So, you've probably heard of me beating the WR on easy. Well technically that's not true. The whole thing was just a joke to lure out my friend Endy. Well, yes, i got a 7:09.69, but not in the "ordinary way". What does it mean? Thx to the work of huhtikuu (rot_ta) and tarbash i was able to add some new strats to my runs that could potentially save up to 5-6 seconds. Unfortunately, those strats need a second controller. If you press UP on the second controller you can wrap when climbing vines. So you just enter the vine screen, drop down while pressing UP on the second controller, reappear on the top of the screen and complete the climb. This has many applications:
- Amazon 2nd screen
- Amazon climb after the secret chest before the boss
- Himalaya boulder climb
- Final climb after Dracula Fight (if you do it with the TASbat the timesave is huge). This is the best run i got so far (i'm a little rusty):
The whole disappearing VOD, mysterious tweet, etc..was just meant to be a joke to have fun with you guys. Of course i knew this could have never been a legitimate WR.
And no it wasn't just a thing to lure people into my stream, like i said many times i don't care about getting partner, etc. I just like to play games fast for fun. That's it.
So, what's the point of this? My proposal is creating a totally new category. If we follow other examples (Zelda 1, Chip N Dale 2, Battletoads, TMNT4, etc..) the 1p2c runs would become the new any% and the current any% would become something like any% 1 controller, or something like that. What do you think guys?
So here are some of the quick kills i found: Weasel:
Clock Tower 1 (good pattern):
Clock Tower 2 (bad pattern):
Robo Fat Cat:
Yes this is allowed, nothing wrong with it. That may be useful in many boss fights, i gotta try that.
And no it's not necessary to stream attempts live. But if someone comes out of nowhere with a WR, very very good RNG, no sound and claims a wr in two hours of attempts, we demand a proof call. That's it. Nothing personal.
Once the runner is proved to be legit, there's nothing wrong with offline attempts. Some of my recent WRs were done offline. Kirby himself has one offline PB.
I think he means the actual leaderboards for each platform. On PC endy got a 7:11 iirc, or a 7:15, something like that. With AC timing, which is different.
Although it's an interesting challenge run, it wouldn't make sense in a speedrun contest. You can request a ducktales category extension if you want.
So the clip kinda works in the same way you clip in All Stars 1-1 with mario, right? Nice find!
Did you know (i guess so) that if you jump from the top of the whale spray in 4-2 you get a free double jump? I wonder if that can be useful elsewhere than Luigi Only
i know it's an old topic, but VirtuaNES is usually rejected. It's not accurate at all.
After talking with the community and the other mods, we figured out there's no reason to time the All Stars version differently, so from now on the timer stops when you enter the door after defeating wart (you lose control as soon as you press up and the transition to black starts). I will adjust all the times.
Thx everyone!
Ok i will just drop the idea of having the SNES versions separated. The idea just came out because there were other cases of leaderboards separations (e.g. Maniac Mansion). I will just leave the things as they are and talk to jeff about the cork idea. Tnx guys for your response!
they actually exist, i've found out there is a category extension board for SMB2. With those category you mentioned.
yeah, they wanted to leave the all stars leaderboard for multi games only..
Hey ILM, can't wait to see you improve warpless. Anyway some folks in the SMB1 forum thought it could be a good idea to have a single leaderboard for every SNES game (such as SMB2 SNES only with all the categories). This could maybe be a decent compromise.
Also, i think the timing thing can be set to "when the screen completely turns black". Because SNES version has a transition that makes it a little more difficult than NES. I'll see what i can do this week and try to get in touch with Jeff.
Hmm..that's also an interesting idea. Anyway, nothing is decided of course, we're just discussing with the different communities.
Well the first thing i can do is converting the all stars time to the NES ones.
Considering that they're not identical, because if they were identical there wouldn't be an "except for..", i wasn't trying to separate the communities, and tbh i don't think that would separate the community, i was only trying to put the SNES versions in their actual leaderboard (which now is only used for multi game categories).
About moving all the runs over, it's a thing i can do as a content mod, but of course, if the community is ok. I'm not doing anything the community is not ok with.
The SMB1 community doesn't like at all the idea of having the All Stars run under the All Stars board. So i guess the idea n°4 should be put on hold for now. Let's focus on the other two things.
