It's funny how the hardcore "Official hardware" crew turns a blind eye to modding a system with an unofficial piece of hardware. When and where will the hair splitting end? lol. Please... Also, a mod chip can do a lot more than region lock.
Raichu, if you bothered reading the part where Carci explained that his mod chip skipped instructions while loading rooms, leading to faster than usual loading times, it's literally the definition of cheating. Did you even read that? If you're here to shit post, get lost.
And correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't use of a mod chip cheating? If it is, and WRs and top 3 runs are using them, doesn't that completely destroy the integrity of these leaderboards in the first place?
This is why PS console speedrunning, or any disk fed system for that matter is a bit of a mess to moderate. So many combinations of models, driver versions, mod chips... <--- which to my knowledge is universally taboo in speedrunning with no possible way to detect if one is being used. Testing all combinations and doing this kind of research is very expensive and time consuming, all to try and understand the best way to moderate a platform almost nobody runs, or ever will run again. I understand some people are purists and prefer to run on official hardware. In 2020, most of us don't care about that anymore. Seems to me that all of our problems and stress, also occasional drama, comes from console runs. It's almost completely phased out now and is way less of a balanced playing field for most players. It's come to the point that moderating console on these boards is not even worth it to us anymore. We'll be discussing how we want to deal with this mess and get back to the community when we've made a decision.
The new route has us doing Richard glitch, then going down stairs and coming back up the stairs near chemical pick up. I used to wait almost 30 seconds after doing gas room to re-enter Richard so this is a better use of that time, then you can go straight to crow room from the hall after Yawn. It's already been roughly tested and clearly saves time but still not sure if Barry skip is necessary to save that time with this route.
IF you're seeing biosoft and biohard, you're using the old patch. Try what If_And_While said and switch to the REbirth patch. It's a lot simpler to setup and a more stable patch with better features.
This is a known glitch called Barry Skip. If you open the menu or the options menu on a particular frame, Barry will stand in place and not walk to the proper position to trigger the cutscene. Since RE1's cutscenes are based on characters being at certain coordinates, the scene can not play. You said he was positioned near the door on the right. This is another frame where the glitch can occur but is not the frame we usually use. I accidentally stumbled upon this later frame for the glitch about 4 years ago and still have a recording of it to this day. Usually, he will be standing next to the clock. Like deagle said, it is used for glitched runs. It used to not be necessary for optimal times for glitched but I've recently changed the glitched route for PC to where the skip is necessary for optimal times on PC. The theory is, opening the menu or options menu on these 2 frames stops Barry from spawning and stops him in place. You would normally be able to beat Barry to the blood but he is clearly respawned ahead to ensure he gets there first. We believe he is respawned at 2 different point off screen and if these respawns are interrupted by a menu, it breaks the respawning process.
You just choose your platform when you submit it. Only PC runs have been submitted so far but all of the same platforms are accepted like our other leaderboards.
This guide should work fine ^^^ IMPORTANT - run everything as administrator. RE2 REbirth patch isn't allowed for RE2 runs since it locks the game at the wrong frame rate so don't use it for speedrunning.
I don't believe they use the glitch in their runs if I remember correctly. I just recorded the optimal method using a knife. There is a way to do it with bazooka too but it's more difficult. I'll figure that out next and post. Here is the optimal knife method. Make sure you slash down with the knife. That makes it much easier to clip in. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Gez2RpXYHWM1e2N2nXhzua2jZT0ocKW9
I believe there is a faster method than that. It's been a while but I'll revisit it and get more up to date info on it.
Bio 1 is known to crash if you load another program while it is open. Run everything as administrator. Open Livesplit and anything else you need before you load the game. The game shouldn't crash if you don't load anything else once it is open.
Ah, didn't know that. Thanks deagle. RE1 SRT doesn't really help much anyway.
There is but the SRT for Bio 1 is a bit rough. Not sure where to get it since I've never used it before but it's out there.
Thought it would be a good idea to warn everyone about RE1 in general. Either patch you use, remember Bio1 is not a perfectly stable game, even with patching. We can not guarantee either patch to perform as intended at all times. Runs will still be rejected upon any abnormality we see unfit for verification. This will be the first time REbirth has been played publicly by active RE1 speedrunners and we don't know what might happen on other people's PCs. The most important thing is to preserve the legitimacy and accuracy of the runs on our boards. We appologize ahead of time if any rejections occur based on inaccuracy, bugs, dropped video, or any form of abnormal gameplay.
Great job man. Was a fun one to watch. There's a few things I have questions about lol. Cool stuff!
Yes that is fine since the IGT pauses during the skippable scenes.
After much testing, we feel this patch is now ready for speedruns. If you had any issues with the old 1.7 and 1.8 patches, this one might just solve your problems. It's easy to setup and has a ton of improvements to the game's compatibility, performance, and functions. Be sure to thank GeminiLoboto for all his great work. He has a Patreon if you'd like to support him as well. If you experience any problems with this patch, please report them to GeminiLoboto and the mods as soon as you can. This patch and a setup guide can be downloaded from our resources page

Happy speedruns to all!
Oh, and remember to enable your input display in the emulator.
Glad you got Bizhawk to work. PSXJIN is faster on the loading times. We only allow these 2 emulators because all PSX emulators are trash so the fastest one was picked. Bizhawk was added later just because a lot of people have issues with PSXJIN. Highly recommend running the PC version eventually.
