[quote] I haven't done a lot of Winx Club, I might drop it if I don't feel like running it soon. [/quote]
But I'm so hyped for Winx Club!
Edit: That BBcode really doesn't feel like working for me lately...
I know an updated leaderboard is being worked on and I already checked your teaser pic on Twitter. Since I don't have an account there, I figured I'd just make a thread about it here.
Regarding the new layout, I really only have one wish: Please don't make this a mobile site!
I use a PC 99.9% of the time for browsing the internet and it's very obvious to me when a site is clearly intended to be optimized for mobile and no one cares about PC. I'm sure you guys can make this layout in a way that it makes the site work better on mobile, but without sacrificing functionality for PC users. Thanks!
My two cents regarding PAL:
I think it wouldn't be a problem to just allow people to submit PAL times, as long as it is clearly stated in the rules that it is not possible to compete with it against NTSC. The benefit of this would be that PAL runners could also use this sites functionality to track their best times and compete against each other. Thanks to the region variable, you can display only a specific region with a single click.
My advice would be to be inclusive. This site offers various tools to organize a leaderboard for a game with different versions, so if the community decides that there needs to be a split, use these tools! In my opinion, a leaderboard should always be open for any official release of the game.
Just out of curiosity, are there any known version differences that affect in-game time?
No one loves Star Wars Racer :(
I'm actually surprised that my Mario Kart submission is still in, as I haven't gotten a PB in that category in a while. The reason for this is that my time is quite optimized for my skill level and I gave the points-category in Beetle Adventure Racing more priority (which makes sense, since I need the extra practice much more in the Beetle run). For Mario Kart, I was mostly practicing offline without streaming runs.
If anyone wonders why I don't stream much lately, that's due to all the school stuff that will keep me busy until July.
To prevent an empty game page, it would probably be best to wait until someone completed a multi-Gex run.
RTA would make sense and if we went with a "PS-only trilogy", there would be literally no setup time between games. Setup would only really start to matter, if you wanted to switch from PC Gex 1 to N64.
I would also suggest calling the new page itself something like "Multiple Gex games" or "Gex multi-game runs" instead of Trilogy, so we at least have the option to do something with the handheld stuff if we ever want to. But I would also be fine with just calling it Trilogy to have a cool name for the page :P
I got an idea regarding followed games and notification settings:
Currently, when you follow a game that's part of a series, you can get notifications about new forum threads or posts in its sub-forum. But since you can't follow a series of games, you can't get notifications about new threads in the general forum of that series. Because of that, discussions in the general forums easily get overlooked.
There would be two ways to improve this:
- Add the ability to follow a series
- Add an option also get notified about activity in the general forum of the series of a followed game
We were discussing this in the Discord, so I figured it would be a good idea to also have a thread for this here.
As you might know, this site allows people to submit multi-game-runs as a separate game. This would work well for Gex in my opinion, since the games are not terribly long and it would also not require people to switch between very different systems.
Here are a few categories we came up with:
- Gex Trilogy any%
- Gex Trilogy any% no WW¤
- Gex Trilogy 100%
¤ This would be identical to normal any% for Gex 1 and 2, but would ban Wrong Warps in Gex 3.
As for version differences, it would probably work fine to use the subcategories "N64" and "PS" to separate the runs for Gex 2 and 3. These subcategories would ignore Gex 1, since to my knowledge, there aren't real version differences in that game, aside from loading/lag, so people could just go with whatever version they want. I'm not an expert for Gex 1, though, so please correct me if I'm wrong!
Another approach for the PS-version of Trilogy runs would be to actually require people to play Gex 1 on PS, so the category would look less arbitrary and have an easy setup to switch games. In that case, we could call the N64 subcategory something like "any version" and have no restrictions for Gex 1.
Some more ideas:
- 3D Gex any% / 100%
- Handheld Gex any% / 100%
- All Gex games any% / 100%
What are your opinions about all of this? Discuss :)
I finally completed a decent run of Bonus Circuit, max points on N64. It still has many mistakes and I used save RTA strats, but that's how this category is. Just finishing a run of this is very hard. Please ignore my older, faster time on emu, that one is only faster because the game is broken on emu.
The reason I didn't get a new any% PB in Star Wars Racer yet is simple: RNG :P
I found a small timesaver in Rezopolis for 100%. I can't record anything on emu right now, so I'll try to describe it:
After the first "disco room", there is this big room that contains the hidden remote. I found that you can jump directly up to the hidden remote by luring a flying enemy towards you and using him as a platform. If done correctly, this saves around 5 seconds. To get the enemy's attention, you'll have to look at the corner in the distance where he spawns and keep him on camera long enough while he flies towards you.
Could it be that the list layout with the big box arts makes the pages load slower? In that case, you might want to let people choose a preferred layout in their settings.

If you have to donate a significant amount to get it, that's fine. But it should be the same for Twitch partners, because being popular on an external site doesn't automatically mean that you helped this site ;)
Being able to get the custom picture by donating is definitely something that should be done, I'm sure it would get more people to donate. Also, this isn't Twitch, so the partnered users on that site shouldn't get any privileges here.
If you feel the need to create a junk gamepage, does it really have to be this offensive? This is not something that should be tolerated in this community.
