Southpaw018: Sent a question to someone to verify who you are. Do you have a Twitter or Twitch or something?

StarOfDoom: Ok

Walnucto: A user with that name exists and they have a run.

cooopercrisp: I'll do what you asked, but please read my post here: http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/9kj6k/1#wjfat If everyone starts doing this for every game, it's going to get out of hand. (Also attaching parent games is still broken.)

Frikkinfriks14: It has been my opinion since site inception that we shouldn't track non-video game type stuff. This was allowed to be added by another site staff member who either was doing it in haste or not realizing the extent of precedent here. I would really rather the site not track stuff like this unless it becomes concisely defined in scope and implementation such that it doesn't impact the rest of the site with clutter. I'm discussing this with site staff. It's not your fault or anything, just a fault of the site process.

Comments should be implemented through the site and should only be available for runs by users who would have the option to disable/delete them. I don't want comments on runs until all of that sentence is true.

A better name for these would probably be "category extensions". If moderators want to change it to that feel free, or we might make this change overall to better standardize things.

My opinion of this is that it's fine specifically for highly popular games as temporary solution to a current shortcoming of the site. I think the ideal situation would be that the site lets you have "multiple full game and IL boards" per board, such that there can be multiple tracked boards within a board. That's the issue creating most of the desire for separate tracking. My hope has been to get the functionality to merge these back eventually. I've explicitly mentioned this to at least a couple people who have created these boards, but not all of them.

This problem also comes up for games with substantially different modes within games that aren't trackable by similar variables. One example that comes to mind is a separate game mode in Resident Evil: Revelations: http://www.speedrun.com/rev2raid http://www.speedrun.com/rev2raid

I'm removing TheErgkjr from mod for now because self removing yourself 4 months ago, brooding on an issue, then making the executive decision that you're in charge of the board, flaming the other mod, and going to make all the decisions isn't how the site works. If users want to generate consensus on how the board should look in forum threads, feel free. This current course of action is not constructive at all or going to lead to any decent consensus. There aren't actually any posts here agreeing with your course of action at all right now, other than the mod that added you as a mod. How is that a consensus? Issues solved: 0 Issues created: 1

pr0te: Added, bumped Purple up to super.

MrUltimateVideos: Looks like you were added.

SonicNinja: Added

infinitemystery: Added to one since the board was empty, looks like they added you to the other.

GhostScit: Added.

randomphoenix03: Removed after a brief review of circumstances.

Rubberduckyassassin3: Forwarded this one to the rest of staff to get some consensus. We'll see where that goes.

JoshKeys: I'll add you to the specific game for now. As for series moderation, I'd recommend posting on the appropriate game/series forums.

Tron_Javolta: I super modded the other mod.

Weekenders: I don't really have anything to add to the discussion. People moderate boards in their free time, and if you don't want to help without being given moderator, I guess it will take them some time.

PeterAfro: Use the game's forums for that request. The user is active and runs another game in the series. If runs are being approved there's not an inherent need for more moderators.

Scypher: Added.

WeaponLord:

"How about changing the name X-men Series to X-men/Marvel Series"

  • Since one is a subset of the other, it probably makes more sense to have just a Marvel series. A list of games that qualify would be helpful. Example: Everything in series A, series B, and games X,Y,Z.

alexdsw3: I marked it is a rom hack. Marking parent games is still broken. :(

I think I addressed all of the above. Game types are only selectable by full mod and up to prevent people from doing stupid things with them.

Flutterparty: I added the other series moderator to the game. This may fix the issue.

CookieEXE: It looks like it was verified.

Skaleks: I'll make this change in this specific case since the runs have been pending a while and I generally advocate games having a few moderators anyway. This is like the third "The thing in my last post is horrible" follow up post you've made in this thread.

Marrow: Ok

Extodasher: Since that's mostly true, and you've been approving runs, I'll add you in this case.

soupG: It looks like you were added to both.

scaz.zaf: Added.

Cyanid_: I'd recommend asking on the forums for the game. Most users get notifications for this.

Chafinhog: Added. Posting twice does nothing.

abney317: Seems like this was sorted out.

kingmarsh13: One of the mods self-removed, I made a slight change.

Glenday: The game has numerous moderators, discuss it with them.

Pottary: Added.

gcah2006: I made some changes.

TheGons: Looks like you were added.

WeaponLord: I made a couple changes.

Dman2527: You joined the site 3 days ago and submitted the runs yesterday. People have lives. This thread gives 3 weeks as a guideline for inactivity.

TheIntercom: I just made a couple changes for now. If someone who runs a couple games wants super mod on all the games, they can ask here. I'd probably want the other series mod's concurrence before I added you to everything since you only seem to run one game.

Gave2haze: Added molluskmoth: I'll make the change this time since he hasn't been active with the game or the moderation (of which the moderation aspect wasn't totally true last time you asked). SLCRG: Since your run has been pending a long time, I'll add you. SoakedSock: Ok JakatoXtra: Ok GhostScit: Ok

I'm at AGDQ all week, I'll be back next Monday or so. The others can handle these requests if necessary.

AntiGravityMaster: Clean up the meme crap in the Undertale series page. I deleted two of the game covers for being meme garbage. The multi game thing you created shouldn't be a game for a couple reasons. 1: There are too many fangames being created all the time by fans, so it's not well constrained, 2: We shouldn't name games after users. At best it should be "Multiple Undertale Games", but since there's only one game and a bunch of fan games, I'd argue it's not well defined enough to even be worth existing. (The site should have better guidelines, but just because you moderate a series board doesn't mean you get to fill it with whatever crap you want.)

Konasumi: If it makes sense for the English title to do one name followed by the second in parentheses, this is fine. Most titles should consist of English characters. (I forget the words to describe Japanese names written in English characters, but those are fine if it helps to clarify the game name.) Automating this from the site perspective sounds painful, since it's not always going to be English and Japanese that are the languages. The language specific names are primarily intended to be for users of a specific language. (Admittedly that functionality is limited currently.) My post could probably be worded more clearly...

We really should have guidelines for this. What you're suggesting sounds reasonable enough. (My preferences has themes shut off because I got tired of seeing all the crap.)

I have no idea what I'm being accused of and/or asked to do since the post is gone. It's entirely possible I misremembered something while going through 100 game requests of which probably 40 are poorly formatted, missing information, linking to Let's Plays, etc. We can't really go back and review denied requests without digging into the database, so it's mostly just what I remember. ¤shrug¤

One of the previous moderators got at least temp banned for shitting up discord and being a general nuisance to other users. I don't know all the details. If he wants to sort that out with site staff he is welcome to.

One of his buddies decided it would be a good idea to add the previous moderator's ban evading account as a moderator, so I removed him as well. These users seem to also like adding their friends who don't run the games, so those people were all removed as well. The site keeps logs of all of this.

One user does run the games and hasn't caused any issues yet that I've seen, but he's certainly not in with a great crowd, lol

RastaBobby: It looks like you were added.

unfitgrammar: Discuss it on the game's forums for now. There are already threads for category discussion.

Kenanelite123: Since there is an active mod, he can probably handle requests like this. We sometimes clean up inactive mods after a while, but the more important thing is that active mods are available. Forum threads for the game are also a good place to start.

Hu3y524: Need a run or pending run, or a link to a run in a category that needs added or something like that.

gallamaster: ok

Lileya-Celestie: Removed them since it seems to make sense.

FiliVig: Added

Ozotuh: I added you to a bunch of stuff. Unsure if every game in that series should have series moderators or if some of them should be left independent as they were.

Sm_Izumi: ok

NME: Added

Alfygator: Since the user has been inactive a month and you already have an approved run, and now one pending, I think this is fine.

I think subcategories help make this a little clearer, though I'm not thoroughly knowledgeable on the exact details of how the site calculates placings. A variable is a loose distinction and a subcategory is a more rigid. Moving the placings to be on a per variable basis likely creates a lot of "first places" for runs meeting only very specific conditions. Maybe there's some improvement to be had here, but I'm not sure it's as simple as saying "separate consoles and variables" Alternate display modes may make sense, but I'm not sure if it's more helpful or confusing.

discussione: The Site
United Stateskirkq8 years ago

Along with this, there are some limitations that you can only select one variable or all, and not arbitrary combinations. I'd also like the ability to "unlock subcategory restrictions" so it's easy to get an overview of some of the boards with heavier subcategory restrictions. It's not as good as it could be, certainly.
