Unfortunately, the community doesn't allow emulated runs of it on the leaderboard but it's great for practicing! And the community is always down to help.
I'm not sure if you're interested as you said retro-like games, but I can tell you that Shadow of the Colossus uses unintended strats and tricks for all but just a few colossi. It isn't retro but it's a boss rush game full of tricks like AI manipulation, physics abuse. It does have certain routing to complete the tricks in most cases and it does require precision so I'm not sure if that goes against your wishes.
Either way, I hope you find a game you love playing!
the Time Attack timers from Shadow of the Colossus are great, but unless you're running IL's instead of the NTA category you don't use them :/
Limbo is a nice game to speedrun for new runners, but you should just choose whatever game you enjoy!
Is that really a speedrun though? I don't have anything against it being on any game's board or anything, I'm just curious lol
It's definitely someone who has submitted a run within a certain period of time. How long the time is, I'm not sure.
Can you provide proof of the conversation between you and Punchy? I'm not sure if you should post it here but if you could at least provide it to an Admin it might help your case. @Buju
Hey, welcome! I see your run got approved so that's awesome. Good luck in your future runs and it's nice to have such a cheery person on the site haha
Welcome to the community! Most of us here feel the same way. We just like to play our favorite games and play them to the best of our abilities. Great to have you and good luck with your runs!
Hello fellow Ohioan sadboi. Welcome to the site, good luck with your runs!
Suggestions as in game suggestions or general advice? As far as general advice goes, I would say that you should complete a run as soon as you learn enough speed strats. That gives you a great base to improve on and you'll have a pretty easy goal to beat. Don't be like me and reset time after time because you messed up a little bit before completing a run haha.
I've generated 3 questions to ask yourself when deciding on a game. If you can answer no to any of them, you might not enjoy the game:
- Does the category use speed strats you don't think you'd enjoy? (perfect pause glitches, menu navigation, glitching, etc.)
- Is it a game you can see playing the first section of over and over again for many, many hours without getting bored/angry?
- Is the length of the category around the general length you would want in a speedrun?
I think those are the most important to answer and I wouldn't put as much weight onto if you used to play the game as a kid or not.
Yea my first and only speedrun is around 50 minutes for me on a good day. I think it's all just preference. I don't really see a benefit in starting off with fast games. I would recommend just picking a game you love that would take an amount of time you want to run. For me, 45 mins to around almost 2 hours would be ideal.
I kind of hope it's a different category personally, but that's for another topic haha. I would definitely recommend the ps3 version as most people run that one.
I always get nervous during certain parts of the Shadow of the Colossus speedrun. Certain things that seem routine and easy, but for some reason still make me uneasy about attempting, especially because of the loss of time you can have from them.
