 months later user wanted to remove other user who has been a super for 4 months" I don't think this change really fits in with site precedent right now. You both run the game, but you happened to request it first. Requesting first is somewhat arbitrary. It appears you're relatively okay with him being a regular mod, so this just seems like more of an "I'm in charge" perception thing. Also, all the other mods self deleted for whatever reason, which I'm not currently aware of. You don't have to post twice, these requests get responded to in order.
Ozotuh: I'm not totally opposed to this idea for some boards, however I don't think this can work for all boards.
AndersonFerreira: I won't always bulk add to a bunch of games, but in this case I will. I added AlfredoSalza as well after seeing his post since he has a run.
GoonMiester: If one of the other mods wants to request this change, I can make the change.
Killer249: It looks like you were added.
SpectreXS: Sort it out on the game's board, then the change can be requested here after community consensus. One person giving a list of mod changes is never going to work.
WeaponLord: Category requests go through current game moderators.
Cappan1: It looks like you were added. Inactivity is generally considered at around 3 weeks.
Scypher: I commented on the other thread. I don't know the details of the game. The game was just added recently.
AlfredoSalza: Added you after seeing your post. Saw Anderson's post first and had already added him, so I think it makes sense to not retroact that.
Jumpyluff: Ok.
I think I got all the posts? Sorry if I missed one.
Racingmonster: Most forums don't delete old posts. It's sort of a historic record of site stuff. In the case of that one specific thread, maybe an argument could be made to clear out old posts.
WeaponLord: Generally we want to add boards without runs. We don't add boards to get people to run games, we add boards when people run games.
xHaviiHx: I like the idea.
Tarbash: Front page needs some overhaul eventually. It's better than it used to be, but still needs some work.
Rottdawg: I personally dislike about 90% of the themes on the site, so another admin would probably be better off speaking towards that.
I read all of these posts and don't always respond; sometimes the topics are better off spoken towards by the other admins.
Impressivepigeon390: It's way easier to just rename your account. You essentially keep the same account and runs get renamed. Post if you want me to do that. I can delete the other account.
KuriGoat: See the post 6 posts above your post. There's a site bug preventing me from changing only certain people's names.
GamerWarrior2016: If you keep creating all of these pointless accounts, I'm going to start banning them instead of just deleting them.
Could you give an example of a game currently doing this for reference?
The pages aren't really built to put multiple boards on one page. Having ILs always be at the bottom would look strange in games with hundreds of runs. ( http://www.speedrun.com/sm64 ) Maybe the tabs on the left leave some things to be desired, such as having both expanded upon opening the page. One future plan is to look to allow multiple "full game" and "IL" boards per game.
A subcategory mostly prevents a variable from appearing in the same table as another. The general thought being "Easy" vs "Hard" isn't really a direct comparison. It creates separation without creating another category.
Statistics has the actual board added date: http://www.speedrun.com/Dino_Run_DX/gamestats
WhoIsThisKid: Mirror's Edge games have moderators. While the series does only have one, I'm sure some of the current game moderators could help out if there was an inherent need for more people. Most moderators on the site aren't looking to add moderators that don't have runs of the games.
CriscoWild: At a basic level: Set up the categories and rules in a sensible manner and approve runs in an objective manner. Other user's posts give more detail.
Nemz38: The game has 6 moderators, please discuss it with them as they have the ability to add you. (I think you're able to add (or maybe submit?) guides just by having a run of the game. I'm actually not 100% sure how it's set up.)
NeverSeenIt: It looks like your original post was deleted, can't exactly respond.
Shade667: Site staff generally doesn't process runs for games. Generic guideline for moderator inactivity is ~3 weeks. Please note, you can have multiple runs submitted at the same time.
NightmareGameZ: I don't see any runs by you for the games, so it seems a bit out of place.
therealbmanbeast: Looks like it was added. Feel free to discuss being added as a mod with the current moderator.
Token: Thanks.
YW1: Almost missed the question. Small game, you have a run, it's relatively inactive, ok.
Raidenthequick: Added, removed the user since he was inactive a year.
KuriGoat: Bleh, "Failed to rename theme folder" bug. I can't change your name right now because of the bug.
Other guy: "Why the heck is my account still not deleted?" - Because admins have IRL obligations as well.
Personal opinion, essentially along the same lines of things I've said in the past.
I'm somewhat against "locked redirect boards"; it's never been authorized by the site so to speak, but we haven't historically been taking them down when people opt to do it. It's certainly in an ambiguous state. I dislike the notion that "people can't submit runs on this site because someone else said they can't" I personally tend to think the more long term solution is some sort of API based synchronization with external sites, but that task hasn't been prioritized. The current situation is somewhat of a no win situation without a decent alternative such as API based synchronization.
YW1: Generally speaking, 21 days of not logging onto the site or potentially 21 days of not verifying a run, or something like that. Not every situation can work exactly the same, life is subjective.
Token: Since I can actually see audit logs now: The user hasn't really done anything with that board, and the board seems active enough, so this change is fine in my opinion.
therealbmanbeast: 3 weeks inactivity is the guideline.
AntoninZeKing: In most cases I'd look for a pending run, but this case seems fine.
TransparentBlue: Post was edited to say the run was approved, no response needed seemingly.
Racingmonster: I've never heard of a 21+ video game lol. I deleted it since it was made empty.
Garadas: I don't see anything wrong with the board except not having a game image and a couple runs without versions specified. In my opinion, that's not all that bad in comparison to some boards. Still seems pretty functional.
Molotok: In general I'd suggest getting a run up and talking to the current moderators. If you have level runs, it would help your argument to post them here rather than just saying you have them.
PANICOREPT: Seems like bad communication of the rules, or perhaps bad rules. I can't tell which is the problem. I messaged one of the super mods on Twitch, or maybe he'll see your post. There is some merit to everyone playing with specific settings, as for what the most standard settings are, I personally wouldn't know.
CriscoWild: Way inactive, ok.
Racingmonster: By the way, I have no idea what happened to the series you mentioned in the game request form. I don't recall touching anything. I find it hard to believe that you of all people could have left it idle for 2 weeks, so not sure.
I can't find this game from your link or the search bar. It's not a bug, we intentionally don't let mods attach to random games right now, so site staff has to handle it. Ideally you would be able to attach to a game if you mod it. (However, the specific part of that action of assigning the parent game is actually broken last I checked.)
AdamLikesCars: I added mods.
Dracula013: It looks like moderators were added.
lordofultima: I bumped the active runner up to a super mod. Requests should generally go through the current moderators.
AntoninZeKing: I added mods.
YW1: Please discuss it with the current moderator, they are active.
0_yami_0: Bumped you up to super. It looks like Uhtrance removed himself.
Anderson_Ferreira: There's still the bug with underscores in the URLs. Me changing your name doesn't magically fix that.
You can't modify game pages unless you're a moderator for that game. You also can't submit runs for other people right now unless you're a moderator.
Moderator requests should go through current moderators, and new game requests go here: http://www.speedrun.com/requestgame
