Iirc Crazy4Blades was thinking of making a guide a long while ago, like the one we have for Biz, but I don't think it was ever released. And now there have been talks of including it in the rando launcher to make it a bit more user-friendly.
For keyboard bindings, I use this: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/inputdev/virtual-key-codes; if you want, I can DM you my config on Discord so you can see what it looks like.
And yes, they've been tested and newer versions may still cause the game to crash, hence why we recommend the build from July of 2024.
I haven't personally tested them, no, and thanks for reminding me lol
With that being said, playing on newer versions is not recommended because they seem to have issues with the background music. There's a weird crash/bug where the song keeps playing on loop but the game freezes. Probably unrelated, but this also happened with some terrible PSX emu I used to play on before I discovered Jin and Biz (PSXfin I think was the name).
Builds up to July/August of last year seemed to work fine.
The deadline has been extended for an extra month it seems: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/video-on-demand?language=en_US
Hello everyone,
Due to Twitch's recent notice about highlights potentially being deleted in the near future due to "storage limit", we would like to ask everyone (mainly those with Twitch highlights as PBs) to check if your runs on speedrun.com are at risk of being deleted. If they are, we kindly request you to upload said PBs to YouTube or any other platform where it will be safe. If you CBA, please confirm you give us permission to rip the video and upload it to a different platform so as to keep the runs up with the sole purpose of preservation. The deadline Twitch has given is the 19th of April.
Thank you,
The mod team
Hello all,
After much consideration and research, we the mod team think the best for the competitive future of SotN speedruns is to move forward and accept the Canary branch of the Xenia Xbox360 emulator. For now, we will only be adding this platform to the Alucard Any% category and, depending on how things go from here on, we may add the rest of the categories.
During the time we spent researching how the game behaves, we found out it's a pretty accurate emulation of the PAL version of the game. This means it runs exactly at 60 fps, as opposed to the NTSC version, which is slightly slower at 59.94 (there were suspicions about this happening on original hardware too, but this has helped as confirmation). Due to this slight difference which translates to considerably big time fluctuations between platforms, from now on, all NTSC will be adjusted to match the frame rate of the PAL version for fairness in competition. For instance, in Any%, the difference PAL would make over NTSC is about a second and a half. In categories which take longer to complete, this could be as much as 3 to 4 seconds, which is definitely a time measure that could decide not only world records, but also lower placements on the leaderboards.
As far as loading times are concerned, testing reflected that loading times are consistent with those of original hardware, plus/minus one to four frames in some areas. We are aware that some sound issues exist, such as the absence of music and "crunchy" sound effects, but for now it seems it's not something that can be fixed and since the main game is run without music to improve performance, there is no issue with this. Regarding further research, we have not tested any Richter categories (the character shouldn't make any difference, but we can't be too careful) nor do we have any accurate information on how the game behaves (fps, load times, etc.) on Xbox One in case we need to make any adjustments on these platforms as well, so any help is welcome.
IMPORTANT: the version of Xenia we are allowing is the Canary branch, not default Xenia, which was found out to run at 61 fps, a frame rate far too inaccurate to be allowed. Visit https://github.com/xenia-canary/xenia-canary/releases for more info. As updates come up on GitHub, we will need to test whether they affect frame rates or loading times, so any version up to the date of this post (2024/11/20) is allowed, as they seem to be accurate and consistent in performance. As for future releases, as mentioned, they will be tested.
Kind regards,
The mod team
El interés de dos o tres personas no es suficiente para crear una nueva categoría. Para este tipo de runs está la extensión de categorías: https://www.speedrun.com/sotnce
In spite of being a very respectable emu for casual play, the reason it's not allowed on the leaderboards is very similar to why other emulators have been rejected, namely shorter load times, and less lag in certain areas as opposed to Bizhawk or Mednafen.
Unfortunately, there isn't enough interest in speedrunning this version to add Android to the main leaderboards (it would probably be only you on it). You could try asking on the category extensions, which is where most of the lesser known/puzzle-y speedruns are: https://www.speedrun.com/sotnce
you're very welcome to come up with any categories you want to see and to speedrun the game however you'd like to
as far as I know, the only categories that are tracked for the mobile version of the game are Richter Any% and All Bosses, which belongs to the category extensions for lesser-known or less popular runs of the game (https://www.speedrun.com/sotnce#Richter) if you want to run Glitchless Any%, you need to play the PSX or Xbox version of the game
I don't personally use a controller, so I have no say in that regard, but I found this from a quick google search:
< graph with mean input lag variation among controllers and connections
https://gamingsection.net/news/does-plugging-in-xbox-controller-reduce-input-lag/ < not sure if this is a reputable source, but it all points at wired being better than wireless, which makes sense
As for Death skip, keeping your equipment through a big toss requires you to start in Luck mode. This greatly reduces your stats and makes the rest of the run slower than it would normally be due to lower MP and stats together with all the menuing to unequip Alucard's gear and the fact that you would follow a different XP route. With this being said, if you play on Xbox, you should be able to get sub-8 clock rushes pretty consistently, so even if you did the big toss strat, you wouldn't save any time as you'd still be locked behind the statue waiting to move.
Yes, there are, and quite a few. I suggest you read this post for more info: https://www.speedrun.com/sotn/guide/4yliu You should also watch one or two Any% NSC runs side to side to get a feel of how different the versions are and how different skips are performed. For instance, Death skip is performed by backdashing out of the room where he steals your stuff instead of using the neutron bomb; there is no shop glitch, which means no dupe and infinite mana prisms; and the relic skip at the end of the room is different too as you don't need a heart refresh to cause the camera to shift you one screen length.
Seeing as there are very few active verifiers (i.e. Mouse and only Mouse) for this game and its ever growing player base, I think there is a shortage of verifiers for runs, some of which take a really long time to get on the leaderboards. This very issue has been brought up in The Long Library repeatedly, but to no avail. Several users who happen to be fairly knowledgeable about and experienced with the game, such as Diagon, MrRazzio and myself, have previously shown interest in becoming verifiers. Personally, I am still interested in this and MrRazzio is too, not sure about Diagon. Is there a chance that more people could be granted the role? Thanks in advance.
Edit: just in case, I'm not calling the current verifiers out or anything, I simply think there are too few and this shouldn't be something only one person should be burdened with.
