I have seen this too. I know mathguy86 has gotten it, IIRC he knows how.
300K with level 0 start would be tedious, but go for it.
As for maxouts, hard to do a speedrun category for that really. Usually when going for a maxout, you aren't trying to go for speed, rather making sure you are getting tetrises and such.
That said I have no problem with either. I just don't think anyone is maxing out on GB anytime soon :D
I'm all for teamwork. Anything we can all do to strengthen the community is good in my eyes.
Yeah I use GBP but select GBA, although my reasoning is that as I understand, the GBP uses the exact same hardware as a GBA. As for changing the name, I don't care either way :D
I'm still gonna treat BT as the Father Mod here, or we can discuss as a team. I am usually open to anything as long as it's something everyone is cool with.
I'm not sure if that can be added as a requirement, but a lot of times people will put their emulator in the run notes.
I don't see why not, but at the same time, it could be tough to hold the Game Boy steady as you play, resulting in poor quality. The former 100 line WR on NES Tetris (now 3rd place) has a webcam pointed at a TV, but it's stationary and you can clearly see the game the whole time. That's the only thing I could think of as being an issue.
I would moderate as well if BT wanted to add me, but I don't feel comfortable verifying my own runs. I do, however, check this site almost every day.
Yeah I think a few runners already use SNES controllers, even on NES, with an adapter.
I wouldn't mind seeing this, but as others said, it's kind of redundant since the glitches are minor. I think a lot of people learn the run without using glitches and then eventually learn to do them, then incorporate them into their runs.
That being said, if the category was there, someone would run it. It's not like we don't have categories on there with very few times already. :)
Yo this is still very valid/relevant. Bots suck.
:D
I wouldn't mind a category like that, although it would most likely not be a speedrun, more of a "how far can you go" run. Unless there was a score goal or line goal to work towards, of course.
I'm gonna let KeynNaka take care of this since I rarely even run this game anymore, but it's good to see some runners! I hope to see some runs soon!
Only took 4 weeks for that WR to get approved Kappa ;P
What type of category were you thinking?
When is the proper time to stop timer? After final piece is locked in or after the line completely disappears and 100+ lines is shown?
Oh man, I'll definitely be watching that. And I'm stoked that this game got into SGDQ! Let's get some pub!
Sounds good guys, I like that method anyways. I'll be starting on button press to select casual and ending on fade to white after Umbra text. Thanks!
I am going to finally start doing runs and I was wondering if a consensus was reached on the timing start and stop for this category. I used to start when I clicked "casual" and end on fade to black after final boss. I then was told start time for any% was fade to black after hitting "casual" and end time was after fade to white after final boss text boxes. I think WR is timed from "casual" to the final blow on the boss.
Just wanna be consistent!
Well, no one seems to care. I'm going to run the category with a friend for fun anyways. We'll see if it catches on. Already did about 4 runs and it's very entertaining.
For reference, I am doing 2 player with a friend over XBL, All Chapters (including DLC!) on Hard. Any characters, not a new save, in between chapter menus are part of the timing. I'll probably stream some attempts soon-ish.
Hi! I used to play this game a LOT when it was new, and still sometimes do. I was interested in maybe speedrunning it. The problem is, this game was really made to be a multiplayer game and I'd love to see a category where co-op is allowed. 2p would be fine, but the game allows up to 6 (which could get ridiculous).
I'd like to see a category where this is possible and we can play on Hard without having to use a new save. Also, the DLC levels are much harder and cooler IMO, and it would be nice to see those added. For now, just for fun, I am going to run with a partner just doing all levels co-op any character. We'll see how it goes.
